I am surprised EI havnt taken up some slack after FR. Faro would definately be worth a twice weekly and would put it up to FR out of Knock. Also Brussels and possibly a Gatwick Daily. Hope Lanzarote is the first of many or SNN will be in serious trouble.

Does anyone no if Aer Lingus will bring on a route from Shannon to Lanzarote?
If there does come a new Aer Lingus route Shannon to Lanzarote, I would how they would achieve this:
  • Once a week (for example) use the Shannon based A320 to fly to Lanzarote instead of a couple of Heathrow sectors
  • Base an A320 in Lanzarote and use that aircraft to operate routes to Cork, Dublin, Belfast and Shannon
  • Base an extra A320 in Shannon, introduce Lanzarote and a host of other routes
  • Fly a W from Dublin or Cork: ORK - ACE - SNN [Crew change] SNN - ACE - ORK (That crew change thing would be costly and cumbersome...)

I am surprised EI havnt taken up some slack after FR.
They're probably enjoying the increasing yields at Cork and Dublin.

2.6 million in 2009 (3rd busiest in IE after ORK -> 2.8 + DUB 20.5)

Its expected to drop (with announcements) to about 1.1m or 1.2m in 2010 and could be overtakin by Ireland West Knock.

Quote: "I heard, just a couple of hours ago from another reliable user on PPRUNE that Aer Lingus might base an Aer Lingus Regional ATR in Shannon for the winter to serve MAN and BHX"

I don't understand how this would work for Aer Arann given they operate GWY an now KIR - MAN, both within an hour of SNN?

The DAA (on behalf of the SAA which it runs) have launched proceedings against Ryanair in this respect. Ryanair's defence is that the Government's €10 Tourist Tax constitutes a force majeur, and the contract they had with Shannon allowed for the scenario of not reaching the agreed passenger numbers in the case of a force majeur.

Proceedings ongoing...

This Summer isnt good at all for SNN:

Aer Lingus -> 30% less passengers (3 flight daily to LHR, 5 flights pw to both BOS & JFK -> main decrease due to reduction of BOS & JFK + termination of ORD)
Air Transat -> 75% less passengers (1 flight pw down from 3pw to YYZ)
Continental -> 35% More passengers (11 flights pw to EWR)
Ryanair -> 75% less passengers (Announcement mainly)
Delta -> 60% less passengers (because of seasonal JFK)

So the outlook is _Less_passengers_

its mainly the DAARyanair

snn departure board showing 4 departing for LHR. RTE reports that Shannon was expected to take up to 24 of the 28 BA aircraft that were in the air before it was announce that UK airspace was to re=open. Can you imagine all these BA planes at SNN. Would have been a sight.

I took a trip up to SNN last night, to see all the BA aircraft. It was a very nice site. All of them have returned to LHR by shannonei2010.
Any photo of all the BA aircraft?

SHANNON

Well Omni Air came back with its flights on Saturday evening when DC10 N108AX operated through. Had been using Porto during the ash cloud closure. Some photos of the DC10 in the new colours can be found at

Seriously?

They're servicing a lot of routes with one aircraft. I wonder how many crews!?

Ya, definitely just one aircraft. A share of the routes are just once or twice weekly though so they've got a lot of routes out of one aircraft. Also, a number of flights to Stansted, Edinburgh and Liverpool are operated using non-based aircraft.

maybe it has been discussed already, maybe it has been done by SAA, but in my opinion they should be targeting easyjet (or similar companies such as airberlin) and try to offer them a deal as sweet as possible. I would love to see the reaction of MOL faced with the prospect of having easyjet operating in their backgarden.
