It appears that some interesting slots have been filed at LCY for the summer 2011 in addition to the existing services (some of these may be real, some may be airlines just thinking out loud...):
- Air Berlin: 3 Dash 8s per day from Dusseldorf
- Skywork: 1 Dash 8 per day from Berne (mentioned already)
- Astra Airlines (Greece): 3 BAe146s per week from Verona/Brescia
- Malmo Aviation: 2 Avro RJs per day from Stockholm Bromma
And then for BA:
- 2 flights per day to Munich
- new early flight to Zurich (0700 departure)
- 3 flights per week to Sofia (if true we can perhaps expect a reduction of LHR-SOF frequency to be announced?)
- 3 flights per week to Keflavik
Even if Sofia and Keflavik are true, Munich somehow seems less believable (not least because the flight times seem too short - more in the Hamburg/Dusseldorf range... )
Interesting times ahead?

For BA also add Milano Linate (previous service was to MXP) and Venice to the list. LIN was always prefered over MXP and was always blocked by the Italian authorities I was told.

Milan is a good commercial/business destination. Venice is not.

Surely there is not enough aircraft in the fleet?

I doubt this is the case. They have allready had issues with lack of airframes where some routes such as Cardiff - Dublin & Cardiff - Cork were sacrificed for the flights they had to start in the winter season.
The only 2 x Aer Arann ATR-72 aircraft which are left are the od-ball EI-REH & EI-REI.
The Aer Arann product will only suffer if more aircraft will go on to the Aer Lingus Regional operation without more arriving to the fleet as they havn't had a good summer operation by all accounts.

They havent even got a permanent aircraft for IOM LCY yet. Has gone from ATR72 to ATR 42 and now Do328. 328 is good on the route but its a one off and leased in so not cheap

Do Aer Arann/EI Regional not have an additional 2x 72-500's due for delivery this coming summer?
Any word yet on the rumours of Air Berlin coming to LCY? Or any other route announcements from other airlines?

Just saw on the LCY website that they are asking for opinions about BUD- OPO and FCO as the next new destinations.
As we are just at it, on the LCY Facebook site there are a couple of pics from today.

Have to say, watching the snow clearance operations on Saturday afternoon from across the dock while waiting for the DLR, I didn't realise that LCY had so much snow-clearing kit. Three customised combined units with blades, and a trailer behind (presumably with de-icer), operating in echelon. There's also what must be a snowblower that we can hear from the house about a mile away.
Is this all new equipment ?

London City timetable page for NYC is advertising BA to New York on the A318 from £345.15
** Prices include taxes and charges
Odd then that the price is supposed to be £3415 which is the quote on a dummy booking! Surely someone didn't go "It can't be that expensive and do some editing....!

The same page says that the time difference in New York is "GMT -300 minutes". I can't say I have ever known that method of representing it before.
Who remembers the good old days when London City actually employed staff who knew what they were doing ?

Flight increase legal appeal - City Airport wins
The Appeal Court has determined today that the appeal, by the self-styled "Fight the Flights" group, against the basis of the decision to allow an increase in the number of flights, is denied
BBC News - Residents lose City Airport flights court battle
So, airport can now move on with their plans as they proposed. Regarding the "residents", they appear to live much further away from the airport than I do, and none of my local neighbours is in any way concerned about the new limits on flight numbers.

Friends of the Earth continue their uninformed comments on aviation :
BBC News - Olympic cable car 'at risk from City Airport planes'
How low do they think aircraft are at 2 DME on a 5.5 degree approach (answer about 1,100 feet).
It's not as if this cablecar scheme is in any way needed through. There is a quite adequate one-change Underground/DLR link between the two points already. It serves no additional transport function at all. Which is probably why Friends of the Earth back it.

CityJet ground staff to ballot over strike action
Posted Friday, 11 February, 2011 - 13:19 by Gary Noakes
CityJet, Air France and KLM ground staff at London City airport are gearing up to strike next month, claiming they have not had a pay rise in real terms since 2008.
The airlines’ staff, who are employed by agency Aviation Resources, provide check-in and dispatch for the three carriers at the airport. Their union, the GMB, is set to approve an official strike ballot on Tuesday when its central executive council meets. An earlier consultative ballot found 97% in favour of action.
The union claims CityJet, which issues contracts on behalf of the three airlines, has refused above inflation pay rises for three years and claims some staff have suffered bullying. It also says recent mothers have been denied flexible working conditions.
GMB organiser Stephanie Attwood said the problem lay with CityJet, but that “other airlines could get caught in the crossfire”.
CityJet was unavailable for comment.
