Please do some research on your own regarding such matters, and update yourself constantly as the application process 3 years down the road may be very different from the way it is today. Regards 9V Another thing is that, do i need to go for my own medical check-up and submit together with the application form if i'm perfect eyesight..cos i read up the previous post that some of them have to produce their own medical if they went through Lasik..or jus pass all those interviews and wait for them to call up for medical check-up? Hi guys,
Is anyone else going for the interview on the 24th at Hotel Nikko? cheers |

You don't need to send in any medical tests or eye tests, just your application and relevant academic transcrip. Cheers! |
Passion,
Like what kucinghitam said, CV and cover letter are basic job application documents. Furthermore, CV and cover letter offer you the opportunity to 'market' yourself in aspects that are missing in the application form. A medical report is not required. To apply, start preparing an excellent cover letter, CV, application form and with lots of luck, subsequent instructions (eg visual acuity test) will be given when you are notified for the 1st interview. Three years is alot of time to build up your resume and aviation knowledge. Make good use of that time. Cheers. 9V |

Ianlow -> I got thru the final interview but I gotta wait for SQ to check with immigration about some stuff first before i can go for the medical. So far 5 of us out of 8 made it thru the final interview(2 confirmed did not get in, the last guy we have no news). One of the instructors from SFC at YPJT was also in our group, he got in. Think you should be receiving contract very soon lah...dun worry...
Passion-> Tea party was alrite, ours was pretty informal according to one of the cadets incharge of us...Basically stood around, chatted with the panel, had a bit of coffee and light snacks. I sent application in on 21st Jan, received email for 2nd interview only 6 weeks later, final interview was Tues and Wed this week. Actually, after asking some of my friends, our interview was pretty easy compared to others, we weren't really 'bombarded' with questions and the interviewers were pretty pleasant, although you had be sharp coz they can trick you into a corner very easily. Must be careful of how you word your answers, don't leave anything hanging...We had 5 interviewers, 1 lady from HR, 3 Captains and 1 other guy who used to be a flight engineer and pilot but he's really senior and taught some of those on the panel before. Mostly it was only the captain in the centre asking the questions. |
Hi IanLow, r u V*****t? this is T*** here...:)
RoSs|gnoL: congrats for getting thru!!!:p i also went for my medical in mid march but has not heard from SIA as yet.... jus wondering so far how many of us got thru to medical from march till now... lets have a head count and i look forward to meeting up with u guys real soon.....:ok: huh, wonder how many cadets do they take in every batch? anyone has any ideas? shalom! |

Yuan_7-> 2 guys from my batch went for medical today. I hope I'll be able to make it for the May course...I'll be meeting up with those that got thru the interviews on same day as me if you guys wana meet up as well...just PM me...

yuan_7....yup, this is v******. :)
RoSs|gnoL....for my batch, 4 of us made it thru the medical checkup (caas confirmed that all 4 of us have cleared our med.) and r currently waiting for SIA to call us. |
Passion-> Not too sure, actually the HR ppl said his case was quite lucky, think there was an oversight, but they close one eye lah..he already passed final interview, think he will serve his remaining bond then SIA will send him for medical lor...think his was just a one off case...
ianlow-> you guys wana meet up? I can get the guys from my batch, but it'll prob have to be next week coz a few wont be free. |

High cholesterol and qualifying as a cadet
Does anyone know if they do blood tests for the medical checks. What do they check for? Cholesterol or something. I know having a heart attack will ground you from being a pilot.Just to sidetrack, does having high cholesterol disqualify you from being a pilot cadet. Even if you do not have now, does having later in your career cause you to lose your licence?Thx.

Pilot must stay healthy to maintain class 1 medical. Start your workout now!;) |

First you ask about psychological problems: http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...17#post2424317 Then you ask about spinal problems: http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...06#post2434606 Now you ask about high cholesterol. 3 posts so far, all 3 asking only about medical conditions. Are you for real? |
Hi, anyone heard from SIA yet? FYI, 3 of my batch mates have received the call from SIA yesterday and the day before that. I'm still waiting for SIA to get to me. Anyone have any idea if one is rejected by SIA after the medical checkup, what is the normal process? Will SIA send the person a rejection email or call him to deliver the bad news? When will they deliver the bad news? Gd luck to all those waiting out there. :) Btw, the next cse will be on 12 May.

