Thank you, NerAz..

Jeremytks 23rd Oct 2010 08:58

was suppose to go for an interview on 15th Oct, but i am currently in China and will not be back until December. They said to contact them when I am back. Not too sure if I still stand a chance.. O_O

NerAz 28th Oct 2010 02:27

Anyone receive any email or contract from SIA with regards to November OBS?

Jeremytks:I believe only SIA can answer that question of yours.

moccajava 28th Oct 2010 07:45

Smokers?

Hi,

As per the title, apart from the ill health effects of chugging the stuff or the higher rate of not clearing medicals, any idea if it plays a part as a selection criteria by the panel or HR?

We all know that pilots who have a bypass or heart attack may never be allowed to fly so I'm not sure if its used as an assessment.

It's a question that may stump if one is asked. To say the truth but at the possible consequence of jeopardising your chance, or to lie, but hey... who are we kidding right... it'll show up anyhow in your medicals.

Comments please, gentlemen :D

Frankenstein 28th Oct 2010 11:30

@moccajava: I think it's better to tell the truth that you are a smoker if you are one. I believe the last thing any employer wants is someone with no integrity. I don't think there is any harm in telling SIA that you smoke and i don't think the panel or the HR has grounds to reject you because of that. It all depends on the medical. It probably depends if you have some serious complications due to smoking and then would the medical reject you because of that.

Hi guys, I am new here. I got a few questions regarding the age requirement. What is the minimum age that SIA will grant a 1st interview and contract signing/go obs?

I've read through the whole thread and it seems that they are granting interviews even before 25 and sending people to obs at 25.5? Can anyone confirm?

Thanks.

1st Interview.

Hello people :) I am filled more with anxiety than excitement. Going for the 1st interview on 12 Nov. Some have told me to read up on aviation and etc but I have no idea on where I should start. Like what to read and etc.

Hope someone can advise me on this.

Dennis84 28th Oct 2010 23:33

1st Interview

Attending my 1st interview in 2 more hours...

wish me Good Luck :ok:

drareg 29th Oct 2010 03:36

@moccajava: Be honest. :)

@ Frankenstein: You are right with what you've read. There are guys who went for 1st interview before 25 years old. As for contract signing, etc.. I think the minimum age should be 25 (yet to be corrected).

@ rainmaster: Congrats on getting called up for your 1st Interview! You're right, it's very important to read up and prepare yourself. They can ask you anything under the sun from current Oil prices to the latest volcano erruption affecting aviation. Do a google on your favourite aircraft. Recognise the fleet/company history. A little bit on the technicals behind flying would help too!

There's a wealth of info in this forum and in other forums. Do a search. Hope that helps and good luck! :ok:

Cadet Pilot

hi guys i'm keith and i am 20 years old this year. my passion and ambition is to be a pilot and i am graduating in next year march. so i want to give a try to apply for cadet pilot in SIA, but i have no experience and i need help, can anyone offer me a help ? thanks a lot =]

Frankenstein 1st Nov 2010 00:10

@Keith: Are you a Singaporean? If you are, you probably have to wait till you are just 25yo before submitting an online application to SIA. Meanwhile, build up your interest and passion in a things aviation.

Cheers!

Keith chong 1st Nov 2010 13:44

@Frankenstein: Hi Mr.Frankenstein nice to meet u and appreciate for your help=] i am not a singaporean, and i am a malaysian if that be can i join sia cadet pilot training ? because i really very interested in being a pilot=]. and another thing is that i having astigmatism of 100 on right and 175 on left eye
but having a 6/6 visual acuity with optical aid. Would that be a big obstacle for me to fulfill my dream ? hlp me pls~~~~:{

Jeremytks 1st Nov 2010 15:57

@Keith: REQUIREMENTS
  • Singapore Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident or Malaysian Citizen
  • GCE ‘A’ level, Polytechnic Diploma or Degree. In addition, you must have obtained a minimum of 5 Credits in the GCE ‘O’ level or its equivalent. These must include English, Mathematics and a Science subject, preferably Physics, taken at one sitting
  • At least 1.65 m in height
  • Myopia of not more than 500 degrees and astigmatism of not more than 125 degrees, fully correctable with optical aids. Visual acuity of at least 6/60, correctable to 6/6. For candidates who have undergone corrective eye surgery (e.g. Lasik), the pre-surgical visual acuity should also meet the above requirements
  • Medically fit
Got this information from their website. Previously I remember they only recruit Malaysians at the age of 23 (not too sure if it is still the case now).

