They'll probably not need to fill the plane with such a high yield route potentially, but 15 pax outbound is....a slow start. We'll see how the service develops as it's availability becomes more widely known in the oil & gas industry. Presume oil freight may also become a growing factor. We shall see indeed.

It seems the "official launch" of this service was today. Story on local BBC, Azer journos to the fore. Been a mix of 319 & 320 so far - it's supposed to be 319-operated, but I guess we'll see both types in operation.
Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce seems to think there will be sufficient demand. Proof of the pudding, as they say...

edit: There is a code share arrangement with T3.

Rotterdam
Not a scheduled service, but Loganair seem to have an oil charter to/from RTM until end of Oct. Maybe one day the persistent rumours of a scheduled route will come to pass!!
The LOG851/852 are charters for the Stena Spey just finished drilling on the Lagavulin field at about 63 degrees North at an incredible depth.

Unfortunately thay didn't find a lot and are plugging the hole so I don't know how long the charters will continue.
Is the RTM charter anything to do with the damaged Gryphon's repairs there?

Air Berlin
Could be, the Gryphon is meant to be out of commission for about a year, last I read.
Anyone know whether things are starting to pick up on the direct Baku route one month in? Would like to think those companies that send personnel to Azerbaijan are aware of the link by now. But is it worth their while using the direct route, or is it still better flying them via bmi (perks!)
The AB website shows on their map that you can fly from ABZ to:
Frankfurt
Berlin
Hamburg
Stuttgart
& outwith Germany:
Paris
Basel
Zurich
Vienna
Glasgow & Edinburgh are also shown as being served by AB, as is Newcastle.
The start of an exciting new era of european expansion at ABZ, in light of the ongoing runway extension, or do AB codeshare, & that in fact you have to fly via London to get to these destinations? Bit like the Flybe "connections" initiative, if that's still going.
Who knows...maybe AB are one of the airlines ABZ has been talking to??
As for direct routes, I could really only see FRA, perhaps HAM & STR having any possibility of success, if any direct route is pitched correctly in terms of frequency, fares, etc by any prospective airline.
My post is somewhat 'tongue in cheek'...but you never know...after all - for now - we have direct Baku & very few forecast that!!

Brilliant news for me being a traveller to Germany albeit Munich. Just been in to Lufthansa website and keyed a date for Nov and sure enough, shows a direct flight. Pretty good price as well.

I'd have thought that ABZ contributes more to bmi's LHR network than GLA did because of the energy sector in ABZ and in Central Asia/the Middle East. But those flows can easily be accomodated via FRA now
