BBC reporting Coventry airport to close 'indefinitely'
Just heard on BBC lunchtime news that the owners of Coventry Airport have decide to close the airport indefinitely. I believe they said with immediate effecy (but may have misheard).
Good luck to everyone affected.

Cvt Closure
Nice time to pull the pin. Happy Christmas (not!!)
Sorry for all those at Cvt who worked hard to keep it going.
The phrase 'Lions led by donkeys' springs to mind.

From 1st December.
COVENTRY Airport is facing an uncertain future after the company which owns it was served a petition to ‘wind up’ its business amid rumours of spiralling debt.
Bosses at the city’s airport – which has been up for sale since May of this year – are due to appear in court next week.
The petition was handed over to airport owners, West Midlands International Airport Ltd, on October 23 and a hearing is due to take place at London’s Royal Courts of Justice on Wednesday, December 9.
The application was made to the High Court by HM Revenue and Customs. If the court grants the petition and makes the winding-up order, Coventry Airport will be placed into compulsory liquidation.
Brian Cox, airport director, told the Telegraph last night: “West Midlands International Airport Ltd is aware of the High Court petition and is actively seeking a solution. No further comment will be made at this time.”
The airport has had an unsettled year.
In November 2008, Thomsonfly announced it would be axing all its flights from Coventry – news announced just one month after Wizz Air pulled its flights from the city to Poland.
Thomsonfly operated 35 flights to eight destinations across Europe each week and the airline had been due to launch four new routes this summer.
But airport bosses remained optimistic and continued to insist that the company was still open for business.
In August the company invested in an Executive Jet Centre to handle the growing number of executive aviation movements and cargo.
Coventry Airport teamed up with luxury chauffeur drive company, First Class Cars, to provide top of the range ground transportation for clients using the centre.
A month later, airport bosses revealed they were in discussions with an interested buyer, but refused to say who it was.

I think that although, perhaps, inevitable, the staff deserved better....

Possibly training schools may be allowed to fly their aircraft out - by instructors - and possibly Mike Collett may be stepping in to take over but all maybe's.
I wonder what Atlantic Flight Training are going to do..

According to the NOTAM the airport is closed for 24 hours...guess it will be extended.
Any idea what will happen with all the NPT flights out of Coventry?

Coventry closure
Hey guys and girls. Been in this situation myself. I know its worrying. When the airport I worked at went tits the administrators came in and sorted it very quickly. I suspect there may already be someone willing/waiting to take it on,lets face it its goin to be a bit of a bargain. Dont lose hope but dont hang around if you can get something now. Good luck everyone.
This is just tough on businesses, when a major provider of your assets (like a base) goes bankrupt. A reason why it's good to have control over your own destiny.
Similar thing with aircraft leasing, an airline doing fine can be hit by their aircraft leasing company itself going bankrupt, and the fleet suddenly beng lost. You can even find you lose your rented home where the landlord goes bankrupt.
The receiver/manager is bound to realise whatever they can for the assets. If they can provide sufficient income to cover day-to-day expenses, they will do so and it can continue as an airport.
A lot is down to the local authority. If they insist that the place stays as an airport and will receive no planning permission for alternative use, then it only has value as that, and the tenants etc may find they can buy it from the receiver to keep going. If there is any hint that factories, shoppng malls or houses could be built on it then the property developers will move within hours and outbid any aviation activity. What was the local authority's attitude to the airport ?
