July traffic
July got 366,600 pax, up 9.2%
Don't discount Riga yet, also with a new owner by end of the year hopefully be greater chance of more airlines operating instead of less

BA
Does anyone have an idea of how well BA have been doing on the LHR of late?
My last few flights on the route have been pretty pathetically loaded, currently sat on the 1318 with just 80 pax on the A321.
Admittedly they've all been this Tuesday evening flight so it could just be a weak rotation but if someone has better insight it would be good to hear!

RIX
I was on the RIX to ABZ last Wednesday. Economy was full or very close to it. However all 16 seats in business class cabin were empty. I guess that's where the issue lies in terms of the possibly uncertain future of the route.
Similar story on the ABZ to RIX two weeks earlier - economy approx 80% full, but again not a single passenger in business.
Will be a shame if it doesn't return next year.

ABZ's registered office from GLA to ABZ might accelerate things.?

Good set of stats there Capt D... I'm especially pleased to see CDG on the increase, as it was suffering vs. the other hubs.
If av. loads on RIX are 106, it would be a great shame not to see it back in some capacity.
A record month on many routes is excellent.

ABZ beginning to put it's sister airport @GLA in the shade. Perhaps a shift of ABZ's registered office from GLA to ABZ might accelerate things.?

Really good news, interesting to note that even though Sunday evening flights are always busy, it's amazing the numbers.
Virgin 170
Ba 165
Lufthansa 132 100% full on a319, bigger than 735
Klm 122
Air France 75
Flyer 73, only 76 seats
Bmi 3 flights 95% full
Birmingham/Manchester 95% full
Luton 177 pax, upgraded a320
Gatwick 156 pax, a319, 100% full
And today's Riga had 124 pax inbound on a 733.
Shows airport doing well numbers wise, not so good infrastructure wise,
More stands, bigger terminal, and bigger capacity and Aberdeen will be 4 million plus next year 6 years ahead of schedule according to master plan,
Looks like someone needs to redo the plans quick smart
Don't forget the baggage belts and longer runway

SAS: SVG-IAH
I noticed SAS were advertising the route heavily in the local press in the run up to the commencement of the route - think starts tomorrow?
Will be interesting to see just how many take the trip across the N.Sea to SVG to link up with the flight, and how this may affect IAH links on the existing hubs.

I can't see there being much of a loss for the hub carriers to the SVG service. Quite a few of the regulars have their FF schemes to help maintain loyalty and the rest are price driven.
Not sure if the 737 has been refurbished inside but if it's similar to the one KLM used to run between AMS-IAH then it looks to be an underwhelming experience onboard.
Finally the pessimist inside me tells me this won't last forever, just look at the many failed all J airlines. BA are about the only one and that's running between two of the biggest financial markets in the world! Singapore airlines chopped and changed configs continually, Maxjet, SilverJet etc were all disasters. I'm sure the cringeworthy clichéd names didnae help either!

Klm/Lufthansa
It's been noted that especially during the summer season of late that both the klm 737 rotations and Lufthansa a319 rotations have been running near enough 100% full,
Wondering if the airlines have any scope to upgrade the service to a 738/9 or a320/321 respectively.
Be interesting whether next year there may be a possibility of a 4th daily rotation for Frankfurt and an increase to 6x daily for Amsterdam on larger Aircraft since both routes are performing extremely well.
Klms 737 seat 122 compared to a 738 (164)
Lufthansa a319 seat 138 compared to a320 (168)

Both carriers have been incrementally increasing capacity/frequency for a while now.
KLM have been toying with 6x lately with an additional late afternoon service on a Sunday only. They tried this a couple of years ago but pulled it back shortly after but what with the stronger economy now it will work better I suspect so could be on the cards for S15.
Frequency is more important than capacity really for a hub carrier which is why they don't just run a couple of 777's to AMS each day.
Capacity dumping will just lead to more cheap seats and turning into the Pot-Shuttle which KL aren't really interested in.
Lufthansa tend to be quite acutely seasonal at ABZ. And it shows with it reducing to 2x daily and being operated by the CityLine E190's. For next summer the A319 is scheduled for S14 and is probably adequate with the odd A320 showing up every now and again I imagine.
When the service first launched there was a 9.30ish departure ex ABZ (now 12.30) which could be a good time for them to add a fourth daily but can't see it happening in the near future but if so I suspect it will be around this time.

last couple of trips were only about half full - except the last flight from LHR which can't have been more than 25% full -but it's the school hols so you'd expect a fall-off

Ferrovial
Noticed the local paper this morning is saying Ferrovial have 'clinched' the deal for ABZ, GLA & SOU airports, despite an 11th hour increased offer by the ZUR-led consortium for ABZ.
Ferrovial outpriced them apparently & ZUR said any higher bid could have led to reduced investment plans they had for the airport.
Not much else in the story - just a 'rehash' of previous stories on the subject.
So I guess it's Spanish Ayes, & we await the official announcement - & what Ferrovial plan to do now they have their hands on the airports.

In regards to the ba question, recent overall loads have been about 80%, so not too bad, Aberdeen got voted nearly the worst airport in the uk for baggage reclaim, security, seating area, food outlets and terminal, hmmm tell us something that we don't know, hopefully management get this as well and pull their fingers out,
Shame about Zurich, was hoping for a one owner and thus more attention and investment focused on Aberdeen instead of the usual focus on the main airport and forget about the north east all together
