Somebody long should have done this like what James Tan did!

I hope to see more newspapers report on this.

So where is James Tan? Nobody at the flight school has ever heard of him. If he is using a false name, then why should we believe his story is real and honest.

Obviously he is going to use a pseudonym, especially as he still stands a chance of being employed by SQ group in the future. No point in burning bridges, is there?
Since you know so many people in SFC to know that there is nobody named James Tan, you would then also know that what the letter stated is the real situation for self sponsored pilots.

IMO, the letter was very restrained and well articulated. It did not attack any organisation and was just stating the facts as it applied to him. Kudos to him for not getting personal or vindictive in telling his side of the story. The ****-stirring came from the readers perspective of how they interpreted what he said.

1. Looks like you do not understand how newspaper's forum page works.

2. The editor is not stupid by publishing something is not real.

Why is it so quiet here?

Hi guys,

Its too quiet in here. Let me post my experience to keep the thread alive!

I started on my self sponsored CPL training with SFC in april 2009. Did ground school for the tech papers and ATPL for 6 months in seletar (I thought Engineering was tough!). After that went to perth for the real flying. Flying in perth is great fun. I especially enjoyed flying the twin engine baron. Tough but fun flying! It is a phase in my life I will never forget. The flying took me about 9.5 months. It could be faster if I had not taken my time.

I have completed my self-sponsored CPL nearly 2 months ago and am back in singapore looking for a job. From what I know the last 6 or 7 guys who were back since half a year ago haven't found flying jobs. However I also know of guys before that being taken by local operators.

Any lobangs from well meaning guys are most welcome!

Hi Cruiser,

Glad to hear from Self-Sponsored holders like you. What spur you on to embark on this journey with no guarantees? Now that you are one of those CPL Holders that are not hired by local operators what are your contingency plans? Do you plan to stay on the ground for long?

Regards,
Mark Chan

Re

Hi Mark,

"I've always wanted to fly". haha...sounds so cliche? But that is what I've always wanted to do. I worked as an engineer for 5 years before starting on the course. Whenever I look out of my office window seeing a plane take-off, I can't help but wish I'm the one in the cockpit.

My contingency is to go back to a desk bound job. As much as I would love to fly for a living, I have to be practical. I don't come from a well to do family who can feed my desire to fly. I need to feed myself, pay off my loan etc, which means I have to hold a job that will allow me to sustain myself. It will be great if I can find a flying job that can do just that, but if not I will have to think of the contingency. Well, having "just" came back from training, I can still survive for a couple of months before embarking on the contingency.

Thanks 9M! Good to hear from you again. It has been a long time. You mentioned you're still "flying" in jb. Are you still instructing in malaysia? I am open to flying in malaysia but heard recently that they are stopping singaporeans from working there. Any truth to this? If its real, this really good option is out.

2 months of not flying and I'm already missing the fun. Could you check your PM please.

Cheers!

Does anyone know if STATA students are now given CAAS CPL/MECIRs or are they still on CASA?

Hah... STATA again. STATA is a "big joke"!

I agreed with PNY and mercw123. Read the thread [Right click].

I was just curious about the developments of this whole thing - if there is any truth to STATA offering the traditional CAAS CPLMECIR. On their website they state that they are recognized by CAAS as a FTO but is it only for the MPL trial? They've been advertising on the papers very often and if at this time they are only still offering CASA it can be quite misleading.

I met some guys who finished with ST about 10 months ago. They only completed a CASA CPL/IR with Australian ATPL subjects. They still need to complete the CAAS ATPL subjects to convert their licenses, which can be done at SFC.

Why don't you call STATA and ask? Here is the hot-line: 6535 6188.

Talk to Lnn Choo (most careless lady) or Rebecca Tan (most absent minded lady).

Please share with members after you have called.

If that's the case, in order for them to convert to CAAS licence, they need to be employed by Singapore air operator.

Let say, SIA take them (STATA graduates) in, then these guys must go through the ground schools before SIA will allow them to sit for the CAAS ATPL papers. I doubt SFC will do that.

I have friends considering to train with STATA and I've called STATA before to ask about the licenses they offer. All they would tell me is that they are recognized by CAAS. They used only to issue CASA licenses until last year when CAAS recognized them as a FTO when they were working with Tiger to try out the MPL. I'm not sure if they are able to offer the CAAS CPL IR directly or through means of conversion before any employment. As far as CAAS' website goes, STATA is not on the list as stated earlier in previous posts.
