Havenīt Ryanair just thrown the toys out of the pram at Budapest because they could not get their own way with the management regarding costs. I would suggest Wizz see an opportunity here especially if they have a good long term deal which has been in place for some time.

Depending on whom you believe, either because costs were too high or for the good old-fashioned reason that the routes weren't performing.

Daniel de Carvalho, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air, said: "We've been approached by Manchester but we're very focused on working with Liverpool and Doncaster. We may increase frequencies and routes and we're also looking to increase our presence in London - in Luton we're the second airline."
Dont ye just love Manchester

Indeed; if it wasn't for Manchester, Liverpool might actually have been the side making money on the contract instead of the other way round.

Oh, those mischievous people down the M56.

Still, keeps footfall through Liverpool, which can only be good for the retail outlets who still have to pay rent.

They've had a big dispute with Modlin's management regarding the failure of the airport to properly install an ILS system as scheduled and to re-compensate Wizz for the money its had to pay out. Look how much money Wizz have lost due to the continuing disruption of the failure of the management to install the ILS. Getting further away from Ryanair also helps though.

I have a ticket to fly BUD-WMI in less than two weeks but after the change. I paid for it litterally 1 eur. So am I entitled to 250 eur compensation now?

They must feel really desperade to change airports in less than 2 weeks cancelation notice timeframe.

Alm - you might be entitled to submit a written claim for the cost of public transport between the 2 airports, making sure to attach original tickets / receipts for proof of fare.
As to 250 euros, there's more gold at the end of the rainbow. :-)

Ryanair were looking for a substantial increase as well. It's to be expected that Eindhoven would look after their own (Transavia)

W6 will cancel 3 routes from Cork from 13th January: Wroclaw, Modlin and Vilnuis

FR and W6 both fly these routes.

FR announced new base at EIN - don't think we will see W6 there expanding.

EIN

Don't think W6 was looking for a base at EIN. I think they are looking to make EIN like LTN is for them as well. With W turns and routes to non-bases as Split, Burgas and Varna. Problems with EIN is that slots are very limited and opening times are very strict. Ryanair basing one 1 aircraft is for the exact same reason. Transavia received the only two 07.00 departure slots, while Ryanair got the next available slot at 08.00. It looks like W6 losing some early slots at EIN to FR. W12/13 they have 08.05 Brno, 08.45 Riga and 08.45 Debrecen. In the S13 schedule the earliest W6 departures from EIN are around 09.00.

W6 received around 100 extra slots for S13 and they will open the Eindhoven - Cluj-Napoca route and it looks like they are closing the Eindhoven-Prague route in January. So, the slots will be used for the freq. increase on Eindhoven-Budapest as posted above.

EIN

Looking for links to The Netherlands, couldn't Wizz try to substitute some routes with Maastricht (MST) as a destination, wouldn't there be more slots available?

EIndhoven is a bit of a trek but not too far from the Randstad. It's a long way (and expensive by public transport) from the major Dutch population centres to Maastricht just for the sake of flying somewhere else.

MST

I've flow with Ryanair 5 times to/from Maastricht and it's a very long journey from Utrecht where I live. Even with free public transport to the airport for me as a student, I think twice before booking a ticket from Maastricht. Maastricht's market is more a combination of pax from Southern Netherlands, Belgians and lots of Germans. I think MST would do very well for W6, but would serve a different market then Eindhoven. MST is too far from the Randstad (Amsterdam especially). I think routes to Poland (GDN or WMI) and Hungary (BUD) could work for them.

MST doesn't bring in a lot of tourists for Maastricht itself. That's why the tourist board is promoting a visit to Maastricht or Valkenburg and the province of Limburg. They are well worth a visit, but very unknown.

Warsaw operations from WMI to WAW (17 dec till 6 jan)

Wizz is fed up with all the problems at Warsaw Modlin and is moving all its operations to Warsaw Chopin:

Following weeks of continual distruption at Warsaw Modlin Airport, Wizz Air, the largest low-cost, low-fare airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today has taken the unprecedented decision to move all its Christmas operations from midnight 17th December until midnight 6th January from Modlin Airport (WMI) to Warsaw Chopin (WAW). This will assure normal winter operations over the Christmas peak travel period for over 55,000 passengers who otherwise would be subject to Modlin Airport’s lack of ILS infrastructure and massive flight disruptions and cancellations.
