Good question. She was on the ground at Seville for well over an hour so I am told.
I had one bit of unfinished business to attend to in the Geneva area and before the route finishes for the summer had a wish to get over there again but the prices between now and the end of March are very steep so not to be I am afraid. Okay, they have cancelled a few flights but it seems to me EI have managed their yield on Geneva pretty well. Again, I feel GVA would work throughout the year so with that in mind make sure you fill in the Cork Chamber questionnaire being touted in the local Cork news today about seeking new business for the airport. It looks like the Chamber crowd want ideas for new business from the UK, Europe and east coast USA.
Someone should have told them that Christmas was about seven weeks ago! Ho, ho, ho!

GVA Service
Geneva does seem to be holding it's own. Not surprising considering the typical passenger profile and the lack of services between Munster and Switzerland, Eastern France and Northern Italy to be honest, aswell as the great skiing in the area and the huge growth in DIY skiing recently. Just back from a couple of days in Cham. and Saturday's GVA flight was packed and todays home was about 2/3 filled, with about 75:25 Irish to Franco/Swiss passengers. Not bad though for a mid-week in February

The booking engine is correct regarding the Gatwick flights.
Was supposed to be flying to Gatwick on March 20th. EI have just sent an e-mail saying that they are not operating the flights on these dates.
They've booked me onto Heathrow flights instead. I can't complain.

Hmm.
I was due to go on the March 6th flights and had booked a ticket for Brighton - just for the fun of it.
Now they've rebooked me on Heathrow flights that give me 2 hours less in London.
Arrghh - I wonder will they change to an earlier or later one when I ring ?

East Cork,
I was on Thursday's flight from Geneva..75% seats filled. Makes you wonder why Aer Lingus wouldn't extend it to the summer schedule with at least a weekly service initially..
Another option would be for the CAA to approach Baboo, the Geneva based airline which flies the Embraer 190 to offer flights between Geneva and Cork.

GVA would probably hold it's own relatively well for the summer. I think the problem EI have at ORK is there is business for more than 4 aircraft at ORK, but maybe not quite 5. Depending how summer 2010 goes, a 5th A320 might be possible for 2011. BHX could definitely support additional flying, probably MAN too, although RE might be better placed to operate those flights.

I was passing the airport around 11 tonight and saw about 6 ambulances/emergency vehicles around an Aerlingus A320 - presumably the one from Heathrow. Any ideas as to what happened?

There is a story on RTE about 10 pax been taken ill coming in from Lanzarote last night
Speaking on RTÉ Radio, Cork Airport duty medical officer Dr Chris Luke said that the cause was most likely a winter virus, which was compounded by turbulence during the flight.

What was with all the Aer Lingus A321s at the airport on Sunday?
I went out on the 11:50 to Heathrow and there were at least 2 others parked up there as well. Were there diversions in from Dublin? In which case, why only A321s!

regarding GVA, et al, all it takes is for someone (hint...airport management) to take the finger out and try to serve the market which clearly exists. If SWISS can serve Shannon and Knock, albeit chater services, Geneva is not too far fetched from Cork.
I for one would love to be able to get there easily during the summer. Northern Italy is sadly lacking service also and while Nice is an option it is far from attractive for most prospective passengers.
I think the new ITAA headman is local, there's been a few articles recently in "D Paper" regarding his role and he mentioned specifically how Cork needs a smattering of extra routes, I think even talks with Turkish were mentioned but don't quote me, I've just finished my pre's so the brain is a bit off-form
That would be quite the boost if it transpired however! He has also been lobbying for the use of air-bridges at our palace on the hill, I'm with him on that

Regarding more new routes, it has been a good start in 2010 with the new route announcements by Ryanair and Aer Lingus/Aer Arann but whilst I don't expect it to happen this year, a Cork-New York service would really be a coming of age for the airport. It just amazes me that Shannon has 3 airlines flying to New York but Cork cannot even attract one airline. Considering the population difference between Cork and Shannon/Limerick, Shannon airport's success is truly amazing in the current economic climate and in the open skies era
Whilst the Cork runway length is a restriction for long haul aircraft, the 757 which Delta and Continental fly to Shannon would be perfect for Cork. If one of those 2 airlines decided to move to Cork, they would have a lot less competition than they currently have at Shannon.
Til then Cork airport users will continue to have to fly via Dublin, London or Amsterdam to fly to the Big Apple.

A little bit simplistic . you would have the problem of Immigration clearance also getting enough catering on and off and probably the most important fact is that Fianna Fail are not yet ready to lose a seat in Clare Beacuse the minute a transatlantic moves to Cork its bye bye SNN

I beg to differ but the board of the DAA which owns all three airports is controlled and filled by the FF led government . They will decide what levels of support are given to new routes from Cork to America .
What will probably happen is all airlines will pull Transatlantic from SNN first and then a year later start from Cork . This is probably three to four years down the road , Although looking at the figures released this Morning from EI . It might come sooner than expected .With regards to catering out Cork .as far as I know the flight kitchen is closed there and there is no actual meals been produced