It's a wonder so many of you are worried about the medical. That should be of least worries as you can't really do much about your health at that point of time.
However, if your cholesterol is high, or blood sugar is high, or feel that there is anything wrong, do not apply yet. The medical can kill your application. If you fail that, SIA will not wait for you to get in shape. If you are already in the program, or advanced as a pilot, your status can be put on hold till you get back in shape like what SQ228 mentioned as it's CAAS ruling already and nothing to do with SIA's decision. My advice, get yourself checked up first. Make sure you are fit and healthy. It would be a waste to get shown the door just because of a little problem. |

For my case, I think my nerves got the better of me. I also tend to be a little conservative in my answers for fear of coming across as being arrogant. Slightly disappointed in what sense? With yourself? Or do you think 3 attempts is not generous enough on SIA's part? |

Cheers! Cook more delicious food for the upcoming cadets okay... Thanks. I'm actually there to pass on information to Big M (who is now here in SFC - so who do you think arranged for this?) to help him decide who deserves to stay when any cadet is about to be chopped. I get to observe the cadets 24/7. I record who goes out late, who brings girls back to the house, who comes in for breakfast instead of staying in etc. Do you think the weekend makan form is just for catering purposes? When you guys go off to class, me and the cleaning aunties are checking your rooms to see who is the neatest, most hardworking and keen (SIA just lurves these types). Then at lunch time when you guys return the plates, I stand and watch who are the proud ones who treat my staff with contempt. Wait till you fail something - payback time! I make sure the food sucks, to reveal who is the sort who complains the most (SIA doesn't like troublemakers). These guys are then given extra scrutiny. You think SIA doesn't know about the meals? Everyday I pass my reports to Henry via secret messages left in the pantry (why do you always seem to see him in there?). You think Mister P's report is the only one that matters? You think you chow cadets know everything? Ha! Just you wait. My cleavers are very sharp... |
whoa..got james bond in the academy too? Spooky..

Echopapa,
Hang in there and believe in it. I went for my 1st 1st interview in May 2005. They didn't pick me at that time for my 2nd. Was so disappointed. I have resubmitted my application at least 4 times since then, and have NOT gotten a single reply. I shall wait and take this time to brush up my knowledge and I trust that I will be recalled for my 1st interview again. :) Then I shall not fail. I was, too, devastated when I was not called for my 2nd. Now I am just raring to get my call-up again! Good luck to you. :ok: |

Good luck to you. :ok: One typical example, my NS mates told me ¾ of the males in his graduating uni class had applied. The other ¼ are filling in the forms. Hence, it's no wonder why it will take a longer time + tedious work for HR to really sort out between the "serious" candidates vs the "try-try" applicants. If, in the event, the HR just take academic grades as reference, which isn't the case as of what I seen... I wouldn't dare to fly SQ in future... To serious pilot wannabes tangotango and echopapa.. Hope you guys get another call-up soon!.. Cheers + Good luck! :ok: |
Thank you for your advise! That is also the reason why I'm telling myself that I will be given another chance (praying hard for divine help too).
Yes, you're right that many many MANY have applied (wasting the slots. grrr...) and so I will just have to wait and make the best out my my next try. It just sometimes worry me that SIA decided to stop taking in Diploma holders OR I did SO badly in my 1st try, they have blacklisted me or something... |

SoDesNei.... :ouch: For those guys who are trying desperately to get a first interview, let me go snoop around and see if any cadet is helping out in that department. I'm going to be in STC for the next few weeks, and I'll try to get answers to qns like how many times one can apply for the first interview and stuff like that. But don't flood my PM or this thread with questions yet. I'll come by the forum again and let you guys know. Till then, sit tight. |
Tiny Brain,
You've hit the nail on the head. These days, everyone seems to be hankering to fly as a SQ pilot... :} In my office alone, I've come across 3 other brothers who've failed in their numerous attempts in getting into SQ's Cadet programme... one even left to join the MFA to get his own training done, but even his efforts weren't successful. Even though they've all moved on to other non-aviation sector jobs, they're still dreaming of being airborne. I've applied for the programme 5 times now. First was when I was 25, before graduation. Didn't receive a reply at all. 2nd time round in Jan 05, I got an interview but was canned after the first round. With my nerves were so shot and my naviety about the whole process, I must admit I was an easy target for the interviewers! The dream then took a back-seat as I tried to forget about the disappointment. Even tried out for a trainee station manager post when SQ put ads out for it, figuring that if I couldn't fly the company's planes, I'd love to at least still be working in SQ. Failed in that too... haha... And the flying-dream refused to die away... and I've since sent 3 other applications, all of which haven't garnered a response from SQ. I'm wondering if my applications, and any future ones, are now prejudiced cos I've applied for another post within SQ? I have a friend working within Flight Ops in SQ, and he confirms that there's an unwritten rule in HR about binning applicants who've submitted, and failed in, up to 3 applications... though the "policy" isn't applied strictly, and some "repeat applicants" do slip through... then again, some in the forum liken our applications are like lottery numbers... the more we buy/ send, the higher our chances... HAHA... though I believe that it'd just piss off the HR dept even more... Hey Echopapa and Tangotango... don't give up on your dreams yet... who knows... we might just stirke the "lottery" one day... :) |
