Wizz needed to do this because they were getting hit more than Ryanair due to the situation at Modlin, as they base quite a few aircraft at WMI and don't have much slack in their fleet compared to FR. With FR not having a base at WMI it is much easier to direct aircraft elsewhere and operate them from Lodz or Warsaw without mass scale disruption.

What they did with me a few weeks back is that my flight from WMI to DUB was delayed by a few hours and operated from WAW and they transported us all up there. The same DUB based crew were set to do a couple of other flights that day, short ones I believed, but they both ran on time as another 737-800 and crew were drafted in to do the rest of the duty.

With Wizz they have the problem that almost all routes from WMI are using Warsaw based crew and planes, some of which have been stuck on the ground for the whole day and all of the routes are to non based pretty much apart from Budapest, also with by far less spare aircraft free as they are not grounding any during the winter, it's very hard to keep diverting flights and it not badly effecting them. The fact that pretty much all W6 flights from Warsaw are WMI crew is the biggest problem for them.

Generally what has been illustrated the past few days is that Wizz have cancelled a higher percentage than Ryanair, who appear to not cancel anything from morning to mid afternoon. But most of the Ryanair late flights are the ones that seem to be cancelled, I know that during the full days of disruption, the availability of buses in the afternoon has been a problem as well for both FR and W6.

WizzAir could leave Lithuania. The carrier will consider such decision if Lithuanian minister's plans to shift the low-cost flights from Vilnius back to Kaunas realize. And indeed, the possible hike in prices in VNO could re-arrange also Ryanair's network in this (beautiful) country.

Don't know too much about the aviation policies of the Ukrainian administration but if the judicial system is anything to go by I don't see Wizz Ukraine getting nearly any of those highly lucrative routes at least not in the short-term.

Forlė Airport (FRL) is not to be closed.
The issue behind the relocation of all Wizzair flights is this airport now finds itself almost financially bankrupt. They will proceed to lay off most of the staff soon.

Its fate will be decided by the Italian CAA in the next few months.
After a European call for tender for the reliance of this airport, no buyers were found (although the deadline for the offers was postponed at least a couple of times), hence they have to decide whether this facility can remain open for commercial flights.

Similar concerns may also involve nearby Rimini airport, which is actually undergoing financial issues. Ryanair has already ceased all flights to/from RMI last year, as the airport could no longer fulfill its contractual obligations towards the low-cost airline. This airport now relies mostly on summer charter flights from CIS Federation, Germany and Benelux and outgoing holiday flights to Egypt and Greek islands. Year-round scheduled ops. are limited to regional flights to Rome/Fiumicino and Tirana. Rumor has it Bologna airport is now trying to lure some Russian airlines away from RMI.

Wizzair has been finally cleared to begin flights from Bosnia-Herzegovina.
They have chosen Tuzla airport as their first Bosnian destination. Flights to Malmo (Sweden) will be offered two times weekly by the end of May and are already on sale.
So far this airport has only boasted summer charter flights to Antalya and struggled to attract scheduled business. Two years ago, Air Arabia tried to launch chartered flights to Sharjah (UAE), but lasted only a couple of weeks due to weak demand.

Wizzair has also added another Scandinavian link from its Skopje base: they will now serve Goteborg/City, 2 times weekly, from May 31st.

They will however cease all flights from Lodz by the same date. As a result, Luton service will be terminated, leaving Ryanair as the only operator to UK.
