Loganair, under franchise to BA, also benefitted from PSO subvention for a period of them running the LDY-DUB route.

If this does happen, would it be solely Loganair, or would it be Loganair in BE colours?

Seems an odd one. Surely an EDI would make more sense than a return of the what ended up utterly decimated DUB route?

Heard today that the Airport is rife with rumours that the Dublin route is to return!
Stead on there guys, I know this is a rumour mill but even so . . . . .

Surely an EDI would make more sense than a return of the what ended up utterly decimated DUB route?
I agree.

One other thing ...... Loganair don't currently fly to Dublin so how would the aircraft get to LDY? As part of a "W" pattern on a new Dublin route from somewhere else or two new routes for LDY?

Or possibly complete nonsense.........

It's about 11 months since BE announced MAN, perhaps if they were to announce a route again it would be within the next month. If I wanted to make a success of a route, and I had the available aircraft, I would start a number of routes to make a big impact. Wishful thinking I know, but it'd be great to have BE back.

They do. They fly Donegal-Dublin so can't see them doing Derry.

Could be complete nonsense, as stated I was told it is the rumour going round at the minute. I'm sure there are constant rumours and possibly we don't hear them all.

Your right Amelia this is a rumour forum so folk can post stuff as they hear and like!

I think they could still do a LDY-DUB route as Carrickfin Airport is about 1.5 hours from Derry. The burning question is would it be commercial?

Banks now raiding airports

FURTHER DOUBT CAST OVER GALWAY AIRPORT

February 1, 2012 - 6:15pm
Further doubt has been cast over the future of Galway Airport.

It's emerged this evening that Bank of Ireland has reportedly seized funds from the Airport's deposit account, jeapardising the company's ability to continue as a going concern.

President of Galway Chamber Declan Dooley, of which Galway Airport is a subsidiary company, says he's outraged by the Bank's actions.

According to him, last Friday, without any notice to Galway Airport, Bank of Ireland seized €1.1 million from the company's account and set it off against the company loans which were up to date, fully compliant and not in default in any way.

The Airport had €1.6 million in its bank account before the funds were seized.

Declan Dooley said this could have a detrimental effect on Galway Airport.

Surely someone like manx2 would make the route pay with no pso funding. i would think a saab would still be too big an aircraft to use on the route.

Interesting. It is shown on the Flybe route map as a Flybe flight not a Loganair flight although the Glasgow-Donegal flight is shown as Loganair. Maybe there is little distinction.

Amelia if you don't know about the Loganair/flybe franchise setup by now I give up. You do generally come across as a fairly knowledgeable lass/lad !

Amelia if you don't know about the Loganair/flybe franchise setup by now I give up.
Then you have missed my point.

Loganair do indeed have a tie up with Flybe however they remain separate entities.

On the Flybe website route map the Dublin-Donegal Flight is shown as a Flybe flight and not a Loganair flight while the Donegal-Glasgow flight is shown as a Loganair flight.

Strangely however on the Loganair website the Dublin-Donegal flight is also shown as a Loganair flight on their route map.

The Donegal flight itself is conducted by one or other airline and not the both despite their close ties, the distinction being that if Loganair don't operate Dublin to Donegal then they have no plane in Dublin to operate to LDY which would imply if the rumour were true that they would also need to be flying into either airport from somewhere else.

Anyway I think we can take it that the Loganair route map is the correct one and that they do have a plane, so sorry, looks like no LDY-EDI for now.

Just booked flights from BHX to LDY in just over 2 weeks time... £31 all in. Bargain.

Also, regarding something I enquired about on this thread a little over a month before hand concerning car hire... Europcar hires to 21+, shame I didn't know this last year, as I flew to Belfast twice to use Sixt car.

Was doing a few calculations and worked out that LDY-STN carried 131,160 passengers for 2011. I wanted to compare it to the NOC-STN service which carried 101,035 for 2011. I know not really a fair comparison due to LDY getting the double flights on Mon + Fri from April 2011 but even upto this point LDY carried more PAX than the NOC service.Basically I'm wondering why we haven't either been given double daily everyday or the LTN service back say 4 weekly? It was reported in the media somewhere that NOC will soon have the double STN flights on a Mon + Fri yet RYR have taken these from LDY for the months of July & August. I'd love to know what goes on negotiation wise between RYR & LDY.

Apparent anomaly

I am sure that there is a deeper analysis of the market beyond numbers. Projections will be made for business/tourist/domestic categories to determine route usage, although they might all look the same on a loadsheet.

Carnmanorlad, your forgetting that Knock has a daily Luton and daily gatwick service year round also so ur comparison is not remotely similar. It all bolis down to loads and yield if the market can take it ryanair will service it, its that simple.

That is pretty close to the peak carried by the route when it was twice daily every day when it carried around 150K pax p.a.

CAA STATS

Jan 2012 stats are in, they aren't great.

Route/Sectors/PAX/LF
STN/82/9211/59.4%
LPL/80/7405/49.0%
PIK/60/4495/39.6%
BHX/36/3706/54.5%

The Jan month total was 24,857, which is a 11.9% increase on Jan 2011. Seems great until you realise Jan 2010 had no double STN or LPL.

Cuthere if you want to have a quick run through to ensure there right as the LF do seem a little low?

City of Derry Airport costs ratepayers £3.6m
The reality of the "Ryanair miracle". Here we have one of the fastest growing airports in the UK, where costs have been slashed, but it can't operate without massive public subsidy. Why? Because Ryanair pays f*** all. It's Michael O'Leary's not-very-secret key to success - offload the costs on to someone else. And if that someone else is the ratepayer or the taxpayer, even better, because then you can rant about free enterprise while hauling the sacks of public money all the way to your Monaco bank account.
