I think they people who are in court should be facing terrorism charges. Or at least be charged with endangering flight safety.

I've got a suggestion for community service: spend a few days "electrician's training" connecting all the perimeter fences to the 240 volts mains.

They should connect the fence to all three phases so that you have 408Y240 and doing so should end the problem forever

Houston/Dubai/Baku

So will we be waiting forever (whatever the runway length, state of the carousel etc) for the above three "long haul" routes, that BAA say they are aiming for?

Houston: COA &/or KLM - how close were COA to launching B752/B739 ops across the Pond? Were City Star all talk at the time, or was their intention viable. We'll never know re X9 of course.

Dubai: Emirates???

Baku: ???

Lots of talk over the last few years...but with low oil prices here to stay awhile, doubt we'll see them as too many companies are too busy cost-cutting - in BOTH industries.

I found many years ago that if you simply accept that we will only ever have flights to London, Stavanger, Humberside and the regular 'costa del cheapo' then you will avoid the dissapointment. Do what most sensible people do, drive to Edinburgh or Glasgow...

If pax figs keep freefalling as they are doing throughout the land (& they will, for the forseeable) we'll be lucky to have HUY!!

Still - plenty of room for Donald Trump & his guests...

Lets be honest - BAA are not aiming for any long haul routes for ABZ! I doubt any of those would would work and perhaps BAA know that too?

If CityStar did start the route, all you would have needed is for one tech cancellation (which is entirely possible with one aircraft!) and the word in the business community would have been that you would be far better going through LHR, AMS etc.

I see Ryanair are bleating on the front page of the P&J that they would create a base in Aberdeen if the costs (& taxes) were lower, that's pretty standard fare from them.

Persuade the airport/region to lower costs/subsidise then make it difficult for the arport to generate revenue any other way due to the way Ryanair operates.

They don't want to rent any check in desks, they want to charge people to carry on anything bought in the airport shops if it does not fit in your small pre booked piece of hand baggage.

IMHO better off without them

Yup, saw that. BAA say talks with RYR have been "positive". Yeah, positively going nowhere - so much so that we have 4w to DUB & an axed LPL route.

RYR couldn't fill a 189 seat a/c in the better times at ABZ, they certainly can't fill one in the present climate - DUB has lost 50,000 pax from it's peak!!

The yield must still be OK...for now.

When Ryanair put stuff like this in the local press is usually a prelude to them reducing or pulling the route altogether. Given the passenger profile, tourists, stag and hen parties and the weak pound they are probably up against it. If BAA's charges are so bad why have they been expanding in EDI?

ATCO - surely an airside car is the solution??
I presume that you don't take your own car airside?
(.....& if you do - check the small print on your insurance!!)

NB Not familiar with ABZ layout so maybe a reason for this but comments on insurance stand!

Well make sure you & your colleagues keep your eyes open for those aeroplanes! Might be a bit pricey if you hit one & had to pick up the bill yourself!!!
I understand it has happened before (....which is why your insurance policy has an exclusion in it!)

I am gobsmacked that they weren't already searched? If the operating crew can't be trusted with a big yoghurt........

Car Searches

I understand that despite the car searches, the staff at the control tower are still smuggling in 50 litres of highly volatile fuel and a litre of sulphuric acid every time they go to work. They must have enough stuff to blow up half of Scotland by now!

Dublin

Garrygaz is spot on correct. RYR look like reducing DUB to 3w from June, dropping the Fri flight.

No wonder they are bleating about charges.

Not long now before O'Weary's mob pull out?
