I know, why dont they send a couple of mangers to an aviation business conference to look for prospective work and when they get there they can just get drunk and enjoy themselves at the cost of the employees careers - time to get rid of very unprofessional managers (which is not every manager), who have for years treated their responsibilities as a meal ticket.
Just another number

Does anyone know if the MIDLAND AIR MUSEUM owns the land, or is it on airport property? It would be a shame to lose this fine collection.

Hmmm
Well I hope Birmingham are happy, they have always seen CVT as a pain in the rear end !! - I remember the spectaular airshows in the 70's 80's and part of the 90's, Rumour has it BHX put the boot in there.
Coventry was a great airfield, I learned to fly there and have fond memories of the place ! -
TUI didnt really give a toss in the end about it and the locals helped decide the fate of it by opposing everything that was promising about the place. I hope they will enjoy the juggernaughts driving through their precious villages all hours of the day and night when somebody turns it into a massive industrial site !!
I wonder what the legendary Ron Webster (sadly deceased) would have made of it all - he would have told them all straight, well sort of

The Midland Air Museum is on land which is completely seperate from airport land...
It just happened to be conveniently next to it - never a part of it, so it's perfectly safe!

It would be a crime if CVT was taken out of use as an airport. Just like the decommissioning of the railways in this country, the infrastructure is too expensive to replace once it's gone. We'll be left with nothing, and no government or local authority seems able to see the bigger picture or to take a long term view.

I was in CVT Airport yesterday.
The AD closed without prior notice at 10.00 local. The administration board had suspended all AIR side operations. So all aircrafts couldn't takeoff nor land. For this reason CAA gave 1 hour window re-opening to CVT, as unlicensed AD, to allow all Operators to move their a/c. The window opened at 14.00 and closed at 15.00; between these times 20-25 a/c left CVT. After 15.00 AD closed as stated in the NOTAMs. From Tuesday at 8.00 until the 14th of December (estimated), CVT will be available as unlicensed aerodrome, as stated in a new issue of the NOTAMs. For the reason of being an unlicensed strip, no service will be granted (Fire, Fuel, Airside Ops), and the airfield at the moment is not suitable for flight traning or commercial operations.
Unfortunatly not everyone, was here today to move their a/c; so a good number of them are still on the ground, but as private a/c not engaged in commercial OPS, they will be able to use the AD at their own risk as unlicensed. By the way on the South Apron, there is still a jet a/c.
All ATC services (TWR & RAD) have been suspended. Birmingham APP/RAD will take care of the airspace for the time being.
Almat, Atlantic Flight Training and CVT Flight School, have moved their aircraft at EGBW. AFT is believed to resume training flights from EGBW from tomorrow.
Atlantic Airlines had moved their a/c already on Monday night (3 atps and 1 B737), probably expecting such a decision from the administration board.
RVL moved to Birmingham
1 of the 3 DC Dakota based in CVT has left, probably to land in EGBW.
The AD is still fully open on the LAND side, and all LAND side operations are still running, as before.
On Wednesday the high court will decide on CVT present situation.
The future of the Airport is unknown.

Closure
I would be amazed if the airport does not get taken on as a going concern.
Perhaps it will emerge stronger although no comfort to the employees at the moment.

At the end of the day the even those biased green eyed observers should recognise that the airport was badly run and had absolutely no decent infrastructure or transport access.
Top that up with a recession that is hitting all aspects of aviation really heavily and you get the perfect storm that has shut CVT.
It's all too easy to think that CVT would not be in exactly the same position even had they got the planning go ahead.
Even the large airports are struggling to break even this financial year.
None of this really matters to those affected. It's going to be a grim Christmas....Let's hope there are still some miracles left eh????

Coventry City Council who owned the airport until the mid 90's have always supported the airport.
There are a lot of good people who relied on the airport for their living both in ATC and elsewhere and I hope for their sakes that something is sorted out to re-open the place and make it viable.

A very sad day, CVT will always hold close to me. The boom of TUI taking over and the management team employed who sweated blood for it and delivered in excess of 600k pax in the first year. Unfortunately when they sold it to what can only be described as pathetic amateurs who ruined the Airport and the MD who took over, Mr Uff n Puff orphaniage (god for bid this joker ever gets a job in aviation again) drove it to destruction as his aviation knowledge was limited at best.
The potential whilst not huge would have complemented BHX as a small reginal airport and as a cargo stroke biz hub positioned itself nicely has all but been lost.
Forggeting the I told you so speech which is why I left I feel so sorry for the staff who are now in an awful situation. I sincerely hope it works out for you and a recovery package is put in place.
Good luck CVT...

coventry airport
unfortunatly coventry airport has been run by the wrong people for far too long. they have managers there who float form one poorly run position to the next without every facing the consequences for not being good enough at their jobs.
also who did all the research to justify spending thousands (just after they had binned off a load of loyal staff) to build an f.b.o that no clients have used because they just wanted to be picked up off the apron, and who decided on the amazing new opening hours (that just happened to exlude the airports limited cargo customers).
all in all coventry airport = poorly managed by managers who bled a great little airport dry.
