Hey Guys,
Just got back from vacationing in Singapore...absolutely loved the country! My Fiance and I are interested in living there...what are the job prospects as a pilot? I'll ask even if I can guess the answer
We've got the ability to obtain permanent citizenship. Furthermore, I'm nearly finished with my (FAA) CFI, and I'll obtain my II very soon after. Yup, low time, low Multi, VERY low IFR... I've trained with a well known school, though I can promise you my tickets aren't "rubber stamped"... but my wallet is inside out. Teaching is definitely in my future but I'm looking for more than the normal grind after that.
Does the Cadet program through Singapore Air aid in JAA (or Singaporean equivalent) certification? If so, what's the average cost through said program? I've done quite a bit of research into flying throughout England and Europe on N-Reg aircraft...that obviously will only take a person so far. What's it look like for Asia?
Thanks for all the help. Apologies for the very general questions.

Woohoo! The dream is alive!
Hi Dream747 and cruisercruiser, lol!!!!!
So where did you guys end up now? I've just logged in after such a long time. Would you like to share? hehe
I'm going to volunteer some information about what I'm doing now to give hope to those that want to pursue this difficult and sanity taxing route.
After a long and arduous journey to do the Singapore CAAS CPL/frozen ATPL, and with support from many friends that I've met on this forum (and who are fellow SFC mates), I am finally going through Type Rating Conversion Course for a Singapore AOC regional airline.
This should jump start the thread lol!

truefaith,
From my knowledge, Malaysian and Singapore ATPL papers were almost the same as they came from the UK CAA ATPL syllabus.
Recently, there is again talk that the Singapore Nav Group is moving to the JAA Atpl syllabus. Not sure about M'sia.

Hi FLPilot4Hire,
I'm going to be the bearer of bad news. There is almost no chance of you doing any kind of flying here (Singapore) unless you are related to some bigshot in Singapore Airlines for you to get into the cadet program. GA is non existent here, so you can't even instruct.
Anybody else want to add anything?

SIA cargo is hiring, if you got some time on the 744 then you can move there. Its a great place to live, yes I know many who went there for flying and got their PR to live there permanently. If your wife is a well qualified working professional and has the ability to get a job quickly in Singapore then It wont be a problem for both of you to get a PR.

I've benefited much from this thread. Success stories from people I know here spurred me on in times of difficulties. So I'll contribute a bit. Well, not I'm not "successful" yet, (there is still a long way to go and lots of hard work to be put in) but at least I'm beginning to see the little light at the end of the tunnel. I'm also going through the type rating conversion course with a singapore carrier. Compared with some people I know here, I consider myself very very lucky. Also most of the self-sponsored people I know from my school have already got a "job".
With regards to the CAAS ATPL syllabus, I was told by a ground instructor that the syllabus change to JAA will be tentatively in september. But, how many times have we heard about the tentative dates?
Let's continue to keep the thread alive and useful! Back to the books...

Self Sponsored CPL Holders
Hello All,
Seems that this thread is not so active now. Is this an indication that the Self-sponsored CPL holders in Singapore are now less and less?
I am one of the Self-Sponsored CPL holder, holding an FAA CPL.
How many of us are still around in Singapore? And not doing it?
I heard that the pilot demand is good this year. Are you guys just getting in, or have many already gotten into an airline?
Cheers!

SIA is getting Indians from India to fly Singapore's national carrier [click here read post]. Oh yes, they are arranging Aussie FIs to come in too! You think you'll get a job?

Hi truefaith thanks for the headsup.
yeah i've heard all about the licensing issues and recruitment.
The fiasco at qantas is all over the news here.
With all these kind of recruitment issues facing the self sponsored pilots, i think it would be safe to say that guys like us would mostly be based overseas.

To all you self-sponsored cpl holders frm SG, Imho, i feel that it would be the best to uproot & go where the jobs are. I rather have a job flying overseas than be in sg without a job.
don't mind me asking, do you have any idea how are the t&cs in KA? i know they are the sub of CX.

Thank You
Hi All,
Just wanna say a big thank you for all who contributed effectively to this thread which was created more than 5 years ago. I believe many wannabes have come across this website, got the information they needed and did what they have to do and many should be flying now at various level. Few years ago, I was one of them.
I was one of those lucky ones who was able to get to the airline job straight after I graduated. Now that I have gotten where I am, I hope to do my part and be like most seniors, offer helpful current information to those still chasing their dream. I may not know the hardest path yet but I have come across many who do and I can seek their advice for you. For the new wannabes, I hope to present to you the reality and facts so that you can better decide for yourself on this chosen career path.
Please feel free to contact me and I will try to get back to you as soon as I can.
Pay it forward...

Hi Markzai, I'd suppose then that you are self-sponsored as well? May I ask how much u paid for in total, and under which FTO? And how probable is it to land a contract with an airline after you've gotten your CPL? Thanks!
