Wizzair
I expect that Ryanair will do nothing (publicly) until the end of August when the Wizz trial has finished. Assuming nothing goes too badly wrong, Ryanair would find this kind of revenue very tempting.
I imagine Ryanair will have a trial in place before the end of 2012 - it'll be accompanied with a big fanfare about allowing Ryanair to then charge the public even lower fares.
This new charging method was bound to happen - I'm just surprised it took so long for the idea to migrate from North America to Europe.

Alternatively Ryanair may launch a campaign directed at wizzair (they are big in Poland) saying that they do not charge for Carry on luggage. In my opinion this will have a better affect.

Does anyone know how Wizzair stands in Serbia? Is Belgrade base profitable or not? I traveled to Rome in June and at both flights the loads were about 70%. Is this enough to not make loses? I do wish for them to make a success becouse the domestic airliner JAT have lowered their prices considerebly in last 2 years. Wizzair, as i know it, havn't yet announced restrictions of flights during the winter. Is there any chance to open route for Spain? But not bad alternative is flight from Timosoara becouse it's near the border.

DublinPole - from a general economics point of view, why is Wizz charging for large items of hand luggage such a bad idea ?
Currently, putting a large item of luggage in the hold costs money. Carrying on hand luggage is free. Demand for hand luggage space sometimes exceeds the available space in overhead bins and those belonging to others have to go in the main hold.
The only people paying are those who check hold bags in at the airport. Thus, those who pay to check in large items of hold luggage are effectively subsidising those with large items of hand luggage.
The obvious thing to do, is rebalance the hand luggage cost scale, by imposing a small charge on larger items of hand luggage, which would encourage people to assess more carefully what they really need to take with them and maybe shrink their luggage, or possibly take a larger suitcase but put it in the hold instead. Luggage costs become less arbitrary and closer to a "pay for what you use" scheme.
In a theoretically ideal world, one would pay for hand luggage by both litre of volume and kg of weight - the larger and heavier the piece of hand luggage, the more one should pay - similiar to the way that postage of letters / parcels is graded by weight.
Of course, in a real world, it becomes complex to have too many gradations or too measure all bags exactly, so one has to instead label bags as small (free), medium (cheap cost) or large (expensive).

Polish Domestic Routes?
Just wondering why Wizz hasn't looked at Polish domestic routes yet, LOT have it to themselves. Couldn't see why a Warsaw/Modlin - Katowice route wouldn't work? maybe predicted Low yields?
Unlike some other domestic Polish routes, Warsaw - Katowice and Warsaw - Krakow are well served by train - takes about 2h45 and runs approx every hour, so air would have a very difficult job competing on a p2p basis, especially to Modlin rather than Chopin
Warsaw-Gdansk, Warsaw-Szcecin or Warsaw-Wroclaw or routes not touching Warsaw is a different story...

Warsaw - Krakow flights used to be very well supported. I used the route a couple of hundred times.Several flights per day including B737's,ATR's and Embraers.
I think Warsaw Central station puts a lot of people off and is a fair way from the airport for inbound pax.The inter-city can be less than 3hrs but the express and the rest can be up to 5 hrs. A nightmare guessing the correct platform sometimes with a last minute change then a mad dash with the mob up the huge broken escalator with a heavy suitcase to another platform.
I also have been on trains with about 6 inches of snow in the carriage.
Longest journey time 13 hrs caused by frozen overhead cables which is not uncommon.Pretty grim in Winter, it made you feel like an extra in Schindlers List. The often white knuckle ride by air was a better choice.

It went unnoticed so far, but Wizz has been recently granted Malev-inherited rights to fly to Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg), Ukraine (its subsidiary already flying) and Israel (TLV). In my view, it gives W6 some great opportunities and advantages in the region.

It's a pity they don't come to Manchester with a MAN - IEV or even a LPL - IEV, when I flew to KBP in July I was surprised how many passengers where from the North West, I think if they did either service it would be well used.
Otherwise we have to endure either a car journey to LTN or flying to LHR (then an overnight stay) or LGW (with terminal transfers).
I will wait another month to see if the MAN rumours are true before booking my next flights via LHR.

The rumour of WIZZ to MAN is very unlikely to happen. They have just signed new contracts with LPL and DSA and are planning more routes from Liverpool (not sure about DSA though).
