Are you mad?
From my understanding there are very few jobs available. Infact in all my searching i've come across only 3 jobs that were actually advertised, the east mids position, gurnsey, one though BAE systems. If you consider 20 odd controllers and only 3 posts advertised, the rest of the jobs will be sought on a who you know basis, to see if someone can make some space in their budget to accept someone early for a position.
I think you will find at least half who won't get another job for a long while.
Just because there are alot of airports does not mean there are alot of controller jobs

Not all jobs are advertised! I speculatively rang 2 airports this morning enquiring about possible vacancies for experienced controllers both said they would be willing to take me on subject to salary expectations.
There are also plenty of jobs overseas, DFS (Germany) are desperate to recruit experienced controllers, as are the Swiss. Then there's the Middle East.
Plenty of jobs out there ATCO's are a commodity that is in short supply.

Clearly what i know it wrong then. I was aware of plenty of jobs overseas but were talking about jobs locally or even jobs UK wide. I can't see there being enough jobs for all those controllers and staff! Perhaps if you've been in it for 20 years and have built up alot of contacts and someone is willing to make a position for you but i can't see everyone having that same benefit. Plus you would struggle to find 20 big airports to take on controllers that each would have to create a post for (which wasn't advertised).

A lot a airfields have a few ATCO's retiring in the next couple of years ,so would snap up any experienced ATCO's. Recession or no recession there is still a shortage.

Well certinally from my experience that is not the case! A couple of ATCO's retiring is not enough.
I know most of the controllers left at Coventry are having to hold out for it.

Hello again
Oh dear
Touched another nerve, i am pleased i fulfilled your wishes!
I was simply commenting that no commercial airline operation has been sustained there, and that flying clubs cannot support an airport, it then becomes an airfield!
I am sure with your greater experience you have a list of real airlines just waiting for ATC coverage to commence operations?
perhaps you would care to share this list, i will gladly eat humble pie!
No demand, no passengers, no catchment area, but get ATC back?

Why is everyone hung up on airlines? It just goes to show your naievity if you think Coventry needs an airline to survive. An airline is the last thing they want.
If you had any idea of the costs of operating just to attract airlines in you would see its a rediculous avenue to go down when Coventry could in no way be competitve against someone like Birmingham.
There is plenty of traffic out there and had the company running the airport not been in such a state with build up debts then the airport was actually doing pretty well. Just not well enough to cope with a backlog of unpaid tax.

!!!doing pretty well!!! What planet are you on? Paying you tax bills is unfortunately something you have to do. We'd all be doing 'pretty well' if we didn't pay tax (those of us still with jobs, at least)
And they were otherwise running the airport 'pretty well' were they! ha ha.

No company could easily pay off millions of pounds worth of debt. If they didn't have the debt then they wouldn't have gone down the pan just yet. However no doubt the company running it was crap. But what they had going taken over by a new company (like what Sir P and the Swiss were looking to do) would have continued to work and be built on. You don't need to make any drastic changes, they were going in the right direction but too little too late on the money front.

I'm going down the Oak tomorrow lunchtime so will see if anybody got any gossip. Council source is on holiday this week and she isn't back until Monday so maybe PR will be back then too.
