March Pax

Another very good month only down 1.7%.

Source: CAA

Pax 662429 and rolling year 9002242 down 5%

A quick scan of individual routes show record Emirates figures at 46000+

PIA was over 10000, which also might be a record and Turkmen was over
6000, again I don't believe that has happened very often.

As for European routes, FRA, DUS, MUC, HAJ, HAM, CDG, ZRH & AMS
were all up!

The Spanish services were down in general except for Girona.

Continental also added 800 pax in March.

Ryanair Prague

After ryanair's latest rant BHX - Prague is no longer bookable after 30/06/10.

This will leave no Prague service until baby are back on the route in
October half-term.

I wonder if they will reconsider dropping it from 3/1/11?

It would be good to see CSA back similar to the re-instated
Manchester service.

NB. FR have increased Murcia & Palma to five weekly once PRG
stops.

City Airline have pushed back the second GOT weekday flight
until 10/5/2010. This I am told is due to awaiting an ex flybe
145 to arrive in the fleet.

Prague From Bhx

As we are going to lose our Prague flights -again, may this be a good time for Wizz ?? there are many destinations in the Wizz schedules that would work........... but they only seem to use BHX as a diversion airport from LTN

FR time changes

Just got a email advising of time changes for my June flights.
GOING OUT
From Birmingham(BHX) to Barcelona Girona(GRO)
Wed, 16/06/2010 Flight 9163 Depart BHX at 0835 and arrive GRO at 1145
(This was originally a midday flight)

COMING BACK
From Barcelona Girona(GRO) to Birmingham(BHX)
Fri, 25/06/2010 Flight 9162 Depart GRO at 2050 and arrive BHX at 2205
( this was originally Depart GRO at 12:35 and arrive BHX at 13:50)

What are they up to? I don't think there are any change in numbers based at BHX, so is it just schedule juggling?

Girona

The flights look straight there and back to me, they just depart different times different days, perhaps its a re jig due to the loss of Prague aroung that time.

Girona

ssflyer

Not sure when you booked but those changes happened a while ago.

All BHX Girona flights were on a Girona based aircraft but most (except one?)
change to a BHX based aircraft from this weekend.

I think at same time the Faro flight changed from a BHX based aircraft to a Faro based aircraft and the Girona route has filled some of the Faro slots which were flown in April by a BHX based aircraft.

Simple really - not!

I assume they needed to fill the time of one of the Faro based aircraft whilst at the same time releasing the Girona based aircraft to do a new route or increased frequencies from Girona.

BHX has a number of routes starting in 2010 by new carriers, have all there routes been operated in the past at some point?

Are there any more routes in prospect for BHX late this year?

Routes

Surviving the review of European routes by CO/UA should be high on the list of priorities. Piggy in the middle of LHR/MAN springs to mind again ala AA.

Frogga

It is certainly a quiet period at present with few rumours.

Aer Lingus Shannon on an Aer Arann ATR is the only one I can think off at present.

The Emirates flight 37 was/is rumoured to change to a two class 77W
427 or 428 seats but it is usually one of them half the time anyway.

Mahan Air was rumoured to change to a 340 once clearance is given but
the A300-600 turns up now anyway which is a boost in capacity compared
to last summer.

Turkish seem to have downgraded four flights to the 73W, which based on their loads is a sensible thing to do. The Friday seems to still be a 320 and any sign of a holiday and the 321's soon appear. Turkish were also brilliant after the ash problem bringing in several extra flights.

The most significant boost to the summer as previously mentioned is the arrival of the Thomson 76W high density around the 20th May for the Med routes, which leaves four days with two 76W's based.

On the downside Thomson seem to have dropped the Dominican Republic from BHX next summer but the overall schedule for a first release is fine.

More cost cutting on the way....

Rumour has it that the paramedic contract will be cancelled, with first aiders roaming around the terminals in their place.

That's not a rumour its a fact......Huge difference between a paramedic and a first aider. Still, it's only when you suffer serious injury or heart failure in the terminal that you will notice the difference....
Cost cutting eh! Where will it end???

Hello, my name's John. Can you hear me? I'm a first-aider, (even though I've never seen anyone unconscious before) I'm here to help. Can you open your eyes (oh hell, what does DR ABC stand for?) (if I give him a Chinese burn do I get sued?)...etc. This is scandalous in an airport the size of Birmingham, and if you've ever seen programmes like 'Airport' and 'Airline' you will have seen how fantastic the trained paramedics are. I hope the local press have been alerted.

Ash disruption

FR2557 from Malaga due 14.00 cancelled
ZB971 from Malaga due 13.45 landed 14.35

FR2163 from Palma due 18.30 cancelled
ZB959 from Palma 12.10 landed 13.29
TCX212L from Palma 12.40 landed 13.35
WW1844 from Palma 22.00 estimating 21.57

This time I assume the wrong type of ash - only affects Irish registered
737-800's?

Local press had a letter from Monarch pax praising how they handled
the previous ash disruption.

Not sure what ash charts FR were looking at but i assume not the same as
all the other airlines by the look of it.
