Bits and Bobs

Just been reading on the Centralwings thread that the airline has just announced a huge operating loss and that its own President seems somewhat resigned to the possibility of going bust - so what chance the RIDICULOUSLY timed 0140 departure to Krakow even starting let alone lasting a whole season??!!

Cabin crew rumour at Baby is another two new routes to be announced from BHX but that further expansion on cards for MAN - my mate has been offered chance to transfer to MAN base in June

Local aviation press here in the Middle East has reported Safir Airways off to good start on Kabul-Dubai route using leased 767 and on target to launch flights to BHX this year - anyone heard about this in the UK?

Ref extra EI flights for Gold Cup - ah remember the days well when EI used to bring in 747's and more recently 330's - T1 was certainly alive alive oh with the craic back then!

Any news on TK?? Obviously not a March start but later this year maybe??

Great to see latest edition of BHX Timetable looking a lot bigger with all the new FR routes now included FR listed as operting all flights from T1 - any news on their proposed move to T2?

Local aviation press here in the Middle East ....
Have I missed something here?
Was this one of the after effects of the earthquake?
Or is the area around Kidderminster known as the Middle East?
I think we should be told

Several recent ground handling posts moved to the ground handling forum:
I thought they would be of a general interest to those of us on the BHX site. It's bad enough already bouncing around the forums to get all the information of interest.

Agree call.....I would rather read all the posts even ( especially) about ground handling here - after all ground handling is an "interesting" issue at BHX.

Do the moderators move posts as a result of comments/complaints or just a judgement? If opinions matter...I would rather they stayed here plz

Resident Foxes

Overheard ATC remark to a pilot he should not worry about his( pilot's) report of a fox on the airfield, as they are resident and tend to keep out of the way.

They seem more resident than ever this year, and not fussed about being supposed to be nocturnal, nor the lack of interesting food on the airfield. Maybe they are staying to enjoy the games of chase with Ops having to herd them off the airfield repeatedly. Suspect the game is running out of steam - at least from the Ops side. Having said that, not heard any reported fox-strikes - yet!

Flybe 195's

It seems that BHX is to get a second based as rumoured.

It is loaded from 2nd September 2008 on the following
routes: -

Milan MXP 0730 1240
Paris CDG 1330 1640
Dusseldorf 1715 2040

I would have bet on the evening Milan myself rather
than DUS ( a right mix on DUS 2 x145, 1 x Q400 & 1 x 195)!

No more Q400's loaded as yet (4 based).

New Ceo?

Any word on the search for a new boss for the airport? Will he/she actually be in aviation or something else a la BAA.

Fox Strike

Ah I hadn't heard that one. Did notice they are strangely attracted to the runway - especially in the mornings.

The Foxes have been around for years. Most of them come from outside the field. Although I once attended a reporting of cats by Bravo. They turned out to be two fox cubs....There has been an increase in the last couple of years.
One was seen recently strolling down taxiway Yankee. The other day one just strolled in front of an A/C lined up at Alpha.
Yes they are a pain to chase off. ATC and Pilots have fun calling 'Tally Ho!' over the radio. Don't think one was hit on the runway a couple of weeks ago.....In fact it's a long time since one got hit. I have found a tail in the past that had been ripped off. Can only assume the rest legged it in a lot of pain.
They are a danger. That's why they end up getting chased. Ways are being looked at to reduce them. The problem is that if you get rid of one another usually replaces it pretty quickly.
One of the downsides of living in the middle of a Country Park.....

flybe Q400's at bhx

Technically my last post was right no more night-stopping Q400's
other than the current four but it has been pointed out that from
12/6/08 the night-stopping DUS is a Q400 (typical checked all
their rotations except for this which includes HAM & IOM).

The aircraft is in certain reservation systems already as follows: -

N/S in DUS ARR 0745 then out to IOM and back, then out
to HAM and back followed by IOM and back again and finally
out to DUS on the night-stop.

Therefore a fair few more seats in the market from June & Sept.

Revo

Not heard about the 310's, there was one Thursday but a
triple again last night. Loads have been disappointing since#
going 4 a week as a triple (CAA stats).

PIA

Revo

I have checked the PIA website it shows a 777 until Thursday in
the "Schedule" section and after that it is blank or shows 777
occasionally.

The seat availability section is different with every flight shown as
a 777 up to mid April.

In fact Economy is sold out on every flight until 25/3 and Economy plus
also on a couple of occasions.

Now for the suspicious bit, From 30/3/08 the Economy Plus is
show with an x in a box as if it is not available. It normally just
shows an x when sold out.

I also checked a couple of dates in May and it was showing as
777 but no Economy plus.

It was 777 today as well.

With PIA new fare structures and luggage allowances it would definatley be unwise to move back to the A310.

Its one of the selling points for that it is a 777 as opposed to the old a310
