See the E-4 is heading back to the US from Brussels, currently 50 miles south of Lands End; it's done a bit of a detour south over Northern France rather than doing the more direct route over London - would have been gutted if it had, another chance to see one squandered! It went into Frankfurt originally.

Edit: interestingly, a C-17 has followed it out and is currently heading towards the Thames Estuary!

Thanks Dave! I guess quite a lot of Thames-side Londoners between Lewisham and Richmond must have been glad of the break...

A USAF E-11A cut across the London skies this afternoon on it's way home, not too many of those on the fleet.

From a combination of ADS-B exchange and Vesselfinder Chinook ZK551 (which recently flew over me heading south) appears to have been/be operating with RFA Tidesurge (A138) about 20nm south of Bognor.

Several classic light aircraft out and about at the mo, including the Queen Bee G-BLUZ just pop-pop-popping down final into Popham... I can't remember if it's the only survivor, might be one at the Mosquito Museum?

Also another Tiger, plus a Hornet Moth and a Chippie... Be nice to lie on the grass there in the sun and listen to the delightful aeroplanes.

...and another Hornet Moth!

Israeli AF 707 just landed at Prestwick after crossing the pond from possibly Andrews AFB! Keep an eye out in case it comes this way after topping up.

See it was G-CDHW with British Caledonian in a former life!

Edit: Buchon G-AWHH heading into Biggin from Headcorn. Spitfire G-BMSB not all that far behind him; will the dastardly Hun land or get shot down?

I see the BAe146 (MET1) has been busy over the South West the last few days. I wonder if it is sniffing for Canadian smoke, or maybe, wacky baccy from Glastonbury.

A question to the panel. I 'spotted' a US Coastguard G5 flying across Scotland earlier and I've seen this one sveral times over the last 2-3 years. Would anybody know why a US Coastguard aircraft would be visiting regularly various countries thousands of miles from it's remit, namely the sea-borders of the USA ?? There are enough daily US Gov (various) flights every day if it were just transference of liaison staff etc.

Just testing, eh Dave?

Yesterday's Moths plus a Travel Air 4000 are swarming near Swaffham - is there a vintage aircraft rally in progress? Looks like they departed Fenland...

Edit: ...and have just disappeared into my sister's local airstrip at Hinderclay - I doubt she heard or saw anything as they cavorted overhead!

Would anyone know what the source of the deep drone going W to E over London at 12noon yesterday (Fri 23rd June) was ? Didn't show up on any of the trackers I possess. Might have been a discrete herc, but sounded more Antonov-y

I heard that, think it was more southerly and might have been an MC-130J out of Mildenhall. Couldn't see it... they are sometimes incognito...

I've just spotted this discussion about the E-8. The E-8C fleet has not been re-engined and the re-engining programme did not proceed beyond the one test example. The fleet is being drawn down now anyway, so the aircraft will see out their days with the original JT-3Ds (TF-33s).

Thanks for the update. It does indeed appear that 90-0175 (T-3) was the only E-8C to be re-engined, first flying with JT8Ds in December 2008. It was retired in January 2015 and pensioned off to AMARG a year later. The latest DoD MDS listing that I have (May 2014) confirms that all in-service E-8Cs have the JT3D.
