Gentle Climb 9th December 2010 12:13

I witnessed somebody not only 'failing' an MCC course a couple of weeks ago but being asked not to return. I accept that it may be rare, but it does happen.

EK4457 9th December 2010 12:32

parkfell,

Utter nonsense from start to finish I'm afraid sir.

A JOC is not ANY kind of CAA, JAR, JAA, EASA, EU OPS (or any other quango) approved course. Unlike the MCC, which is.

It is an attendance course. Whilst admittedly I'm no expert, I know of NO JOCs which you can fail. They may kick you off the course for being a moron, but that's totally different. However, if a provider does decide to make it pass/fail then that's up to them, as the course is purely made up by themselves. The Jet2.com requirement was to have completed a JOC. Technically, this means paying the money and turning up.

Agreed, it will provide another set of training notes. However, if you feel unable to guage an applicants ability on their PPL, CPL, IR, MCC and groundschool reports then what difference does another set of records do?

The comments you make about documenting the learning curve are true, but all of the mandatory courses are sufficient in length and content to do just that.

The JOC is a halfway house between MCC and TR. However, it gives you nothing new for the former and is totally inadequate for the latter.

The JOC is simply a nice add on for the MCC for those who can afford it. Unless you literally have £3,000 to burn,

a JOC is a bit of a waste of money as everything in it is covered by a TR course
is a very true statement.

Finally, the reason why I'm a little riled by your post;

explains why J2 values their importance in deciding who, with little or no experience, is worth investing in?
For a SSTR, no pay during training, bonded for line training and 70% salary, I can assure you that LS make absolutely no investment in their cadets whatsoever. Can you guess who does?

Wake up.

parkfell 9th December 2010 15:42

EK 4457

A somewhat confrontational answer. Is this your normal style, or are you just picking me out for attention.

1. A closer scrutiny of my post would reveal that I never said JOC was an "approved course". Only the MCC is required for a MP type rating.

2. Clearly your knowledge to date does not extend sufficiently to encompass the possibilty of all the outcomes. People have failed JOC in the past, although I accept it is a rare event.

3. I wonder if you would change your mind if you began teaching MCC & JOC?
It certainty gave me an insight, and continues to do so.
A well organised JOC is NOT a waste of time.

4. JOC certainty breaks the ice in multi-crew training, and makes the type rating a less daunting experience unless, of course, you happen to be ace of the base.

5. Your interpretation of the word "investment" is narrower than what I had intended to mean. I accept what you say in purely financial terms with the beancounters ruling the roost. I had intended to include the "value added" element by gaining the experience under the watchful eye of those older and wiser and wishing to impart their knowledge. Osmosis springs to mind.

Undertaking a jet course with your CPL/IR [+MCC] hot of the press can be a quantum leap. A JOC just makes it that bit easier. ;)

Firestorm 9th December 2010 16:52

Gentlemen your discussion os very interesting and enlightening, but it has drifted a bit from the point of the thread, namely news about Jet Two's recruiting and interviewing process. Would it be more appropriate to continue on another thread? Mods?

EK4457 9th December 2010 18:42

parkfell,

whilst I think we'll have to agree to disagree on the JOC point, I do apologise for the tone of my post. It was a bit of a rant.

Anyway, back on topic.....

Hi all,

I am considering putting an application in for the B757 with Jet2, but before I wasted both their and my time was hoping a kind soul might answer a couple of questions regarding the package. This is for an FO:

1. Are all the extras included such as medicals, license renewals, loss of license, death in service etc etc?
2. Are crew meals provided or is it a bring your own tea bag company?
3. What are the sector pay bands for an FO? I’ve seen the capts ones earlier in the thread but not the FO.
4. What happens in winter? I am guessing summer is super busy. Do they have any winter wet leases etc?
5. Likelihood of a command upgrade. For the past 2 summers they have recruited DE Capt. Has this been at the detriment of established FO’s, or in additional to due to lack of suitable candidates?

Any other information would be appreciated.
Thanks!! :ok:

73addict 10th December 2010 12:36

carrots,

I can answer some of your questions but I am on the 73 so the 75 may differ.

1. Company has a pension scheme although need to ask them for further details. Life assurance scheme (death in service) 3 x basic salary. A contribution of £200/year is offered for recurrent medicals.
2. No crew meals provided so bring your own.
3.Sector pay for 73 short (less than 1000nm) £6, medium (1000-1300nm) £7 and long (>1300) £8. £2.10 duty pay which is subject to HMRC. For additional sectors of 3 or 4 extra £4/sector (only for extra sectors) and 5/6 £8/sector (again only for extra sectors).
4.Depends if you are 100% OR 70% as to your usage by the company.
5. Command based on ability and hours NOT seniority so subject to captain requirements/your sims with Jet2 they will upgrade you as required.

