Rant time!
I went through Liverpool airport tonight, and I'm going to try and make it the last time I go near the place!
All of the staff I had the (dis)pleasure to deal with were completely miserable and in some cases rude. I'm talking about the Servisair check-in staff, security and even the exec. lounge staff.
Also the new security area just doesn't seem to work, massive queues and it's been like that every time I've been through since it opened.
What is going on, why does the new security area not work?
Why does nobody at the airport crack a smile?

I've been very critical of the security search area queues in the past, but since it has been done I have had an excellent experience. The average wait is literally a few minutes and on one occasion it was more like 7 minutes. I travel through LPL at least once per month.
That's a typical response mouser. However as Crew I know some of these people (albeit not at LPL) and not all are in minimum wage and not all hate their jobs. It might just be that they were getting a load of sh*t from pax that day. Again as crew it's very hard to board an aircraft and smile and greet when on some days many PAX either ignore you or have sly digs for something out of your control. All part of the job but it can be hard days.

LPL Security
Can only speak as you find but I went through LPL last month, at one of their peak times, and found security to be straight forward, the staff courteous and efficent. Back again in June and hope its more of the same...

LPL Security
Went through LPL a couple of weeks ago for the first time in several years. Admittedly it was late morning - no queue whatsoever, staff were some of the most pleasant security staff I have come across recently and I generally take, on average, three return flights per month worldwide.
Pity, the experience was spoilt by only three immigration desks open on my return. If I can use automatic gates with a UK passport at both Manchester and Lisbon, why are they not available at Liverpool?

The UK Border at LPL is always a pain.
It is not helped by the fact that two corridors feed into into the immigration hall with no proper management of how the two groups of PAX merge.
I cannot understand why they employ someone to usher people forward to the desks when they could spend the money employing an extra immigration officer - totally pointless.
An IRIS gate at LPL would be great but I think the UK Border Agency lacks commitment to the system. They recently removed the IRIS gate at LGW South (the terminal is being re-modeled) and they haven't committed to replacing it.

I agree that extra Immigration Officers would be a great help, but until that happy day dawns, someone might suggest the existing staff `pull their fingers out` just a tad Now that would make a difference!!

Having flown from Liverpool a couple of times recently, I have to say there were no problems at all with the staff. The lower floor of the terminal building is light and airy, but the departure lounge is possibly the most depressing I have experienced. It is so dark - the only places to get some reasonable natural light are the cafe areas. The carpets are due for a good clean at least, if not a complete replacement. A shame really, as moves are being made to improve rail links to the airport, which certainly has potential.

According to a good source posting in the Ryanair forum Ryanair will announce on Monday that they are re-opening their Manchester base. Bad news for LPL as a lot of people from the Manchester area have been using the Ryanair services from there to save money.
No rumors on the routes. We shall see Monday hopefully.
