Quote: "I was just checking prices for flights to London from Aberdeen return with BA next April 2013.
I was surprised to see so many choices 12 or 13 (not including the couple of London city flights thrown into the mix).
The usual flight numbers along with different flight numbers at different times.
This must be BA using the slots that have been spoken about.
12 flights is a lot in any one day I think.
I may have read it wrong but if I have someone will correct me!!
"

This is just the aggregation of the BA and former BD routes, which are all run by BA for now. Some of these will be hived off to another operaor under the slot release arrangements.

Dublin / 2983 / -46.0%

When Aer Lingus launched the route, I thought it was with the express aim principally of providing a seamless same day transfer on arrival at DUB into their T/ATL network.

So they decide to switch the timings from lunchtime to late afternoon so that on arrival at DUB at teatime, most of the EI T/ATL network has already left, meaning an overnight stop until the following day???

Truly, airlines' decisions utterly baffle me sometimes.

Yes and is it just me or can you only book to JFK? I tried Chicago, Orlando and Boston and it doesn't work.

The route really needs to be double daily IMO and not just have this seemingly useless evening departure that provides no TATL connections and is of no use to business folks heading for meetings or whatever.

Interestingly it reverts to the 1130 departure for Winter and then isn't bookable past then although I'm led to believe EI haven't released the schedules yet.

Well, since nothing's been posted for two weeks, here's another stat -
Air Traffic movements at Aberdeen topped 10,500 in May, the bussiest month in over three & a half years.

According to the CAA, the Air Transport Movements in May12 were 8,977 which is a 12.7% increase on May11. Just curious were the additional flights have come from.

Apparently, May movements consisted of 6539 Fixed wing and 3966 Rotary. I guess the CAA's figures wouldn't include training flights, ambulance flights etc, but that still leaves 50 a day unaccounted for! Dunno - just goes to show you can do anything with statistics!

Seen the P38 today, it went directly over head us.

Anyone know what the German registered 172 was doing this afternoon? Was performing orbits roughly from Cults area to the City centre area.

If you wait for the full CAA May figures you will find out

For example, from the FULL stats for (Aberdeen) April 2012 (table 3) you will see:

Total Movements = 9 513
Air Transport = 8 593
Positioning Flights = 351
Test & Training = 211
Other flights by Air Transport Operators = 8
Aero Club = 138
Private = 42
Military = 4
Business Aviation = 166

D-EFUC was carrying out a photograpic survey. It was buzzing around Inverurie a couple of months ago (is he aware of the 500' rule?) Expect aerial images of your house - available to purchase - in the next few weeks!!

My prayers to the young lady with cancer who was flown in direct from Mexico where she had been undergoing treatment. A great effort to raise the funds to fly her home. Glad the air ambulance made it in before the fog closed in.

BA today announced their schedule for W12 and it shows that we will be up to 8x daily on weekdays and an unspecified increase on weekends.

No 767s or anything exciting like that but could we see a few more A321s on the LHR runs? - they seem to have been dying out a little bit recently.

UPDATE: The new flight will be a daily 1330 departure from ABZ and will be BA1323.

So 8x daily on weekdays
6x on Saturdays
7x on Sundays

If this weather continues for much longer, we may see BA 767s - if only to clear what must be horrendous backlogs!

Will aberdeen ever get more than a cat1 ILS?

Days like this must surely put pressure on BAA to upgrade?!

The ILS is cat2 capable but the required supplementary airfield lighting isn't installed.

So realitively cheap then and it would only be needed on one end!

It wouldn't be hugely cheap or easy. Supplementary approach lighting, touchdown-zone lighting, taxiway centreline on the east side would be required. Also CAT2 holding points could be a problem at such a small airport. Maybe they missed an opportunity to install the TDZ lighting when they did the runway extension?

Airport Tweet:

Aberdeen Airport‏@ABZ_Airport

We had our busiest ever day yesterday and expect the 'summer getaway' to continue over the weekend. Have a good journey.

I don't blame the masses for wanting to get away from all this sh!t weather!!

Maybe slightly old news but it was being reported the oil/subsea sector (if I read it correctly) could grow by as much as 40% in the next two years.

Could this mean a few more Baku-esque routes on the horizon or maybe some rehashed garbage like X9 offered a few years ago.

RT's post #336 showed something wasn't right back then
