You might be surprised to see how many tunnels already exist between east and west ! Anyone have access to any 1940's plans ?
Anyone know what the Jaguar is doing parked just north of the fireground ? Is there to be a gate Guardian when the AWPR link to the terminal is built or have the fire service invested in a more interesting fuselage to practice on ?

Don't forget the cycle way built at vast expense from the Airport into town - you cn hardly get moved on it for aircrew cycling into town at the end of a long hard day.......................

Dont believe BE are intending to drop the route as ABZLGW is fairly well used. It might have something to do with the rumoured closure of BA's LGW base- nothing other than a rumour but as we know sometimes these grapevine whispers do become a reality.
Having said that, it could just be that the number of passengers booking through BA are not as high as they wanted. I assume BA have to pay BE to codeshare??

On the codeshare BE receive most (if not all?) the fare paid on BA.com. BA will have code shared in the hope they would get some connecting pax.
Anyway the return flights on BA were always something ridiculous like £300 return.

Good news for ABZ, presumably on an E170? I think this route this stands a better chance than previous LCY offerings because at the end of the day BA is far more well known than previous operators.
Could this also be the day BMI operate their last ABZ-LHR?

Interesting news about BA & LCY today, & also the theories behind it's launch.
It was a route many businesses had said they wanted with offices in Aberdeen & Canary Wharf, & it last flew in 2001/early 2002, so hopefully with traffic on the up it will be well used - the BA name will undoubtedly help.
I too think it is partly to offset the loss of the bmi LHR rotations which will undoubtedly happen at the end of the summer if not earlier. The spokesman did say it would complement the existing BA offering to LHR, so I doubt if any BA's own rotations will be sacrificed.
Whether it puts off anyone from starting a competing LHR route remains to be seen. Will be fascinating to see whether SRB will put his words into deeds & uses any slots to an ABZ route...should he successfully bid of course.
Cityjet had said they were evaluating their own LCY service to ABZ but whether they will continue with this now CFE have announced their own service, I have my doubts that there would be sufficient traffic for both. However, they may still look to W12/13, having apparently been delayed from starting this summer due to restructuring.
For me, the nice relatively new E170 & the BA name will probably win the day on LCY.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Richard and brand awareness will win.
I think the reasons LCY hasn't worked in the past was due to it being a little stinking prop operated by a diddy airline up against fast jets down to LHR/LGW/LTN.

bmi Regional
The news & views have fluctuated between good & bad, but hopefully today's story will see an ultimately positive conclusion for all concerned:
BBC News - BMI Regional sale talks advance
Just the start of course. Getting your hands on the airline is one thing. Operating it to make money perhaps quite another. But the guys behind 'Granite' (well two of the three) have experience in running Business Air which I always thought was a well tightly run airline; the other equally so with Brit World. However what do they say? To make a small fortune in aviation...start with a large one!!
Say the bmiR deal is successfully concluded in the next couple of weeks. What might we expect to see at ABZ going forward? Will the existing domestics to MAN & NWI be maintained? There had been initial talk of a new London service, which I took to mean STN. Will they keep on EBJ & GRQ - neither of which fill an Embraer, but both high yielding. In Europe, where else could they go with the Embraers, given they tried AMS, BRU & KRS with the E135/145, none of which were kept on.
Would be interested to hear other views - I wish the best for bmiR.

Capt Dooney - one of the reasons is that the vast bulk of the Business Class/Full fare Economy passengers thru ABZ are oil field related- they are also regular travellers - 1-4 times a month is common
For historic reasons most of the oil companies where (and are) in W london and in the Reading - Guildford arc SW of London. thats where people live and that's where they travel to/from
International travelers to Houston, Dallas , etc want to interchange at LHR
City Airport is not convenient for any of these people and the finacial community are rare visitors to the Granite City
