Short answer is no, bmi pilot base was closed (albeit with a couple of guys who wished to stay there but live out of suitcases,to avoid relocating) several years ago.

Pilots operating from MME will either have nightstopped or operated into MME as part of a multi-sector day.

A real shame because it was a cracking place to be based, but bmi felt it would be more efficient to run the schedule with LHR based pilots.

A regional skipper here at Leeds told me MME will be a regional base from W08, With based crews not night stoppers?

"Ah! So your all wrong!" Peel intend to swamp the airfield site with hotels!

Existing hotels.
The George.
The Spa. Which also has a carpark. Resaon for the big fence between the airport and hangers. Punters have a long walk or have to get a taxi.

New aplications.
Hilton
And now a Peel hotel.

Perhaps the new hotels will kill off the George and the Spa.

Kerry Quinn, Durham Tees Valley Airport director, said: ‘Passengers enjoy both the opportunity to sleep on the airport's doorstep before an early morning flight and also having a room to sleep in if they arrive late at night from a flight.’
This profoundly bland statement came from the airport director, clearly another way that the limit of this lady's contribution to DTV's development is little more than to state the bl**dy obvious, unless of course that is one considers her being of assistance to Hughie,
& No it isn't a 'Peel' Hotel! . But a franchise of a global brand. If Ms Quinn had half a brain she would have stressed the benefits of having a recognised brand hotel development, albeit their lower range brand. Interestingly with the Spa up for sale a few weeks ago, then is this the next stage in its redevelopment ? or further competition ? What ever the George must be considering it's prospects............

As Skyman correctly points out, the Hilton and Peel hotels are one and the same thing, a single ‘Hilton brand’ hotel being built on Peel land near the airport entrance. However, if things continue as they are under the current useless management, the 4 passengers that actually might stay in the hotels on site will be able to ring flight ops from their rooms and arrange a departure time to suit themselves, all part of the service and at no extra cost !!

There were in fact 3 separate DTV related articles in the local press on Tuesday, and all were about the different developments planned for the site, including the hotel. 3 in a single day is unprecedented for DTV, even if they were the same old recycled stories for the umpteenth time in three years.
Being an old cynic, is Peel trying to get lots of positive spin out to the unquestioning local press hacks to counteract some possible bad news looming on the horizon? Just a thought.

Will this just be a base to service the LHR route, or are there plans for a couple more services with bmir.

am sure BMI Regional base is largely just to service LHR which ive seen something on the BMI thread about its going all embraer (long gone are the days of 5 flights per day on DC9/737 - or even three full flights per day at sensible times on an airbus - a route - which someone once told me a few yrs back was BMI's most profitable at the time - when they were just UK and Europe, slowly killed off ) anyway - if they for example base and EMB here and operate the three frequencies per day to LHR there are still very large gaps when its sitting around - depends if they sit it around at LHR and fly it to somewhere else, or sit it around here and erm probably park it for large chunks of the day!! - however i am sure if could pop to Jersey...or Belfast.....or Paris and not park it...operate it from LHR to somewhere ...or ..try to knock out Eastern on the ABZ

Also
I might have dreamt it - but am sure i saw something on a IOM/Manx2 thread last week about MME - was i dreaming, does anyone know if we may get a new route

No chance of extra routes when the BMI Embraer is based. First flight to LHR is now departing at 08.40 arriving at 10.00! Then it comes straight back up and leaves again at 13.45. BD338 is now leaving LHR at 1545. (LBA to LHR also departs at 08.10 so that is a big change for that route).

Just about the hotels, the St George is of course also 'a Durham Tees Valley Airport Hotel' so I think the airport already own it.

And yes manx2 was mentioned as a possible new airline to MME.

The new times are really shocking. You get to LHR too late for most people wanting to go to work for the day down there. it comes straight back up here arriving (first flight of the day - around midday) - cant see what good that is to anyone. The 338 now leaving at 15:45 rather than nearer 17:00 - i cant see being much use, 17:00 was just about ok to say your leaving early today!! - what time is the last flight, if its the same as now it will be dare i say it, too busy (as the other flights are useless for people finishing work and getting to the airport) on an EMB 145 and the gap between the 338 and the 340 is going to be large - am not sure i understand the logic!

Same issue for LBA too, are they just trying to run these routes into the ground - ask a stupid question i know!!

Id be tempted to go to LGW (if we had the route) come on Flybe - an 80 seater operator might be the way forward for MME - and not just to LGW!!

TNT Still own/lease the hangar half lorries half maintenance, now gone.
The trucks are breading like the local rabbits! So has there been an upturn in the freight buisiness?

More good news is bmi regional to open a pilot base here in October for when they start running the LHR route. Currently it is operated with LHR crews.

So whats this about Manx2 coming then?

Also Flyglobespan have been given the last few weeks of the Palma by Thomas Cook as a replacement for Futura. It will run on Saturday night/Sunday morning after Saturdays flights, departing from DTV at 2300 and arriving back at 0500 Sunday.

If i read it right, does the opening of a Regional base mean no more 19s and 20s?

Was always planned to be that way throughout the winter as far as I know, was last winter too.
Whether it will stay ERJ next summer I don't know, was planned to be some 319's and 320's back but that may have changed now.

An extract of the same article.
Airport bosses are confident ...are ploughing ahead with plans to boost annual passenger numbers from 750,000 to three million by 2015.
As said, ever more hpye 400%!!! in next 5 years. Kerry & her team needs to start working a bit harder.
