Liverpool to Gibraltar
easyJet has announced that the Liverpool to Gibraltar service will commence on Tuesday 29th March 2011 operating three times a week. I think this is at the expense of Liverpool to Dubrovnik which appears to have been dropped.

easy v The Airport again
Looks like relationships with Easy are still strained.
Unfortunately nowadays it is normal for airlines to be at loggerheads with Airport Authorities about lots of things but most of don't hit the press. Should think the delays hit FR as well?
Has the Post got something against the Airport?
01.01.11 UK Airport News
An investigation is underway after more than 40 passengers missed flights at Liverpool Airport after being delayed getting through security, the Post reports. Some passengers reported taking up to two hours to get through security, according to airline easyJet, which has had a previous spat with the airport over security delays. The budget was forced to delay some planes, and some of its passengers had to be put on the next flight.
A spokesman for the airport said an investigation was under way, but he added security had normal levels of staffing and all equipment was working correctly. He said it appeared the delays started at check-in desks, which are run by handling agents on behalf of airlines.
The spokesman said: ‘We did have some big queues in security because there was a big peak of people coming through at the same time, which caused delays. There appear to have been some bigger problems in the check-in area because passengers were delayed getting up to security.' He said staff had reviewed CCTV footage and it showed some passengers had still not entered security 35 minutes before their flight was due for departure.
A spokeswoman for easyJet told the newspaper: ‘We do not know what the problem was because our check-in desks all closed on time and there was no problem at our end. But we have heard of delays of up to two hours going through security. There were a lot of very annoyed people.’

Suzeman. Firstly I must admit to no longer believing anything I read in the Liverpool Daily Post any more. It is a shadow of the paper that it used to be and proper journalism seems to be a thing of the past.
This is the first story for a while about security at LPL and my instincts tell me that whilst someone may have missed their flight they are using the 'delays at security' tick box from the list of excuses that puts everyone other than themselves at fault.
The story is lacking in any sort of detail to make a proper judgement (again increasingly typical of the LDP) it doesn't even say what time of day this happened. The only telling detail is the bit about passengers being monitored on cctv not having progressed to security 35 minutes before flight departure. If that was the case it is no surprise they missed their flight.
I cannot believe it took 2 hours to get through security - it would have affected hundreds of passengers if that was the case, not 40, and affected airlines other than Easyjet....

The not entering security until 35 minutes before the flight says to me either there was a problem at check in or they arrived late at the airport. It could be a combination of the two as well. But the check in staff will not blame themselves when others can cop the blame, pity they did not think too hard on CCTV giving the game away.
Interesting that no Ryanair passengers where quoted in the story.

If you read the comments again the airport spokesman says that the people in question had not even entered security 35 minutes before their flight was due to depart - remember that EZY's regulations require that passengers present themselves at the gate for boarding no less than 25 minutes before the stated departure time - so someone checking in on the deadline would technically only have 15 minutes to get up to security, pass through the security checks and then get to the gate - which can be some distance...
I agree with DWLPL that the problem on this particular day seems to have originated at the check-in stage...but no doubt we'll never know for certain as the LDP never seems to admit when it's got a story wrong....

EZY checkin desks close 40 mins before departure so the airport should be capable of getting passengers who have correctly checked in through to the gate on time.

iirc the article they says entered security 35 minutes before departure. iirc it doesnt say when they checked in or when they arrived at the airport.
so with a desk deadline of 40 minutes, the general principal should be that this should be sufficient time to pass through security.
if it isnt they should make the deadline longer.
however, i know from personal experience that i have done check in area to gate 1 in 6 minutes - but i was late, i was rushing, i was not one of the passengers involved in the incident cited in the article, in my incident it was mid sunday afternoon and there was no one else in the queue at security.
in my incident i had checked in online so went straight to security rather than going to a desk. the general point i make still stands

So where (and why) did they get to, there is not much down on Level1 to occupy the time of people.
To me it points to those people arriving late at check in.

Either that, or the pax had checked in and were just dithering airside!
They probably blamed security as its always easier to blame someone else.

iirc the article said they arrived at security t-35. so it doesnt sound like they were dithering airside. that sounds like the issue was airside.
maybe i am missing something here, but if you are late for check in, you cant check in.
so lets say they checked in right on the deadline of t-40 mins. assessing cctv shows them arriving at security t-35mins. thats not unrealisitc....

If they came up to security at the back of approx 1000 people then perhaps its no wonder they could not get through in time.

that makes 40 minute check in deadlines nonsense if its not possible to get from the desk to the gate in that time
