BMI Baby EDI

Keith_P

I believe the flight only stops for the summer peak season as the aircraft
does more Malaga's & Faro's. hey have dropped the last Monday Glasgow flight which always under-performed.

Last August I booked EDI one week in advance for four at £102 return all
in - need I say more other than coming back on the last inbound with about 65 pax (That was also during the Edinburgh Festival!)

I know the last BHX outbound always does well but the last inbound to BHX is very light-loaded at times.

Also Malaga operated 12 times a week from the end of May last year but due to the extra destinations this year (BGY, MAD, WAW) and no extra aircraft something had to give. Malaga took the hit to start with and then EDI/GLA in August.

Sorry cov man but the CAA stats show that CVT's 12 monthly figure for Sept 2006 to August 2007 was 620,000 pax.
The rolling 12 monthly stat up to end May 2008 shows pax numbers are down to 515,850.
I would imagine that with the 30% average monthly reduction in 2008 pax numbers at present, the 2008 total pax figure for cvt will be somewhere around 480,000 by December.
It's likely that the CVT management realised months ago what the end of year pax figures would show so they got the Planning Appeal brought forward in case someone pointed out to the Judge that passenger numbers had reduced so much in the last two years a new Terminal was no longer necessary.

baby lack of kit

looking at the delays/cancellation at both ema/bhx it seems to me that baby have got more routes than they have aircraft at the minute?

I know that at least 3 735 have gone but have they been replaced? just how many aircraft do they have now? confused

Baby

At the moment as I deal with ww on a daily basis. I can tell you the routes and a/c are at full capacity, however one a/c out at either of the four bases means a grim day all round I am affraid and as they are using 73 classics they seem to be prone to being sick often.

At the minute in Man they are using a bmi mainline a/c as there 2 new 733s are currently under going final checks an ex Air One a/c One which I beleive is in BUD and another is in Canada somewhere, ex Air Vanutu.

With a lot of airlines disposing of 733 a/c, maybe ww will get some more a/c. These could have been used in bhx and possible would have staved of some of the FR expansion. Maybe they could now increase capacity in Man and stave off any planned expansion by FR or U2.

Thanks BAZZA

From what your saying then baby got rid of 3 aircraft and have yet to replace them with any coming up to the peak flying season? i see the BFS-MAN/EMA/BHX sometimes end up on coaches or just cancelled and a few EDI/GLA have been cancelled, must be costing a fortune and p*****g off lots of baby punters. Looking at yesterday delays at BHX there must have been some sick aircraft, are they really that unreliable, there are companies with older 737 (Jet2) that don't seem to have the same delays almost every day

with regards to baby operating classic so called 'prone to major tech problems' aircraft, I know for a fact that when the shiny new bmi airbuses which are indeed being leased by baby in the light of the late arrival of new leases have with almost immediate effect of flying the busy baby schedule flown straight into tech problems which weren't there when they flew the bmi routes one even had an engine shutdown and divert enroute!...its not nessesarily the aircraft its a tough beating for any aircraft to take and thats the nature of the flying which goes for all low cost airlines including the previously mentioned ryanair, easyjet and Flybe. The only difference being that Baby don't (unless they HAVE to) cancel flights and ditch the passengers, they get the aircraft fixed or swapped and still get the pax where they want to go. These tech problems are a product of the business not the aircraft and they are common throughout.

Belavia

Can anybody confirm which aircraft the Belavia flights will be this year?
I have heard they are 737-500 but hoping they are Tupolev 154s.

Probably B737 as they now have at least 3 new ones ( to them ) and all the flights to Manchester have been so far this summer

Some pretty hefty delays today at BHX - NE Bratislava, FCA Funchal and KM Malta all reporting 6hr+ delays plus the EK late tonight aswell. BMI Baby also in quite a mess. Whats up with the Baby, I keep reading of a/c problems and shortages, are they in trouble? I am flying a lot with them in July and much as I like BHX, I do not relish the thought of waiting for hours on end in the departure lounge reading 'delayed/next information at blah blah time' on the monitor screens Not good when FR have just set up shop at BHX (although they too are not immune from delays either)

Baby are not in trouble, quite the contrary, apparently commercially they're doing pretty well at the moment. There have been some issues with tight schedules due to the delays in the arrival of the two extra airframes which should arrive shortly. In the meantime any tech delays have compounded these issues. However they generally try and get their passengers to the destination unlike a certain other airline who just cancel flights and abandon people.

For those that enjoy Baby bashing, don't forget that they were the UK's most punctual lo-co airline last year so things can't be that bad. FLIGHTONTIME.info - Low Cost Airline Delays & Punctuality in the UK (not including Ryanair as technically they aren't a UK airline)

Yep, we're not in trouble. Loads are damned good, but, as mentioned, still awaiting the arrival of YI/YL. So, rather than cancel, we're doing all we can ensure the programme runs as "smoothly" as possible, which, unfortunately, involves the odd diversion and coach trip for the customers.
Keeps me and my colleagues over at Tinytown very busy but not downhearted !

Little Blue

Understatement re the loads? Just hope they are getting the yields to match.

Culprit seems to be G-OGBD this time, not shown on acarsd from midnight
27/28 until it operated the Rome from BHX this afternoon .

G-TOYD is also missing from acarsds today

You can't take appearances as a judge of aircraft either, as I have been on ZE and KD fairly recently and they look tired inside but I have just checked the whole month on acarsd and the three 500's operated everyday and the majority between four and eight sectors .

The problems seem random with the 300 fleet although G-TOYD appears to have had a light couple of weeks compared to some.

Just hope they have it sorted by mid August when I use them.

FlyBoyUK - Thank you for your reply, just out of interest where are these airframes coming from and how soon is shortly?

I am certainly not a Baby basher, I was a frequent user of the airline until I moved out to the Middle East and have never suffered any major delays or problems

However they generally try and get their passengers to the destination unlike a certain other airline who just cancel flights and abandon people
Exactly - which is why I have booked with you again for my summer holidays
