BWIA, 20 plus years, (L-1011, B738, MD-83 all the same pay)....... On second thoughts, I don't want to publicise how badly we are paid.Suffice it to say less than half fluffdriver's with comparable service and equipment!

Just over £3000 + meagre stale bread allowance from well known clerical patron of Middle England haulage company.
(LHS B737, 50 hrs a month, awful rosters & knackering max duty days spent polishing chairs between flights whilst dodging creepy management types).

CityFlyer Express, Avro RJ100 Capt.
First Job, 4 Years with Company, 2 Years as Capt. 3400 hrs.
£2700 GBP (+£235 which went into pension together with another 8% of gross from company).
Often lousy hotac though and one coleslaw & lettuce sandwich on a ten hour duty if you pick the wrong goodie bag!

Keep it up!

Forgive me for intruding on a thread that plainly I have little to add to, but can I just say that those of you on £3,000 plus after tax per month are on bloody good money. I'm a City type - commercial solicitor, working for a relatively large, well known City firm, with corporate clients doing corporate work - and my salary don't match that. In fact, I'd have to have close to a 30% raise to even get close. Where do I sign up?

Lawyerboy, suggest you take 18 months off work and invest £50k for a frozen licence.
Then you can battle for a poorly paid job with a turboprop operator spending 3 - 4 years getting sufficient experience in the hope that you may get picked up by a bigger airline.
Then with another 10 years or so experience you might be in the £60k per year bracket.
Suggest you chill your beans, old man.

Gentleman Aviator,
Your point is well made, but please bare in mind that hard work and empty pockets are not the exclusive preserve of the wannabe pilot. It took me ten years and an awful lot of cash to pay my own way through uni and law school to get to qualification.
In any case, my point wasn't that all this mullah was available without a lot of hard work and sacrifice, but that it was there at all. I had always assumed - though I can't think why, actually - that wages for pilots were considerably less than for other professions and lo and behold I see that an F/O with Brittania takes home £2800.
Better than I assumed, that's all.

I think 3000£ for senior captain jet (10 years) is pretty lame.
I am already making more as IT contractor at 30 years. Thats why i can finance my flying (a disaster for my finances by the way - i have a JAR ATPL(A)).
Forget aerodynamics and all the stuff. Basic component of lift is money.
I am afraid high oil prices will put doom and gloom in the industry.

Capcat...my old and love friend! remember the times when we used to have tea and sticky buns together on board?? those where golden years!!! ...and yeap.. I made more money 10 years ago
The sun doesn't shine a lot up here...good for you Yaw String! but it's the homeland of tea and sticky buns!!
I worked d**** hard last month...and didn't even get 900 GBP... I agree with my colleague Notac..
But you know...can't complain (a lot) after all...you know how much I love dealing with the SLF!! ;p and I have generally good fun onboard....let alone getting a flat bump!! Well…run so much that instead, to be honest, we might get sweaty "sticky bumps" ;p Are we selling flowers Capcat???
Gentleman Aviator…Maybe you could suggest to Lawyerboy where to "sign up" But do you think it would be a proper job for a "city type"??

Also BAe 146/Avro skipper at Cityflyer, two and a half years there, taking home £3055 last month - but nothing in the pension pot... I don't trust the buggers that look after these kind of funds !!
Beaver Eager, you're right about the new crew sarnies, they are HORRENDOUS.
Happy flying folks.

At the risk of making some people feel better or making others angry. I'm posting this as a point of reference for aviators. In industrial sales in US - having a good year.
Away half as much as aircrew (as near as I can figure)some driving (packing is a breeze-if you want it throw it in the car), some as self-loading freight.
USD$6,950 gross(this year-but it drops back if I don't sell as much)+ direct expenses + USD$25 per diem and all the pencils I can keep.
No complaints, but still occasionally envy the flight crew.
Have safe trips.

The best money I ever earned was while slingloading in a single engined helo over primary jungle in Indonesia. In todays terms probably about £4500 a month take home. No tax you see. However, lots of mossies, snakes, and crotch infestation. Wouldn't do it again I tell you. Mind you at the time I was very very very drunk......

IT contractor. 5 years in the business. £8,500 per month gross. Earned £850 pm gross when I started - not a bad 5 years.
LHS PA28 100hrs
High earnings pay the bills for my expensive hobby that will (hopefully) become a sustainable career, 'cos this one ain't.
So why do I want to get out of it? You guys know better than I do! As the saying goes money does not buy happiness.
