Car searches
Interesting how you can get a tin of baked beans ripped off you for being dangerous, but the BP tanker with 10000L of highly flammable liquid get through nae bother.
If every car needs to be searched then get the sniffer dogs, and mirrors out.Lets do this for every car, lorry, catering van, tanker etc.
I'm not turning up for work any earlier,so if security want to get a bit serious, then they can expect their airport to close. If the on coming shift are getting the third degree at the gate, the out going shift are past their end of shift time, and probably SCRATCOH limit, and are entitled to go home.Airport closed.

Posting after the pub?

I dont think its NATS fault, why should they tolerate an employee not showing up for work on time? Don't think security will care if the airport closes.
If there is going to be a problem it might be best to NOTAM the shift change over time so we know the airspace is closed, when do you change shifts?

And what pub would that be then BB?
For your information people are already being held up at security for ages behind contractors and the rest. The staffing at some start times is so tight that any extra delay at security means they are very restricted on time.If they are late then it's a SCRATCOH bust.We often get calls from staff who were early, but are now late because of security.
My roster might say I start at say 8 am for example.I already have to be in well before that time to brief ,with the multitude of changes that happen daily.Just what time would you suggest that I pitch up,not knowing the delay at security, and then they dismantle my car looking for a tin of custard.
PS Your last statement isn't even English.Be careful falsely accusing people of being in the pub, when you don't make sense yourself.

Dyce is spot on.....we have ALWAYS had our cars searched....what I meant was even the engines are being checked in EVERY car now.....wheel arches etc....
Dyce is totally correct ......somedays we have to queue for ages at security....other days we dont.....some days we have 5 contractors in front of us....somedays none.....so why should we have to use our psychic powers outside work and try to work out how much extra time to leave to get into work once we have negotiated the monday to friday traffic that we're not used to......only to queue again to get airside.....
Didn't our colleagues at a big London airfield get a good payout for having to move towers and therefore go through more security than normal....

re-security at post 2
Why on earth do you guys keep moaning about the security at post 2??
Do you honestly think we enjoy the extra searches to vehicles on top of what is done already??
It is the DFT that come up with the new rules that we HAVE to adhere to whether we or you like it or not.
When you get new rules or phraseology to adhere to in the tower (like you have done lately) you probably don't like it but you HAVE to do it cos it's the rules.
You really need to think about what you say before posting
At the end of the day if you're not happy get another job cos the way things are going it'll probably get worse.
Rant over

TE, I don't people are having a go at you guys, fully understand its goverment that are forcing all this, just laughable at some of the rules and loop holes! ie, when I used to take set honey through, some would let me, some wouldn't, and I confused the hell out of the duty supervisor when I wanted to know exactly what constitutes a solid, and what viscosity does something have to be!!!! If I take a jar of sauce with me, it gets taken away, but pour it on pasta and hey presto, I'm allowed! Out of interest, what checks are done on tankers of aviation fuel/ de icing fluid to make sure that there is nothing that shouldn't be in there???

Why would anyone wanting to breach security spend time developing a method to hide something from security during a vehicle search when all they need to do is cut a hole in the fence and walk through

The stupidity of it all is, yes 28000 ltrs JA1 in the tank is no problem, but an aerosol can of de-icer in the cab? That's a problem. Its not security's fault it's badly thought out government regulation.

I'd always thought the security at either Post 2, Broomfield or Passenger search was fairly hassle free. Then again i do have to deal with HIAL security on a regular basis and sets of rules that appear to leave a lot of room for artistic licence on the staff's behalf And i only ever pass through post 2 in the deed of night!

Bristow
See being reported they are looking at job losses, wonder where will be hit worst?
I have as much chance of winning the Lottery as this Govt has of helping mitigate the losses in the oil industry due to the Downturn.
Bristow hope to keep compulsory losses to a minimum .

Changes to OSL
Didn't take long for Eastern to change! Believe only Fri is now a direct flight, M-Th OSL is an extension of the SVG flight. Fact that they can fit OSL pax into space on the SVG flight tells me the take up cannot be that great. Anyway, makes sense for T3 to do this of course, otherwise there would be no flight to OSL at all, something that the business community were bemoaning the lack of after City Star went tits up. Oh, I forgot, there's a Credit Crunch, isn't there?
Speaking of "extension" P&J has in its strapline for next week's news that they will cover the news re "work starting on the runway extension". Maybe they know something we don't, as I thought BAA had said they were "waiting for Goddo". Or the man at Ferrovial.

More likely to have been an A321 as 757's are banned from T5 due non-containerised. Are you sure it was a 757?