But for the eyesight, that is the maximum you can go to. Meaning if it is correctable back to 6/6, they might/might not accept you because it already exceed their top limit of 125 degrees. (please correct this if i'm wrong)

No harm applying bro..

Malaysian i doubt there's any age limit as long as you're above 18..

your astig is only minimal, send in your application and hope for the best..

to give you some confidence, my astig is 250 and 300(no myopia), and i got called for interview even after declaring it. but then, it might have been a mistake on their side too, 'cause when the cadet was going through my application before the interview, he was wondering why my astig so high yet get called up

Macarto 2nd Nov 2010 12:28

Hi there Stallone, so what is the outcome after that? Care to finish the story? :)

drareg 3rd Nov 2010 01:38

@ Stallone: Re-apply again!

@ Keith chong: Don't be lazy, do a search online. Tonnes of information there!

Cheers :ok:

Jeremytks 3rd Nov 2010 02:51

@Keith: I don't think they have a very specific CV. I sent mine in, from what my school taught me to, and they emailed me to arrange for an interview. Too bad I am currently in China and will not be back till December. They said they will reschedule an interview for me.

Soaring Ahead 3rd Nov 2010 03:10

Hey Guys,

I just received my email!

The next batch is scheduled to begin on 26Nov!

All the best to those who are waiting! :ok:

Reschedule of Interview dates

Hi there, been following this forum religiously though I did not post any thread. Since Jeremy mentioned about the reschedule, may I ask if SQ entertain any reschedules? I have submitted my application last monday and have yet to get a reply (maybe due to the fact that I will graduate only May next year?) from them. A little worried that they may call me when I am away for a trip in mid december. Thus am wondering if anyone has experiences on rescheduling of interviews to share.

That place that I am going to may not have reception, thus will they drop my application if they cannot get through to my mobile, which is my primary mode of contact?

YK

Keith chong 3rd Nov 2010 15:28

@Soaring Ahead :how long u have been wait for the email which asking u for interview? because i submitted it and forget to attached the cv and resume, the status of applying that job become rejected =[ can i resubmmit again ?

Soaring Ahead 3rd Nov 2010 21:49

@Keith : hey dude, they took 4 days to reply to me for my first intereview date, 6 days for my 2nd interview. Sorry to hear that. If it is listed as rejected, I do not think it has anything to do with the attachment of the cover letter as the system filter it with the information provided in the application form and the subsequent questionnaires which you have to complete. You might want to check back on your application and re-apply again. Well these are my thoughts and is not necessary how the system work but have a go at it again if this is what you want to do!

All the best! :ok:

Any guys headed for the 26Nov OBS?

Cheers
SA

drareg 4th Nov 2010 03:31

@ Soaring Ahead: Congrats mate! :ok:

@ crazy_spinner: The primary mode of contact for 1st interview is usually thru Email. If you can't make it for the day, just reply to their email and they will try and reschedule you for another date. But no guarantees when that will be though. Maybe explain to them properly in your email why you can't attend. Good luck! ;)

NerAz 4th Nov 2010 06:34

Soaring_ahead: Im going for the November OBS too.

Crazyspinner: I waited 1 month before they called me up for first interview so it really depends on them. As long as ur status is not shown as rejected, they will call u up anytime.

hopeful11 4th Nov 2010 07:11

Woah Soaring Ahead Congrats dude! I ll send in my application soon and hopefully i ll make it too! cheers!

Question bros

Hi Bros, congrats to those who are embarking on their obs courses.

Bros i have just one question. I am now 26,read law overseas and in training to be qualified to the bar in Singapore. However, I have read physics in o and a levels and always had the desire to fly. I know the position for cadet pilot is open and am contemplating applying for it. As i am legally trained, are my chances slim due to a non sci degree background? And are the questions during the interviews be brutally harsh due to my background. Hope you all can advise. Cheers bros.

rainmaster 7th Nov 2010 15:46

Thanx Drareg for the heads up :) There are a lot of things to memorize though :P hehehe...Still have 5 more days to the 1st interview. Will do more reading.

Soaring Ahead 7th Nov 2010 23:36

@Bravia - Mate, there are guys with a variety of professions in the cadet pilot pool so you do not have to worry on that part. No interview is easy, if it is tough then you just have to up your game and convince them of your committment to the programme/career. It is about how you perform on that day. If this is what you want to do then you should not hold yourself back just because you think that the interview will be tough. Hope that helps. All the best! :ok:
