Am I working at BHX?
From where I live in Brum it would take me far too long to commute to BHX.
Now if I lived in Coventry I would definitely get a job there as it's just a 10 minute drive up the A45.

Totally agree. I doubt whether Coventry will attract another 'major' or 'minor' airline for that matter.

Hmm, has it occured to you that the Thomsonfly loss-making operation at CVT is actually subsidising the Wizzair flights?
Without the infrastructure presently in place, mainly paid for by Thomsonfly's activities, it likely CVT would be forced to charge Wizzair such high charges they would pull out.

It is also worth noting that when FR did fall out with BHX they left the very profitable BHX - DUB route in place. If they wanted to move then that would have been the ideal time.

I believe 0523 Cov Man's latest post refers back to the discussion on 12th April about freight schedules.

The "aag f27" is the "Italian Fokker" already referred to which is actually operating for Atlantic Airlines (NPT) on behalf of Parcelforce from Edinburgh

The "bac short 360" is probably referring to a short lived service from Weeze operated initially by BAC but then sub-chartered to a number of other carriers with smaller aircraft before stopping.

The "b1900" is actually a Beech 99 which operates very spasmodically from Liege.

From this week the double nightly Electra to Belfast in Frogga's posting is down to once a night.

The Dublin F27 referred to by Frogga is an MNG F27 operating for Atlantic Airlines which returns and operates the Jersey/Guernsey flight.

Hope this clarifies things a bit.

Sadly it seems that CVT is heading the same way as MME, with further airline consolidation/closure then i woud guess some airports must follow? whilst the PO must fly from somewhere, someone has to pay for all the support that is required to run an airport in the UK

Thumbs up New Summer 2009 routes !

New weekly flights to Zakynthos on Mondays, Monastir on Wednesdays and starting up again for summer 09 weekly flights to Corfu on Fridays and Minorca on Wednesdays.

Other flights include;
7X weekly Jersey (Daily)
6X weekly Palma (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sundays)
5X weekly Malaga (Tuesdays, Thurdays, Friday, Saturday and Sundays)
4X weekly Alicante (Tuesdays, Thursday, Saturday and Sundays)
4X weekly Faro (Tuesdays, Thursday, Saturday and Sundays)
3X weekly Ibiza (Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays)
1X weekly Pisa (Saturdays)

Quite a good mix and good frequency of routes there!
It looks as though it will be 2 based 737-300 aircraft operating these routes.

Excellent news for CVT, looks like Thomson have worked out how to make a profit out of the loss making operation!!

Will they still be operating the 737s? I don't know if the runway is long enough for a larger aircraft and I don't know if a 737 could get to the Greek islands.

Will the airport be developed or has that been shelved, I would have thought that a bit of investment in the terminal would be in order.

This winter

They have the summer 09 timetable out but what about the winter before that. the online timetable has nothing between 3rd Nov 2008 and 1st May 2009. Could Coventry become a summer only airport?

European send B737-200's to Greece so range shouldnt be a problem

This has happened every year so far of the TOM operation from Coventry (and Doncaster and Bournemouth). They do not put the Winter programme up (except some longer haul) until relatively late and someone predicts the end.....
Thomson Holidays meanwhile are offering the usual destinations from CVT through the winter.

airhuy

what I was wondering was whether they could carry enough fuel to get to the Greek islands as I think they struggle to get enough on board with the short runway at CVT being the limiting factor for Faro and Malaga in the summer when it's hot and the flight is full.

at least that's what a bloke in the pub told me.

I take note of everything so do try to keep up, it's Zakynthos.
Your two new routes are of course only x1 a week so not too much extra traffic there.
All told there will about 33 return flights a week which I suspect will be down on past figures for CVT.
I admit I'm surprised at the level of commitment from Thomsonfly which applies to some other small airports too.

Have I had the sack from CVT?
No more than you've had the sack from BHX although come to think of it....

Befree, time will tell...but given that on the Thomson website there are holidays being sold from CVT to ALC, AGP and on the crystal ski website there are ski holidays to GNB airport from CVT, I am guessing that there will be some winter activity

Alycidon, the appeal in to the decision to reject the terminal starts on July 21st. Several interesting consultative committee meetings take place (one is tonight), at the last one on January 31st, there was significant discussion around improving the terminal, and the point has been raised about applying for a permanent 0.98 million passenger terminal: the route I would like to see the airport take.

Alvechurch, 4 "new" routes, all weekly: MIR, ZTH, CFU all new, MAH returns (previously operated in Summer 2005). Possibly correct about the number of passengers not significantly increasing, although would an airline rather have daily PMI/AGP/ALC flights at around 80% full with diluted yield, or several new routes, offering essentially the same capacity, but reducing frequency on some routes to accomodate the new destinations, thereby increasing yield and load factor. Essentially, whereas capacity remains pretty much the same for next Summer at CVT (although 33 flights per week with 2 aircraft may mean fewer W patterns in to other airports), load factor and total number of passengers travelling might just increase.

Aidoair, cannot see the weekly Pisa in the timetable. It operates Summer 2008, but not in (yet?) for Summer 2009.

Pretty much agree with your analysis.
Loads will be a critical factor, but I'm still trying to work out how this fits in with TUIfly's stated intention to phase out UK scheduled ops.
It's possible I suppose that CVT has a contract which restricts Thomsonfly's options for a particular time period?

Alvechurch, the flights will probably be sold as packages (charter flights), with Jersey being designated a charter flight and sold with 140 odd one way seats
