I don't think anyone is predicting or wishing it's demise. I do think however, that it needs to find it's place in the world. Stop the silly rivalry with BHX and make a nice living from solid sources.

Air Southwest flight
I've noticed on the airport website that there's an Air Southwest flight (WOW 9026) scheduled to land at 17:10 from Guernsey. Does anyone know the reasons for this flight?

looking at thomson site -- farefinders. tom are selling flights until early nov. also read on cvt site, that horizons are doing the catering there on a 3yr deal, by the sounds of things having a bit of a revamp. if tom are pulling out it seems lots of effort going on for 1 carrier.. wizz. unless cvt has another carrier on the horizon.

On the other hand it is just a new cafe run by the same company that runs the old one.
I suspect that the new three year contract will have one or two get-out clauses which allows Horizon to depart if everything goes pear shaped.

Has Coventry faded away?
I have just looked at the airport website and can only see one departure after 0730 for the rest of today and only three arrivals and one of those is the Jersey route which I hear is being dropped. Is there something wrong with the website or has Coventry faded away?

Coventry has not faded away. Thomsonfly have cut back services as has been well documented (2 aircraft based this summer compared with 3 last). In the middle of February TOM are preferring to leave aircraft sitting doing nothing to flying with poor loads.
Unlike other TOM bases, the Jersey service has not been dropped and is on sale until 2nd November currently.
Meanwhile Wizz continue to get good loads to Katowice three times a wek and start three times a week to Gdansk next month.

Pre TUI, COV was still a busy airfield, albeit not overstretched on the commercial passenger front.
I can't remember who owned it at that point (local councils?), but the new owners won't make a profit without the IT Charters and profit is their bottom line.

Halve the number of planes Halve the Paseenger figures!!
The figures are bound to be down by nearly 50%, they have cut the planes from 4 to 2, which is 50% by my calculations.
The new spring/summer schedule and extra Wizz flight will bring them back on track. However they will still reflect a down turn in numbers from 2007 as the number of planes are still reduced.

was the website correct?
I know it is a bit sad to admit to this, but, I had a look at the time table for Monday, and I don't think there were any movements just like the website suggested. If that is correct, what do the staff do all day? I don't think I have ever heard of this before. There are only 3 in and 4 out tomorrow that is not even one unit's work. It's well down on last year's 4 units.

Well Thomsonfly lost at least £12 million and probably much more than that on their UK scheduled services last year.
The real mystery is whether Coventry Airport itself is losing a lot of money too.

Thomson's owner signed a contract to keep using the airport when they sold it to the current owners. I do not know how long it was for nor how many flights they needed to operate. It may be that the airport is getting some payments for the missing flights in the short term.

just a thought... if ryanair are starting 20 new destinations from bhx, could it be possible baby, flybe or whoever might start using cvt for some of the more popular detinations that ryanair might be starting from bhx
