Tin hats everybody, there's a Zeppelin crossing the Channel. No need to rush though, it's only doing about 35kt, probably be at Dover in time for tea...
AN-12 earlier on, another slumber-breaker...

Two Typhoons playing with Boris Force 1 off of Newquay - only one appearing on FR24 currently TARTN19, WARLOR12 and WARLOR13.
Edit - heading back for tea by the look of it now

Meridian Ukraine Antonov 12 UR-CIC operated across London heading NW just now, at altitude but audible, as ever, from the ground. Currently seems to be operating from Rzeszow (spelling ? and pronunciation ?), Poland, near the Ukraine border. Much reduced Antonovs currently, but not gone.

Zeppelin is now abeam Faversham, perhaps in search of a pint of Spitfire. Last time it was over it set up camp at Damyn's Hall so perhaps heading there again.

It's a couple of miles northwest of the M25/A13 junction. Microlights and the Tiger Club are the main residents I think. Zeppelin is sniffing around Lakeside at the mo, looking for bargains perhaps while its mast is erected!
...looks like it was literally a flying visit - heading back towards Dover!

Thought I was seeing things there, a FlyBe DHC-8 inbound Heathrow from Leeds but it appears I've missed their reinvigoration!
They've been coming in several times a day since several weeks, the Dash8's distinctive tones a welcome sound for the ears. There was the odd Wideroe or Icelandic example here and there over the last 2 years, but nothing regular at LHR since FlyBe's demise.
Where did Herr Zeppelin end up last night ?

Thanks chaps (if indeed you identify as such), there was something strangely comforting about seeing FlyBe Dash-8s snoring overhead inbound Southampton or Exeter. Mate had to do Southampton/Hamsterdam fairly regularly and I planned to get a snap of him on digital zoom one day - stymied by the collapse. Perhaps those services will reappear in time.
Think the Zep ended up back at Calais, the flight seemed to have originated from there. Getting pretty dark by the time it was heading over the Channel (and last time I looked) but I guess night operations are OK - indeed I remember seeing Europa floating around at night in the 1980s with the advertising lights ablaze with some message or other after aerial advertising legislation was relaxed.

An unusual one, in these parts. 2402 EA33 MRTT over JSY 1226z out of OEJD westbound.

Heard a couple of strange drones this afternoon. First about 90 mins ago was a formation of three Grob Tutors (I think) heading west out of Benson.
Second, a droney sound overhead turns out to be a French Navy EMB-121 heading southeast (Ascot way) at 18000 ft.
FR24 replay shows Grob formation as DSTRY1.

G-OSRA oilspill response 727 just out of Lasham heading north. Hope it overflies me in a few minutes though I've seen it several times. Still a lovely aircraft.
Nope. It turned away, west. Shame.

I'm more used to them doing aerobatic-type manouvres with associated changes in engine noise.
The EMB was pretty high but sounded quite muted to me.

Blimey, slight throw back there, just saw N166G on ADSB approaching Biggin Hill - remember it as a P-51D which Doug Arnold had at Blackbushe over 40 years ago - recall it there in 1980 with a P-47D when a school friend's father kindly diverted on route back to school from a day out at the Greenham Common Air Tattoo. The P-51 went via Stephen Grey to La Ferte Alais and was lost in fatal crash in France in 1998. Appears to be under restoration in the US now.
The present N166G is a DA-40!

Yes, one comes out of London City occasionally, possibly the same one. Notably more noisy than anything else, although possibly the noise zealots think it's a neighbour's lawnmower. For an airport that has all sorts of controls by type on their noise, I'm surprised it got accepted.
