757 Speedsbrakes, I do not think you are correct.
The 737's going to Leeds are additional capacity for S08. They are not a replacement of the 4 757's based next summer. The displaced one 757 to BFS this winter is for commercial reasons, not operational.

We all seem to be assuming that EZY will come to MAN in the near future - I hope it'strue for not only our sake but for the airport's!

At around what time do airlines STOP launching new routes for a summer season?

Cheers.

CR7 has it...anyway on another matter

The Jet2 733 can handle the 32 Cat III ILS, ie 200m TDZ IRVR. Gone a long way to dispelling all that chatter about LBA and fog......however....

...The 757, can do it [Cat III], it does float [I have footage on DVD of a Britannia 757 doing a practice Cat III which floats] however the fact that the 757 is heavier (on a shortish runway) means that LS won't pass the 757 for Cat III approaches in anger.

If I were Mr Parkin I'd be looking at getting Cat II on 14 (if feasible....I'm told it is) and I'd look at what can be done at the 32 end re pulling the threshold back so the Radar-Alt has a chance.....I'm available as a consultant if necessary

Looks like its going to be a quiet summer 2008 in MAN, only 5 a/c and 6 destination.

MAN destinations for S08

I had it as 9 (so far)..ACE, AGP, ALC, IBZ, MJV, NCE, PSA, PMI & TFS.

Some indications that at least BUD may be added to this list!

I maybe wrong!

Add FAO to that list.

Seems they are pulling alot of the flights from BLK and MAN. BLK down to 2 a/c next summer and a reduction in flights (even though more destinations).

You cannot expect LS to only use 5 a/c from the airport. MAN is one of their major bases and although they are concentrating on LBA at the moment, MAN flights will definately have some of the best loads across their network.

Obviously we can still expect BUD which is a major money maker! (Anybody know why?)

Anyway, if the rumour mill is starting to reveal the truth, we may see four EZY aircraft replacing the LS moving up to LBA!

Shark1 I'd be very surprised, seems Jet2 are in full retraction mode at MAN just now.

I believe TLS is dropped.

There's also FCO, VLC, and I'm sure FAO will be there.

MUFC Fan - there are only 5 planned a/c from MAN for S08, 2 737's and 3 757's.

Dart group shares down 20% today as the H1 results were published.

"On an underlying basis, we now expect second half performance to be in line with

last year. This revised expectation is driven principally by a combination of

winter revenues being lower than previously anticipated and an increase in

aircraft maintenance costs.

The Group's underlying profitability for the year will therefore be

significantly reduced from last year, reflecting the investment made in growing

the scheduled airline operations, which have seen passenger growth of over 50%

in the first half of the year. We believe this investment in the growth of the

airline leaves us well placed to improve profitability going forward."

Manchester routes

The situation, as described by a man at the top:

The Summer08 routes will be joined by FAO, FCO and BUD. The ones we are dropping are of marginal profitability, mainly because they are difficult to market at the far end of the route. The ones that remain are very strong, profitable and longterm. Some can justify only a B737 size aircraft, so as to maintain the frequency.

Manchester may have been cut back, but what remains is a big plus in Jet2's overall operation.

Jet2 buying?

You are kidding right! I have only flown on J2 6 times, only once was the experience not a complete comedy of errors/delays/crap service.

Jet2 is a shocking airline that needs to get their own house in order before shopping around.

Dogma, as a Jet2 757 Captain I feel the need to know why we are a shocking airline. Elaborate please, preferably with facts.

Dogma! I am crew for J2 and would like to know why the service is so shocking? and have flown with GSM to compare?
Having worked for 4 airlines I can assure you that Jet2 may not be the worlds best airline (Although we are Europes best short haul airline and that is OFFICIAL!beating off LH, KL and BA!!) but we are by no means the worst.

Dogma, I've flown Jet2 a number of times and while there have been occasional delays, I've found them no worse in that regard than any other airline I've used. No errors and the kind of service I'd expect from the market sector, in fact better than some of their LoCo competitors. While it's not a scientific result or anything, you do realise they have come top of the Observer rankings for short haul airlines for the last couple of years?

I suppose it is too late to say that I meant no offence?

5 of the 6 were delayed more than 1 hour. The funniest was having expected a dep of 0830, the boards said 0930, having looked again at the screens at 0900 it said gate closing! Pax sprinting down corridors to the usual coach for long txfer to remote stand. Upon arriving at aircraft the Captain said they were ready to go at 0800! Ops/Agents had evidently F-ed up the schedules.

Twice I was moved from my online checkin seat (no refund)

On one occasion, following a 3 hour delay, the Captain did not even make a PA and the CC did not venture out of the galleys - Suspect the change of type to a 757 resulted in zero supplies/bars - heads in sand all round.

Generally the aircraft are knackered out and have a horrible interior colour scheme.

J2 in my limited experience are the worst airline I have flown with in Europe. Pity because Channex was a top little outfit.

.... maybe it was the same voters that made GSM the Best Holiday Airline at The Scottish Passenger Agents Association (SPAA) Awards! What a Joke.

By the way, the German low-coster, AirBerlin, beat the likes of Jet2.com and Zoom Airlines to the title of "Best No-Frills Airline". (Readers of The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph)

I know which of the four above I'd choose - and it's German.

As for the idea of these pair getting together, it'd be the airline equivalent of a cut 'n' shut job.
