Oh right, the looking after your own gang.
Like Judges passing lower sentences on crooked legal professionals?
Well as an ex-retailer, I shall just head to the 'industry only' queue next time I'm in the supermarket and pass through with my trolley full of freebies. With dignity, naturally!

Te Rangi, I appreciate exactly what you are saying.
Your posting is easy enough to understand for anyone who's been around the block a few times. We've all been there - you go out of your way to be polite yourself, then get treated like s**t in return.
Unfortunately, seem to be a lot of people with big chips on their shoulders who would rather use the thread as an excuse for attacking airline pilots in general.

Worked for EK, flown on EK on duty travel and staff concession; also as full paying non-company pax over the last 13 years. Well aware of treatment @ DXB and just accept it. They are not unique - try RBA check-in staff.
There again, I'm not a flyboy...
Where's the rose water?

It's good to see a post from somebody that is happy in their job and that is not slagging off their empoyer.
For your interest though I'd like to let you know the following. I recently flew with EK to MLE via DXB. I chose to travel with EK due to the reputation you have and the amount of awards you have won. I have to say I was very disapointed. The crew on all four sectors were pleasant enough but seemed totally disorganised at times. It was almost 2 hours before we were given anything to drink, the entire drinks and meal service took forever and didn't appear to flow. I could understand this happening on one sector but it was similar on all sectors. Maybe I was expecting too much but they didn't come up to my expectations. On a more positive note though I found the staff at DXB to be very friendly and efficient.
The leg room on the 777 is very good but a little cramped on the A330.

I extend politeness to anyone I meet and can surely expect the same from others, including colleagues but also estrangers and even my wife. Whether money exchanges hands is completely irrelevant.
Flying in Spain is a pleasure because you are always made to feel welcome and a jump seat request is often answered with 'you are in your own home' Common courtesy means that you will stand at the back of the queue and allow all passengers to board and disembark first. You create no disruption and the extra cost to the co is almost nil. Those of you that knock this system feel free to throw stones at your own roof but please do not complain when it rains.
Do teachers in private schools pay full fees for their kids? does a ford employee pay the full price for a new focus? Does a state agent buy the most overpriced house in the books? Is that comparable to a Judge knowingly giving a lenient sentence or a policeman allowing his colleague to rob a bank, hardly....

Just pass'n through...
...and when traveling in that part of the World I automatically lower my expectations. Sometimes in order to be happy one has to eliminate wants.
Last month on one Hadj flight from JED to NIM, I was amazed at how utterly composed and quiet those pilgrims sat in a high density configured cabin for many long hours....especially after having been camped at the Hadj Terminal for 3 days prior to flight.
Thankfully I'm lucky not to have to live in the sandbox....Always just pass'n through.

Witchdoctor, top stuff
TE RANGI, get that broom handle out of your arse .. I never had any trouble from "the average Emirati or Indian or Middleasterner" I find nice manners helps, I reckon you're one of those 'the big I am' blokes.
The only trouble I ever had was BA ID90 from checkin minimum wage white trash ... then that was sorted when I set about them with my cutlass

Lets face it, for an industry as a whole the pay is awful, getting cheap tickets is a bonus which most people view as "part of the salary".
But when you dont get on a flight it does p*ss you off! as TE RANGI clearly is. Therefore I believe he does have a point no matter how badly he puts it accross! Like he says we're all in the game - so dont make a fuss.
I had a situation closer to home where a tkt desk supervisor actually stopped the agent who was in the process of printing my tkt (ID90) and then told me to go to the back of the queue (i did not jump the q i had already stood in line). This was at 0700 at LHR, by the time she had told me this the other agent could have given me my ticket.... Silly really but people do like to make a point.
Whenever I can I always try to help people who work in the industry(upgrades, seats, lounge, jumpseats- when we could, quick c/in)Why - Well because we should all respect what each other does. AT NO EXPENSE to the regular passengers. I've seen Station managers kiss the ar*se of other MGRs and pilots but will do there best to stich up their own staff, Why? Completely unnecessary.
My point is that you get good and bad where-ever you go but an upgrade and a bloody mary help ease the pain!! Everyone who works in the industry likes to get a little bit of special treatment nobody can deny that, But when you dont ....... Keep your toys in the pram, - What goes around comes around!

5 years ago I used to fly EK a lot and they were the best for service UK - UAE in fact my colleagues and I unfortunately used to think that BA stood for bad attitude in comparison! However companies change.(I hope BA for the better)
ID 90 as I understand it puts you at the back of the queue to get on the plane. If its empty and you are very lucky and polite and appropiately dressed it might put you in the queue for a seat upgrade if the Cabin Crew decide they need or want to, its a little like hitchhiking really.
Different parts of the world do have different approaches to politeness! maybe you just dicovered that Dubai isnt for you and as a non muslim (I presume)you are in fact a secound class citizen, better to learn that before moving so it was worth the trip, unlike some of EK's pilots who seem to be only just discovering this .On that point I don't think they'll miss you as a potential DEC, so really everyone comes out tops.
