For those in the system, I applied round one Oct 2010. Interview Nov 2010, Sim Feb 2011. In the pool from the end of Feb...
Got the call today for a start date 24th Jan 2012.

Going on B767 out of LHR.
It takes time but they don't forget you. Be patient.

Congrats flyhalf.
Does anyone think that the current economic forcasts would suggest a slow down or freeze on recruitment for BA. Is it likely that some aircraft might be parked up like 2008? I suppose there are a number of retirees who would need replacing; but I can't help feel that some sort of entrenchment might be planned. Any thoughts?

Well assuming the Greeks don't plunge the world into financial meltdown, I think there's still a strong recruitment outlook at BA as a fresh intake has been put off for a long time already.
The word from HR during the Q&A session was to not expect to be in the hold all that long if successful. Fingers crossed!

Congratulations Flyhalf2, I take it you were pretty much #1 in the pool.
8 months is a long wait, I can't believe you've had to wait that long.
I'm hoping SmilingKnifed is right about things moving a long, because I know I'm not that close to the top and the waiting is already killing me!
It would be a lot easier if we were updated via their email system about where we stand in the pool and approximate dates, some of us have to sell homes, move to new areas and get children into schools.
Well done Flyhalf2!

Just so people don't get down about the wait. I was contacted Friday for a start in Jan after a 7 month wait in the pool.
I'm B757 rated, so they wanted me on the B767, hence the wait. I think A320 and B747 people won't wait as long.
If I had had more jet time I would have been on a B747 course in Sept.
My sim partner in Feb got a B747 course in Sept.
I have been told the internel bids have been pretty much sorted, so I assume they can start filling in the holes, a colleague got his call this week for a Jan start as well.
Good luck all.

Hi all,
I applied last Oct for a 737 post, had the interview in Feb and sim early in May. Been waiting almost 5 months to the day for a start date. I'm intrested to know how many people are out there that had sim slots earlier than I did and are still waiting.

Applied last October, interview in April, sim in June, Boeing rated, 3200hrs, missus thinks I should take EK instead of being in a holdpool as its not a confirmed job. Who'd think the waiting would be more stressful than the interview process itself!!

I am beginning to think Mrs Kempus might be onto something there.... There is definitely too much farting around in the BA process. As a job, it looks great, but there are pros and cons to both BA an EK and a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Does it necessarily mean that if you are 737 rated you will be earmarked for the 737 fleet? If thats the case then it may be a plausible factor for the lengthy swim in the hold pool? With only 19 aircraft, it's BA's smallest fleet.
I do know a few guys that went directly to the 744 as DEPs. They all had been 737 rated, however it appeared to me that they were filling a void after BA realised that they were unable to fulfil their rated DEP requirements for that fleet. Would that be true?

I asked that question at the Q&A part of the assessment and think I posted here ages ago. Basically the reply was that you were "streamed" for the type you were rated on may it be Airbus or Boeing.
Going with this was the statement that if they was a requirement for more airbus rated guys at a particular time they would be taken from the pool and given a start even if "behind" in the pool.
To top it off was the whole operational requirements thing which happened for courses Sept-Dec with the 747.
The guys in the recruitment team are working flat out and their hands are tied by the powers above and so need to wait until they get approval to fill a post with a £49k a year starting salary.
In the meantime it is a frustrating wait for us as things slow down for the winter and bills still needing paid. We are unable to commit to other things like a command course or even a new rental agreement in our houses in the meantime.
The wait is soul destroying with partners telling us to try other paths with more instantaneous results and establish the stability which is a big part of the reason why a lot of us on here applied in the first place.
I keep saying it's worth the wait and 100% convinced it will be. Why else would we wait this long. It's just hard to convince everyone when you applied over a year ago and was expecting to be well on the way by now. It's also difficult to stay motivated for this long with no difined goal. Especially after the intense and focused selection process.

Why not just stay in your current job, wait and use that income 'to pay the bills'? Or are you not working? If not you'd be mad not to take the Emirates job and let it be BAs loss. It wouldn't be the first time BA have selected and not employed. And I mean that unbiasedly. Sometimes life pushes you in certain directions.
......that all said you'd be mad to make life changing decisions based on anonymous advice on a forum!

BA wait
Hi all just to give some of you some info. The 73 fleet was fully crewed and in actual fact slightly over until recently. This was only until Sep/Oct when the more senior guys and gals with successful aspirational bids started courses on their new fleets. There has also been quite a lot going on at LGW re their new business plan and the fleet renewal for the 73. The last I heard we were going to be recruiting another 35 onto the 73 at beginning of next year. We are also currently in the process of selecting some new trainers as some are leaving to other fleets. So you can see lots happening and in my opinion, to those of you swimming with the 73 on you licence, they do not want to deplete the pool of rated people if they will need more.
But to all as has been said the internal annual bis are now complete and have been posted. While this can change and may change it will only be small changes so will show where their requirements are for the new crews.
Hope this helps. It is worth the wait.

Hi all.
I applied in July 2011 when the recruitment drive was open.
Had an email from BA to be patient at the end of July and that they would be in contact soon.
Heard nothing to this date.
May phone them to enquire.
All the best.