Hope this helps :ok:

deathbyfun 10th December 2010 19:00

can any 757 FO's on 100% contracts comment on what the average take home pay is?

thanks in advance

Johnny F@rt Pants 10th December 2010 20:16

A contribution of £200/year is offered for recurrent medicals.
The limit is now set to £317 per medical:ok:.

Are crew meals provided or is it a bring your own tea bag company?
No crew meals, but you don't have to bring your own tea bags:D, unless you want a special brand:}.

forcandle 11th December 2010 14:01

Is the Capt and FO sector pay the same?

Johnny F@rt Pants 11th December 2010 14:31

Is the Capt and FO sector pay the same?

No, Capt is more than F/O.

Nearly Man

It would come as no surprise to learn that more than had been anticipated will be leaving for pastures new.
When I say more, I mean significantly more.:{

Add to the mix TCX and TOM for 75/6 needed in S.11 and life could just start to become interesting
in HR aka Cpl Jones @ J.2:eek:

70% contracts could turn out to be a risky path to tread.:\

BOGOF

Mintflavour 15th December 2010 08:10

BOGOF

I was on a reserve list, Then PFO, then told there was a mistake and application was still live then a week later offered 100% Contract at a base close to home.

So maybe they realise they need to offer reasonable terms in light of other recruitment activity.

All gone quiet on this thread, are others being offered 100% instead of 70% as a general rule?

Mint

mikehammer 15th December 2010 08:25

I don't know about general rule but the rumour mill from my workplace is that one chap replied that he couldn't afford the rating and was offered a bond instead.

Firestorm 16th December 2010 04:50

Just been offered a contract with Jet Two through Zenon probably starting in May, base to be decided. We were told at the interview that the chances of passing were good, and made better because 3 people didn't show that day! Strange, very strange!

Alessandra 19th December 2010 14:09

what is the pay for TR F/O on 100% contract? and captains?

mackey 19th December 2010 16:07

Agree with NM, good company to work for but great people to work with.

Which fleet and base Nearly Man? Probably know you if you are at Manch!

mackey 19th December 2010 17:20

Are you still with us or have you moved onto pastures new?

Crosswind Limit 21st December 2010 09:15

BALPA have won statutory recognition within Jet2 but recognition agreement/representation is yet to be determined. I'm sure there will be a long argument for many months to come.
Not surprised the recruitment ads are still out there. Rumour has it that there are numerous resignations, even training captains. Not good since training dept is stretched to the limit.

757 Speedbrakes 21st December 2010 11:08

Apprently some guys who were initially turned down at interview are now getting phone calls inviting them back!!

No need to panic though as the MD says that only the loss of 100 pilots would cause problems to the schedule............ and even if there is that number or greater who have applied to the sandpit or the worlds favourite employer, there's no way we'll all get job offers so its ok...

As long as those in 'the gang' continue to obtain promotions for job positions that were created only for them continues, all will be well!

fastidious bob: Yep, finally the last UK airline of 'reasonable size' has BALPA recognition! :ok:Talks will take place and things should start to improve although it may take some time. Don't expect Thomson or Monach T & C's overnight!

Application update

Hello folks

Just wondering...has anyone recently succeeded in updating his/her application form for this outfit or re-apply for a job after not receiving ANY feedback at all?

I am one of those that never heard a word from Jet2 and I see the are still looking. OK, I might not fit the bill (Low-hrs/non-rated) but nevertheless I would give it a 2nd go. Unfortunately if I stick in my email address and password I am told they are wrong. Then I try to request the pwd and get

Your login details are no longer current due to being over six months old or removed at your request.
Has anyone encountered the same problem? It looks an IT/website snag to me but before starting everything from scratch I would like to know if there is a way around it...

regards

i updated my info today, it seemed straight forward enough but each time i have been in to update it seems to have answers missing e.g. have you worked for airline before was blank when i put in yes each time. I am typed and several thousand hours both pic and f/o but i too have never recieved any response over the past year except the automatic 'we recieved it line'

simon2000 6th January 2011 17:17

Does anyone know what aircraft jet2 operate out of East Mids? 737 or 757?

Deaf Tortoise 6th January 2011 18:07

At the moment EMA is exclusively a 757 base, but there are always rumours...

D.T.

