Maybe flybe on their embraer jets could take it up, they are starting from
Other city's soon and the lcy route seems pretty established with good load factors

flybe's Embaers E175 and E195 and they are not certified to be used for steep approach airports like LCY.

Looking at the recent LCY figures .. they've been 80%+ and Virgin have been 60%+ lately as well.
Can't figure why they're dropping LCY.
Would a Saab 2000 really take 30 min longer on ABZ-LCY?
They file 15 min longer on their FPL's.
I agree the price may increase, but isn't it mostly a business route?
And now that Eastern have the LCY experience....

BA to LCY

I can't see past the feeling that LCY has been dropped as its biggest rival was BA to LHR.

New route

Reported in local radio news - new route to Geneva with Easyjet.

Starts 13 Dec, airline hoping for 3,500 pax over the winter.

Presume winter only running to Apr, but have no more details so far.

Good news and excellent to see expansion from EasyJet no matter how small.

3,500 pax estimated to use it which equates to roughly 70% loads. Personally I reckon this will be surpassed. A lot of people go on ski holidays from up here and may attract people from a little further afield as well.

Will be interesting to see if EZY have anything else planned for the Summer months e.g. ALC

Yes, they were operated by Luxair before the arrivals of the DHC8-Q402s.
Still no word on London City then, 100,000 pax route needs to be flown
If it's that good a route someone will pick it up, but I was surprised BA tried it as there's not really the financial services traffic to make it pay out of high cost LCY.

Yes they are, Luxair used to fly the 135 there before switching to Q400's.

But honestly, I can't see there being any takers for LCY. I'd go as far to say if BA couldn't make it work, no one can.

BA, VS & EZY can all absorb the end of this service with their current services by up-gauging or increasing frequency.

I think ba can and have made it work, I think he reason is been cancelled it's aircraft shortage plus Edinburgh/Glasgow and Dublin have much lower fees than Aberdeen, plus no apd at Dublin so larger profit if charging same prices, maybe independence with lower apd be a good thing for Scotland and especially aberdeen, allow us to compete on a more level platform,

Doubt it. There is still slack in the fleet and more route changes are to follow. ABZ could have continued if it had been worthwhile.

Where's the slack in the fleet? Looks fully used to me except nights and weekends? Will the charters continue by BACF next summer?

The ERJ135 requires a steep approach kit both Luxair and Magic had these, bmir does not, it can be retrofitted but its expensive and i seem to recall that LCY -ABZ was performance limited on the 135 North bound unless the runway was wet (lower screen height ?)

LoCo starting Update ?

Anyone heard any more about a LoCo opening in ABZ by the end of the year ? As there was no mention of ABZ in the recent Ryanair announcement about GLA and PWK I doubt it will be them, but not heard anymore about "New Globespan" either so maybe that's been shelved as well ??

BA CityFlyer dropping ABZ-LCY has just been raised in Parliament at PMQs as the threat to this "lifeline" is raised in the second highest debating chamber in the land!!!
The local MP was annoyed that services were being increased to Glasgow and Edinburgh at the expense of his own backyard, er I mean constituency.

I think the PM should (somehow) make British Airways reconsider immediately, which is exactly how these things work....in the heads of numpties who've never had to balance the books at the end of the year!!!!!
