I dont think he intends to get a return on the investment from the airport income. Clearly that has been tried and failed several times. Its the adjacent site redevelopment that stands a chance of making him big money and I suppose he's taking a punt on getting planning permission and an upturn in the market

Ownership?
I still can't figure out if he has bought the freehold outright to the whole site or is just leasing it as an 'airport operator' from the council.
Anybody enlighten me?

Ownership
I have no reason to believe the deal that Sir Peter has done is on any other basis than the ones that have gone before or planned with ADP ("the Swiss"). That is that the site is on a long term lease from the Council with the Council still owning the freehold and also, I think, some buildings and even some of the navaids.
It seems to be the Council policy generally (away from the airport) that it does not sell land and buildings but leases them out.

Oh its just so sad to see the totally anti CVT airport local MP, James Plsskitt has just lost his seat. Ha ha
It wont make a huge difference to the new regime, but it sickened me to see him tub thumping every time something negative was mentioned in the press about the airport, in order for him to try to gain favour with his parishioners.
All good things come to those who wait, bye Mr Plaskitt so long you wont be missed

SASK - To answer your questions
1.Its no use comparing the US,New Zealand etc - Different countries with different regulations.
2. Birmingham and East Mids would not do it without being payed for it.
3. There has been a tightning up of the RFFS regulations over the last year so
i do not think they would accept a adhoc arrangement.

G-RICH ATC RESTORED
Do you think the ANSP they are talking to, have a bunch of ATCO's just sat waiting,
from what i hear over half of the original ATCO's have moved on elsewhere.
You can apply the 4-6 months to both situations i think you'll find.

As long as you can accept an unlicensed airfield, there should be no problem. Prior permission required from 02476 308601
By the way, it is "Airbase" which is the new visitor centre of Air Atlantique Classic Flight.

Western Car Park Attraction.... or just a bad landing ?
Can anyone shed any light on how the Supermarine Swift (well I THINK that is what it is) got into the Western Car Park please ? Most importantly has it got a permit to park..... let alone a permit to fly ? Is this now competition for Air Atlantique's new Airbase ?
No sign of the pilot or the ejection seat. I went round to the Oak but nobody saw a thing ? They thought I had had one sherbert too many until they looked themselves !!

I flew up for the Nimrod delivery. Called the number in the NOTAMS, who basically said "It's unlicensed, knock yourself out, don't break anything". Very easy, park where you want, no over officious safety bods whining at you for not wearing a hi viz. Such a shame a nice long unlicensed runway is about to be ruined by spoilsports from the CAA

When will it be back up and running?
When will the airport actually be back up and running now? Understand a new ATC set-up is planned but what about fire & rescue cover?
Best guess from when it was purchased was that it might take say three or four months for all the boxes to be ticked by the CAA, NATS etc. before being a licensed airfield again.
Any ideas on intent for hours of operations when it first re-starts as a licensed airfield?

Nav3, the new jet arrival is a Hawker Hunter from Kemble. It arrived by low loader.
x933, what did you fly in with? There was a nice little Chipmunk came and parked behind us in the Shackleton at one point... was that you?
Regards,
Rich
