Summer 2008
On the subject of the based charter fleet does anybody know if the BD A320 will be based at weekends again?
Does KTHY return?
Also a lot of the charter destinations on the BHX online timetable include an XLA number, is this just an error?

XLA
Revo
The XLA seem to be for Libra and when you go on their site the days
don't match, in fact most of theirs are on the KM. I would say it is
almost certainly a mistake or recent change.
BD weekend flights have been chopped but so were EMA's but they
have a peak period base per a post on the EMA thread but they are
supposed to be extra Thomas Cook flights.
I have not heard of any similar thing happening at BHX.
KTHY - 19/5 recommencement date????

The XLA flights are being operated for Excel by Air Malta this season. Same is happening at NCL as well I believe.
Previous poster correct in saying most of these operating for Libra Holidays.

Charter aircraft based this Summer 2008
Nice one. Thanks to all who replied .
Was just unsure about the Thomsonfly aircraft, as they seem to have an ever growing fleet of B737's and wondered if they were subbing one of their B757's for one, as most airports seem to have a B737 of some sort based this Summer.
Also nice to hear that Monarch will have a B757 charter this Summer .
Cheers.

LH - Different to BA
Ringwayman,
Interesting observation. Germany is a very diffferent animal to the UK, and LH a different business model to BA.
As a federal country, Germany does not suffer a Frankfurt or Berlin "centric" system. Germany has a hat full of cities of pretty well equal importance - Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Hannover, Berlin, Stuttgart to name but six. Each is the main city in their repective Bundeslaender (states which have considerably more power and influence than, for example British counties, or French departements - in some respects more power than even the Welsh or Scottish administrations have). LH has historically served longhaul points direct from many of these and offers a good range of European services from these and many other German airports because power, influence, and money is not concentrated in one city, or area of the country it is probably more viable to do so.
Conversely, the British (and French) systems revolve arround the respective capitals - with the result that the respective national airlines have little interest or incentive to serve other cities with Long Haul services - though I recall their are leisure services to the French Caribbean from Marseilles and Lyon.
If Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle, for example were capital cities of a federal UK then, I think, over time, BA and other UK based carriers might have to think more broadly about the airports they serve with meaningful bases.
Just my thoughts.

There won't be regular ops on the 737 out of birmingham for some time. No cabin crew there is trained on it. Just 757/767 so the 1 or 2 weekly 737 flights(if they even have them this year!!) will be done as a W pattern out of another 737 base such as DSA/EMA/MAN etc...
E.g.
(EMA-AGP-BHX-AGP-EMA)
only way to tell is if you leave before you arrived the previous week or you leave after double the flight time the previous week.