Landflap 10th January 2011 06:29

Papazulu, unable to answer specifically but I had the same problem with Etihad and that funny lot, BA (!), 757's out of somewhere with clapped out crews, some years ago. In fact, with Etihad, I couldn't even get past the NAME field as it said "This name already in use " !! I managed to pursue that one & even got to speak to the Ops Director who said he would look into it. I never got any further. With the BA operation, I managed hard copy correspondence and was finally told that Recruitment had ceased but no doubt I would find an outlet for my talents ! I did and have not looked back since. However, maybe it is the Web Manager's way of rejecting people they do not really want (?). Oh, finally, a buddy of mine gave up with some lot in Macau when asked for copies of every page of his passport , even blanks. He told them that his computer blew up at the attempt & received a curt reply stating that the company expected all pilots to be "Computer literate". He gave up and, too, has never looked back.

punk666 10th January 2011 10:41

I personally dont understand why these companies want to know the ins and outs of your arsehole!!

Why would the need to know your passport number and have copies of every page of your passport plus your NI number before you even got the job!! This is seriously a security threat or is it just big brother? I remember filling an app out for a middle eastern company that wanted details of my families passport numbers, seriously is that necessary how about I tell them my bank details whilst im at it!

flydog 11th January 2011 00:44

Yep I do, sounds like you think its something special, unlike some people I wouldn't apply if I wasn't qualified for the position

Can somebody post or PM the salary for a non-type rated DEC?

O'Neill No6 11th January 2011 16:23

FTL

And this will now become, not a limititaion (FTL) but 1,000 hours will be used for planning purposes! Imagine you are knackered already and then the company load you up with another 10% on top! Breaking point approaches!

Good luck chaps!

O'Neill.

Mr Angry from Purley 11th January 2011 20:43

It's by far not a done deal that EASA FTL will come into force in 2012 there's a long way to go yet. If you go onto the EASA website you can (as an individual) comment to the Commission on the proposals. If it does come into effect you need to get BALPA onto the case to stay at 900hrs from an Industrial aspect:\

MD11Man 12th January 2011 16:41

OK so I've just had a phone call inviting me for the selection later. Of course, I asked what it consists of, but if anyone has some more detailed & current info; highly appreciated!

PAPI-74 12th January 2011 19:03

Expect no info on the sim, no pitch and N1 settings and no communication from HR.
Cowboys!!!!

sps1013 12th January 2011 20:59

Well that's good news, as far as I am concerned, not a very good outfit. Got acknowledgement and a call to say they were interested, rang them straight back, nothing, every week I phoned, same response, they are very busy and my call will be passed to the relevant department for a call back. Still waiting. Called again but told, no recruitment! Really!!

They might want to know everything about people in the application but they should really try learning some basic recruitment skills and manners!

Rant over!

Recruitment Process

My experience Jan 2011

I had been trying to get acknowledgment through the Bond system with no joy. I decided to send an email with CV attachment, within 1 hour I received a response saying they have my CV, Thank-you and the relevant department would be in touch. One week later I noticed a missed call with a message, I phoned back and within minutes was confirmed for an assessment day. I was told an email would follow and within 10 min I had an email confirming.

My problem was with the Bond system but everyone I spoke too at recruitment were professional and helpful.

turbine100 14th January 2011 17:17

what is the email address?

ATC83 24th January 2011 14:13

Guys,

What does a full time captain take home per month incl flying pay and allowances after Tax?
I'm an FO but got quite a few hours...just trying to plan for the future on whether the salary is worth moving to Jet2 for or accepting job elsewhere. Obviously the FO's salary is very low for Market standard but was hoping the command pay is somewhat different??? I sense some disappointing replies to this... :uhoh:

73addict 24th January 2011 14:51

salary

ATC, in my opinion the FO salary is not very low (if you are on 100%). Granted it is not the best but there are, and have been, many out there lower! As for command I too am interested but I think it is circa £70,000.

speedtapeking 29th January 2011 10:00

Despite reading all the pages trying to get the bits of info together, anyone able to offer some definate details to the questions below ? i know some are on ppjn.com but not sure how accurate/upto date they are.

Whats the FO basic salary ? or take home average overt the year?
whats a typical 757 roster like in the summer ? how many days off as average?(man or leeds base)
what other benefits are there - pension, loss of licence, death in service etc etc
what routes do the 757 usually do ?

and just out of interest (possibly a good laugh depending on the replies) whats thefuture of the 757 atjet2 any rumours ? more of them ? replace with 737800? any other future plans rumours forjet2 ?

thanks, and for those that will ask 757 rated FO, 2000 on type.
