Well Aer Lingus promised when all the uncertainty over the shannon-stopover arose that they would keep at leat one flight to Boston and New York at SNN. Not sure if they'll keep that promise though. But in fairness, making the rest of the country trek to DUB to catch a T/A flight when they've been used to being able to just go to SNN , I believe, would be a bad move for Aer lingus in terms of goodwill and loss of business.

EIN promise they're exisitng capacity post stopover to JFK and BOS.... Presumably they will base 2 or 3 A332's here....
I fly COA to EWR ex SNN all the time. Its always full.......They'res (And DALS, USA's,AAL's) service is so much betters than Aer Lingus, they are going to recieve more than theyre US compeditors. Aer Lingus are not what they used to be.
In a statement some time ago from Aer Lingus they said '...we currently supply 400,000 seats per annum on SNN Short Haul. We would be happy to increase this to 600,000. We are constantly keeping Shannon short haul under active(?) review.....' (Personally I dont believe this)

Yes I agree with you, I cant see many changes on the Aer Lingus short-haul, Shannon network. I was hoping they might consider AMS at some stage but its growing ever more doubtful given their continued expansion at Cork, they just don't seem to be interested in SNN short-haul bar LHR.
It's good news though on the long-haul front if Aer Lingus do in fact keep the JFK and BOS services, and with AA starting the Chicago service then the loss of the Shannon-stopover shouldn't be as big a blow as the media makes out. If SNN management can work as well with the current US carriers serving the airport and other US airlines currently not serving the airport, such as Northwest, as they did with Ryanair then maybe SNN can maintain its current pax growth????
By the way, was it that the AA SNN-BOS service wasn't performing well and they had to pull it or was there another reason to the end of that service?

I am not too sure if the new AAL service to ORD is routing through Shannon because of the stopover, or if AAL just want it to.
The SAA did try and work with American Carriers, but they not seem interested due current restrictions. Hopefully there will be some resolution.....(That was the 'discount' landing incentive thing- EIN were the only guys who took up the offer!!)

Yes, trying not to be a cynic, but I feel AA have kind of covered up the fact that they've scrapped the Boston route for whatever reason by 'announcing' that they've extended their ORD-DUB route to incluse SNN. However, they didn't really have any other choice in the matter, as you said, due to the stop-over agreement.

I agree. I think if the EI ORK-MAD route didn't exist right now, then FR wouldn't have announced MAD-SNN today, but at a later SNN/MAD expansion.
That said, a lot of the new MAD routes wouldn't have been my first priority when launching a Madrid base, seeming more like routes that should come in later expansions...

Ya, what happened to Stansted??I'm obviously missing something here because surely a STN-MAD route would be an absolute goldmine???
I'm so confused...one minute Ryanair are trying to buy EI and then they go and try to ruin their ORK-MAD route!!!!!

Are you sure about STN-MAD with EZY???I just went on their website and it wasn't showing on their booking engine, maybe it's a temporary glitch or something.
Even still, I doubt RYR would be afraid of EZY on any route!!! Just look at their response to EZY's ORK/SNN/Knock-Gatwick routes!!!!

There is no airline that flies a scheduled service from STN to MAD.
FR didn't announce any routes from MAD today their most important hubs: HHN, BGY, CIA, GRO.
I think this is because with 3 based aircraft in Madrid and a desire to launch STN, CIA, BGY, GRO, HHN you couldn't offer the frequencies this routes deserve.
Ryanair would have announced today: "New Madrid base: 3 new aircraft, 2 new routes (STN and CIA)"
So it looks like they opted for the soft launch approach. I have no doubt that STN, CIA, BGY, HHN, PSA, GRO, BRE, LPL, PIK, NYO will all become FR Madrid destinations sooner rather than later, not to mention the Canary Islands (and other domestic routes), Morocco, most current FR Italian and German destinations, and later KAK, WRO, RIX, and many more!
Interesting times ahead

1. If they don't take over Aer Lingus they want to make life as tough as possible for Cork. They don't want to operate from Cork, but at the same time they don't want any other airlines operating successfully from Cork. Just look at what they did with Easyjet.
2. If they do take over Aer Lingus they want to reduce passenger numbers from Cork as much as possible so that they can move some of the planes to Shannon saying they are losing money at Cork. Either way Ryanair have it in for Cork and are trying everything to ruin the airport. The easyjet experience will scare off lots of other airlines who could operate quite successfully from Cork.

It can't be that sinister a move can it??!! Only a couple of months ago they announce the Liverpool and DUB flights and, I know alot has happened in the meantime (i.e. increase in charges by the CAA and RYR moving 3 of the Liverpool flights to Kerry), but I can't see why MOL would have any major problem against ORK like that!
If he had he would have done to ORK what he did to BHX and cut not only the frequencies but also a couple of the routes alltogether when the charges increased.
I would love to see ORK and SNN being able to grow simultaneously in the future!

The Dublin flights are more to do with stopping Aer Arann getting too successful, the Cork-Dublin route was and still is Aer Arann's busiest route. As for the liverpool route that has been operating since 2004 (I stand to be corrected on that one). However the real reason they don't pull the Cork routes is as I said earlier. They don't want to operate many services from Cork but at the same time they don't want anyone else operating from Cork either.
