A320ECam and what would happen to all those employed at the airport and its surrounds? After all it is the largest employer in Bedfordshire. I hope you are not one of those who couldn't give a toss about other people and their livelihood.

Its a shame that they couldn't find a way to rip down most/all of the old terminal and orange hangar and develop that area (and build upwards) as expansion for the terminal etc, leaving the newer terminal relatively untouched for the duration of those works.

Thomson
Not widely know yet, but Thomson are NOT planning on taking ANY third party lease-in capacity next Summer. They have already cancelled a 788 order that was due for S'18 and will contract their flying. I assume the LTN loss will be a result of the Aircraft being relocated to LGW due to the 5 or so East European A320's not being taken in on lease.

Facts,
Have you got the right airline? I'm not aware of Thomson having any Eastern European A320 on lease? Thomas Cook have, which are the Avion Express and Smartlynx aircraft, but Thomson don't.
All of Thomson 3rd party flying is not leased in equipment, it's the host airline using their own aircraft, flight crew, flight numbers and so on. These are airlines like Freebird, Air Europa, Norwegian and Air Malta.

LAX.
The information I was made aware of equates to the equivalent of 5 lease in units capacity wise, I believe the two dedicated TUI Norwegian units are within this 5 with the remainder being the overseas incoming Aircraft you mention. My apologies in reference to A320's, my 'who's leasing what' knowledge is a little rusty these days.

Seeing that Luton has not used the south stands or the Pond for night stoppers regularly Luton will have 10 extra stands in those locations plus 2 extra on the eastern apron plus another one on the hangar line. That's plenty of extra capacity for the terminal.

There is new video of the terminal extension:
Transforming LLA
Is it possible open some part before the summer? If they do not do anything, this summer will be a total caos in departures...

Boeing737-8...Wrong on both counts TOM based aircraft operate more than one return flight in the Summer (except for the odd day which have planned maintenance slots) One 737-8 is the planned reduction.....be a clever boy and think that there might be just a few based 737-8 flight deck crews!!

So on a Monday where does the plane go after Gran Canaria???
So what about a Tuesday when the plane comes in from Zante
What about Wednesday, oh it comes from Paphos and doesn't move after??
Thursday it goes to Malaga and doesnt do anything else for the rest of the day.
Friday it's does a Corfu flight with a W flight plan meaning still only 1 flight for the day.
If it wrong please correct me but by that evidence I believe that I speaking quite correctly.

737-8 (AKA little boy!)......You were implying that all based aircraft only fly one rotation per day which as I said is untrue. What you refer to does not involve just one based aircraft and includes the total of all weekly maintenance slots across all three based aircraft (aircraft are rotated in regularly for this) There are also often additional flights to places like IBZ and PMI added to the program depending on demand for the busiest summer period.... ie school holidays (which you must know all about!)

Okay maybe I put planes instead of a plane will only do one flight for the day. Calling me a child when you were the only one who didn't understand what was straight infront of your eyes. Also will this happen now where one of the 2 aircraft are sitting around for maintance or whatever reason. Much less likely and as I said the airport will benefit from another airline having that over night stand and slot.

I see that there will be a traffic light shortage in the UK now Luton has installed all remaining supplies!

With regard to the new build I would say the first part to open will be one of the new ground entrances as the window frames are now going in and also the yellow recess entrances. Work continues on the new ICE money exchange shop which will sit opposite the entrance as their temporary location will need to be moved out of the way.
No sign of any canopy going in yet over the frontage so the opening could still be quite a way off.

Sorry, I would not call 16 million passengers good news when the terminal capacity is only around 12 million passengers. I would call it a disaster for the airports already tarnished image.
Good news will be the removal of all roadworks from either side of the tunnel, the opening up of more bus bays, a new taxi rank and the completion of the drop off zone by its final extension under the footbridge and its missing section of top layer of tarmac in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen if any improvement to the traffic flow appears when all the work is finished during the morning peak.
The opening up of one of the new entrances will mark the first section of the new build to open plus a section of canopy. I would think this will happen in the summer.
The existing departure lounge will fully reopen around June, which together with the moved duty free shop, will modestly increase the public areas.
New stands for use by the terminal are already increasing the night stopping capacity with more to follow in June.
Not sure about the completion date for the taxiway extension to 08, as it will need connecting to the runway with planned airport closures in December and next January looking like the dates but when finished the airports runway rate will increase.
The starting of taxiway Foxtrot in the coming weeks.
The starting by the end of the year of the new mass transit system to Parkway.

The increasingly tarnished image of the airport and recent experiences I'm hearing increasingly as the reason why the people in Luton's attatchment area are starting to shun the airport and book alternatives. As a family it's a complete nightmare to use for much of the day.

The main reason Luton has prospered is Eastern Europe with many passengers having no choice but to fly from Luton.
Hopefully this time next year Luton will be a better place to visit.

But in truth I am unlikely to fly Thomson either- I would fly Easy to most of their destinations where there is higher frequency and self plan the holiday. Have only used Easy and Ryanair in the last 10 years.

I agree and this is in no way a reacist comment but I can't help but think I might be happier with LTN as my local airport if we didn't have Wizzair. Others would fly to the places I might like to go (Prague. Budapest etc) - I am unlikely to go to most of their destinations.

My problem with Luton is that they have chosen to provide a very poor customer experience for an extended period of time. Consider all the touchpoints on the airports customer journeys in and of the airport and they're terrible. Traffic, general building site, little seating in the terminal, poor facilities and just a generally cheap feel about the old and new terminal buildings.
The immediate catchment area is what it is. The wider catchment area provides plenty of choice of cheap airport vs a better experience at same, little extra cost or higher cost. Luton attracts the former and nothing about the current developments indicate to me that they have any desire to appeal to anybody else. This will only change if the council sell up to somebody with a vision which shows no likelihood of happening.
The simple fact is that the powers to be at LTN have gone for sheer volume with little or no regard for any other aspect of the passenger experience (apart from obviously trying to extract the maximum return from retail floor space)
The bulk of the passengers using the airport are now reasonably young single's/couple's looking for cheap fares who can endure the LTN experience (crowds & lack of seating etc) Just about anyone else is justifiably horrified at what they find!
