to be orange, or not to be orange?

Hi there,

Ive got a place on the CTC McAlpine scheme, which obviously Im over the moon about, but have been reading this thread with some alarm.

I will be 22/23 when I complete my training and want to know should I really join EZY?

Thanks

You really can't afford to be that choosy at this stage of your career. A lot of people would give their right arm to be in your shoes.

You will have enough to think about in the coming months without worrying how your future employer is going to treat you.

Congratulations on you success but don't be fooled, this is the first step on a very big ladder. For every post on this thread what you have to realise is that any jet job is a golden ticket - and even more so for someone with your experience.

Changing the subject slightly - did I not see in the recent Balpa publication that easyJet have announced their intention to adopt a five on three off roster in the near future? From the posts that I have seen it is the lifestyle which is the greatest issue at easyJet and this new roster pattern would go a long way to relieving that.

Man flex,

Thanks, that's kinda what I was thinking. Not only would I give my right arm, but also the left one and both my legs to become a pilot. (Altho, Im not sure how effective a pilot would be not being able to hold the stick and move the rudder)

Was just getting the impression from this thread that everyone should avoid EZY like the plague!

Cant' wait to start flying!

Not to fret guys, I have just got off the phone with another airline, and they have offered me direct entry as a Senior, so easyJet can take a running jump...

Mike 16,

Verily I say unto thee young man, you will require the saving hands of this same flight deck sometime soon this summer, when you start to know what Easyjet is truly about and the orange starts peeling off your face.
I envy you. You have not yet been well used liked some of us.
You are obviously very fresh and full of fool's hopes about things like staff travel improving. Where do you get your information that something is being done about it?
Well, you can always dream

I say unto thee,
Ye shall cry from the crushing weight of this job before this summer ends.
Heard of all the ambitious plans for this summer? (A lot of new routes )
Well, the good news is that it is your now fit body that will be flogged like an ass to attempt to achieve this dream and you will get no thanks for it but will of course be well rewarded financially. You will stop enjoying your foursome in the back in no time at all
Welcome on board.

IRS KEY,
Thanks

Reference your comment about the office- happy base captain, don't you just wonder how so many of the old girls can longer be found any where near an EZY aircraft ( this is catching on with flight deck also, prefering a ground job in recruitment e.t.c ) unless you wander into some of those numerous offices where you will find quite a lot of converts to the 9 -5 desk jobs. I hope easyjet will have more room for us all to convert as well. They have enough irrelevant positions to swallow us up doing office work or pretend to be doing something anyway.
We all know these planes are so advanced that your brain is not required but just your body ( fresh if you are superman but even FATIGUED will do) to occupy the seats to make it legal.
You cannot put it past these people to put a strong case to the CAA to grant them dispensation to put their mother-inlaws ( expendable) incharge of the cockpit as the only challenge in the cockpit these days is how to open the enhanced flight deck door to get out!

Wink

Any news yet on better terms & conditions?

A 5/3 roster and a standby staff travel system (like Ryanair's) would go a long way in getting enough crews for ongoing growth and retain the crews that are already in orange slavery....

VSI Bug, all bets are off regarding 5/3, a pay rise or anything else for that matter; my money says the pay review will be three months late, just like it was last year.

AH and his team are busy drinking the booze they awarded themselves for everybody else's hard work on the Clockwork Orange project! And there was me thinking flight crews played some part in improving OTP ... obviously not

Congats on getting your first jet job its a golden ticket to a very rewarding career in aviation. I really sorry you have to listen to the fools on this page that like to spread bull**** about easyjet!

The last thing you have to worry about is getting tired, at your age you will be more than able to cope with the work at easy. Sure you may not want to look at it as along term career but if you want exellent training and the opportunity of getting fantastic experience that will unlock many doors for you in the future your in the right place. Easyjets training department is gaining a very good reputation in the industry and after a few years you will have no problem moving on to something more suited for your long term needs.( a lot of guys have been taken on by majors recently)

My best advise to you at this stage is keep your head down work hard and learn as much as you can, ignor the fools on this forum because you will soon see that they are in the minority. You'll soon see that there are only about a dozen or so of this moaning half wits in esayjet!

Good luck and enjoy hope to fly with you soon!

Unable, if you are going to start calling people half wits I would start proof reading your posts more carefully!

UNABLE,

You are really proving to be unable as you are not doing EZY any good with your advice as it is very clear you do not view EZY as a long term prospect for anyone.
Your advice should therefore have been
1 ) Be super fit
2) Expect very good training when there is time and resource
3) Expect to be well compensated
4) Expect to enjoy the company of nice people you work with but about to leave before you bond properly
5)Expect to gradually start feeling worthless in no time at all
6)Expect almost unsustainable use this summer
7)Expect to feel entrapped and working on adrenalin as you now depend on the good money so can't complain much
8)Expect to be disillusioned by your choice of job as you are constantly stretched to your limit with no social life
9 )Now you can start trying your chance with a more secure outfit

GOOD LUCK!

Exclamation

Again, UNEASY seems to hitting the nail on the head.

The first couple of years, flying for the orange shed really is a pretty good job although pilot management could be improved.(They tend to jump into disciplinary procedures far too quickly).

However, after 3+ years with the company on a 6/3, I would like check back with some of the new guys and ask them then about their life (or lack there of...) and overriding feeling of tiredness.

The best advice I can give is take the job, and later (asap) move on.

The trg at EZY is very good, as is mintenance. The crews are good folks too - very professional and a good sense of humour (very well excercised).

EZY are a hateful, twisted employer who seeks to make examples of "miscreants", so Unable's advice of keeping your head down is good if you want to make Captain within EZY, but that'll take about 5 years, and I'd be suprised if you don't quit at the end of your bond.

There are some great aspects about EZY, but it's ruined by the people running it and the culture they have created.

Unable: you are simply in another world or a liar.

Well I agree with Unable !!!

The far majority of the crew I work with, realise that whilst life may not be perfect at eJ... it isn't perfect anywhere else either.

The good points about eJ, far outweigh the bad, and the moaners will never ever stop moaning, no matter what they get.

People like uneasy and IRS are what spoil life at easyJet, and they should leave and let the rest of us enjoy it.

Thanks for the support as you rightly say the moaners will always be the moaners where ever they go!

Job strategy for the 21st Century?

1. "Mentally" Quit you job

2. Do your current job as professionally and conscientiously as possible (Reason? Track Record etc)

3. Whilst in the current job look for the next one - best to move when YOU chose to rather than have it forced on you by "down-sizing", "consolidation" (= being sacked), company failure etc etc.

Strategy applies to all employers however happy you might be at the moment!
