SkyEurope Goes Into Bankruptcy Protection
This thread seems to be full of doom and gloom of recent!
To add further to that, it seems SkyEurope have filed for bankruptcy protection in the Slovak Republic (similar to the US Chapter 11 protection)...
Probably only a matter of time before the flights to LTN are stopped!
Also one of their 737's were seized in Paris the other day due to unpayed airport fees...
I can imagine one airlines (with a pink and purple livery) that would be happy to pick up their routes!

It seems the website for BWA (British West African) does not work any more. Does this mean that all has fallen though? Any rumours?

Hold on Giles, a bit too early me thinks of its demise. What the protection does, it gives it breathing space to find any potential investors and more importantly for the company anybody who is owed money cannot put the airline to liquidation and igves it time to reorganise (again), so we will just have to wait and see. Let us hope they do survive for a number of reasons most importaly for the employees.
compton and jetset - I beg to differ with your opinion on this.
The purpose of the reogranisation is to allow them to perform structural changes so that they are likely to be profitable in the long-term.
For large companies with powerful unions this might mean significantly renegotiating the agreements with the workforce - e.g. cutting salaries or benefits. For the network carriers and companies like General Motors in the USA, this meant significant concessions from various unions - pilots, cabin crew, machinists, the lot.
SkyEurope AFAIK doesn't have a particularly strong union, and because it's a relatively young company its pension and healthcare obligations to retired staff are not that large, so there's little from historical operations that can be cut.
Yes, bankruptcy might provide a way to walk away from previous debts. Yes, it gives some more time to go find investors (although Jason Bitter might find this a little difficult unless he offers the investors a very good deal). However, I'm struggling to see what big cost savings they can make so that they will be expected to turn a profit, compared to the substantial losses over the last few years.
The reorganisation plan that gets filed with the bankruptcy court is meant to be a credible way of turning a loss-making company into a profitable one - it's not simply a "We've run out of money, can we have some more please ?" option

From next year Ryanair passengers will be allowed to travel with as many hold luggage bags as they like, providing they carry them to and from the plane themselves. CEO Michael O’Leary said the budget airline would scrap the one-bag limit during 2010, but would also scrap bag check-ins. He also pledged to forge ahead with proposal to charge passengers to use onboard toilets.

I don't believe that story some how... can't see Ryanair wanting to lose out on a revenue stream (paying for checked in bags) and think of the situation the crew would face on board closing those overhead lockers. Delay central if they have to be tagged onboard and put into the hold!

Seems that FCC’s fleet of new Luton Parkway shuttle busses have gone to Wales only to be replaced with aged flexi busses from Eire.

What a mess - EMA - LTN about 01hr 20 today - Ibis Hill to Central 25 mins. What a nightmare this airport have created, traffic lights will make it worse. What a disaster for those using the airport and those working there who are penalised for being late for work and have a duty to perform. Its about time someone stepped in to stop this mess
Luton is a convenient airport for us, but all I ever read about is the nightmare traffic situation. We have a blue badge, it used to be very convenient for disabled long term parking when we went on holiday. it now seems preferable to use off site parking and be bussed in, letting their driver wrestle with the traffic changes.
Does anyone have a clue about traffic management at Luton Airport? It seems as if a party in a brewery would be beyond them!!
Come on!! Get it sorted, you are killing an airport that needs to work efficiently in order to attract customers, not drive (pun) them away!! Maybe the traffic planners should be made to use the airport approach roads themselves, they don't seem to understand traffic patterns at all.

The traffic congestion seems to affect the airport now only in the early mornings. I normally pass through the airport around 8 to 8:30 and the approach road is usually clear but not today. Today at 8:30 there was another queue from the Signature hangars as cars could not get past the queue of traffic that had come to a standstill on the hill from the A505.
Interestingly today there was a large mobile flashing sign that stated that the midterm car park could be used for free to drop off passengers. It seems to have had no impact on today’s congestion
