It will be a terrible shame to see it be used for a business / industrial park; but its hardly news that that is the likely use should it now be viable as a commercial airport.
That said, as a WDC council tax payer, I would happily see Coventry City Council create jobs for folk as a result of WDC's destruction of the airport; and do nothing to help WDC meet any of their obligations.
I am ashamed to say that they represent me, for they don't. I have seen the planning department at WDC engage in massively expensive legal battles alledgedly in the public interest. It is about time some comeuppance was served!

I suspect the comments in this article are much more to do with Coventry Council saying to Warwick DC that they will not get co-operation with housing targets than it is to do with the Airport.
It does not take a genius to work out that the airport is a difficult financial proposition at the moment but Howard Holdings will need to be very desperate to surrender a lease that they paid an awful lot of money for. Somebody with a plan might just be out there to buy it for at least a part of what they paid. These things take time, especially in the current climate.

What sort of business do they have at the moment? I work in Walsgrave, not far from the hospital, and see a few large-ish aircraft coming in, following the A45... I assume they're cargo...

Around a dozen regular freight movements by 'larger' aircraft (ATP, S360 etc) on weekdays, some ad hoc freight flights (Metros, D228s etc), various Atlantic positioning flights, some bizjet movements (probably slowly growing), training traffic (Oxford, Cabair, RAF helicopters plus the based Atlantic flight training and others), other GA and light helicopter traffic plus occasional passenger charters, Atlantic's horse carrying 737 etc.
As previously stated, not bringing in a load of dosh but, on the other hand, not nearly as dead as some people seem to think.

From BBC News website
Potential buyer found for airport
Coventry Airport, which was put up for sale in May, has said it has found an interested buyer.
The airport lost its only passenger airline in 2008 and also saw plans for a new terminal rejected in February.
It has since been operating as a cargo terminal and a base for executive jets and aviation-related businesses.
Airport director Brian Cox confirmed a sale was possible but said he could not divulge the identity of the potential buyer.
He added: "As soon as we can say something we will."

Well, it could be MC or.....
- A Middle Eastern multi billionaire, about to take Coventry City to the top of the Premier League, seeking to get free landings for his BBJ
- BAA, looking to replace Gatwick in their portfolio, being the only company with the influence in Whitehall to get planning permission for a terminal at CVT, albeit after a 10 year Public Enquiry
- MOL looking to prove to airports across Europe that airports can be run with very little income
- Stobarts as they seem to buy airports with no apparent future
- Infratil - well they bought Manston, didn't they?
- Peel because there aren't enough services to lose or enough land to build on
- Manchester A G because they like to extend runways and there is no way the hypocritical ancient Britons at Warwick DC would give planning permission
- Birmingham Airport because they would take another 5 years to make the decision
- An aviation engineering company with a hundred year history of making good decisions
- A Bizjet company whose current base in the UK has significant restrictions
- A foreign aircraft manufacturer wanting a finishing and repair centre

Howard Holdings are no more it seems. They have gone under and some accountant will be selling off any assets that are worth something and closing down the others.
BHX & EMA could easly take on Coventry flights as both have seem big drops in operations. It is not clear that a potental buyer would not turn the airport into housing in 3-4 years time. Coventry is just too close to BHX to get enougth work.

Be Free, I don't think your information is correct - see postings 1135 to 1138 above
The UK company Howard Holdings plc has been closed down the Howard Holdings (Irish company), which own the company that runs CVT is still going strong.
As has been said before, no buyer is going to turn the airport into a housing estate, industrial park or quarry because the site is leased and if it is not used as an airport, the lease reverts to the Coventry City Council.

My infromation should be correct as it is directly from the company 2007 accounts. The ulitimate holding company is Howard Holdings plc. You can get these from Companies house for £1 a time. You may have been told something else by the management but would you trust them ( or are you the management).
The lease will revert to the City Council who are shareholders of Birmingham airport!
