A USAF C-130 went N-S over London full pelt an hour or so ago, V loud, then did a sharp turn over the Channel, and limped back into Mildenhall at lower altitudes. Must have had some system failure, perhaps pressurisation.

For Info…..An Italian KC-767 has recently left Keflavik….c/s. IAM 1424. Apparently this is dragging Italian a/f F-35’s home from NATO Policing duties in Iceland. This flight normally routes down eastern side of UK towards Marham, then routes from there over the southeast counties for Seaford and beyond!. No indication yet of timings over UK, but 767 should show on tracking sites.

Saw the Red over head Frome around 4-15 ish coming from S East (Bournemouth ??) ina long graceful turn onto westerly heading -where would they have been going ? Don t know if its standard transit formation but the five ship leading group in echelon with two others below . quite noticeably so and behind. Lovely sight against a brilliant blue sky with just enough of the puffy white stuff.

Earlier on, around 2 15 (and posted on another forum) , saw a Warbird type radial really pelting along over Trowbridge heading East to west . Was it a Russki or US Radial . It was too high for more than a silhouette view and while I have heard lots of Russian pistons I have only hear one big US radial single which was a F4 Corsair and the wing planform was all wrong for that. All the other US radials I've heard in recent years were in close formation attached to a DC3 or 6 and had a much less stressed sound signature as befits airliners not fighters

Unfortunately, these routed from Marham out over the Netherlands and Germany for Italy…..Weather avoidance apparently! Support C-130 IAM4684 routed out via Worthing!

That's a rare bird in these parts. Thanks for the heads up. Sadly it did an unexplainable course change near Canterbury and that put paid to coming anywhere near myears/eyes could make contact. Oh well......

Any idea as to why it made the long trip to the UK and back ? It didn't seem to do any flying in the 2 days it was here. Just seems like a long roundtrip, especially when they have C-130's etc.

Hugely busy at Brize just now, Globemaster, Voyager, Hecules, A400m and USAF Osprey all in the circuit.

Edit: actually the Osprey may just be transiting.

Got the Bill on TV at the mo (enjoying a late breakfast after a walk...), episode from about 2000 - there is an aircraft clearly audible overflying during one scene, I'll bet it was a Rapide!

Speaking of audible, something inbound Heathrow which come over while I was walking was making the most bizarre noise around 8am this morning - big twin, maybe a A350-1000, a reverberation sort of sounded like a radial engine. After hearing it for quite a while, maybe 20-30 seconds it suddenly stopped. Flap deployment? I actually thought something else was around but pretty certain it was the airliner... just checked, probably VS92, G-VEVE.

Another Vulkan Air AN-26 droning V loudly across London from Liverpool to ? Seems especially loud and long-lasting today for some atmospheric reason. Doing a proud 177kts, so probably fighting a headwind up there ;-)

Didn't hear it at all even though I was in the garden doing things with clothes pegs; mind you there was also an SR-22 bimbling overhead around then, noisy so and so!

Ahhhh, de Havilland! Just had a lovely gentle visit from a Chipmunk, first I've seen in a long time. Think it is resident at Biggin but rarely seems to come my way.

At one point, Mode S was showing groundspeed 166 kts, TAS 228 kts - that's 62 kts of headwind component !
