Enshrined in ICAO. Yes in the real world. This is India. This is bizarro world.

Over 150 souls perished in Mangalore. We got a half assed farce of an accident report which glossed over the real issues and causal factors. Have any of the victims and their families actually objected and questioned this report? This accident was caused by a plethora of systemic flaws which culminated in that unfortunate unstable approach.

Expats repeatedly say that only a smoking hole will wake these guys up. Guess what, we have had our smoking hole and nothing has changed. These people are self serving heartless autocrats who exist primarily to line their pockets. I again say what I said before. There is no transparency and accountability.

We will have more of these accidents, unfortunately, and still nothing will change. I can guarantee you one thing, outside looking in, none of these influential kids are gonna upset the apple cart and jeopardise their chance of employment. No one wants a rabble rouser even if the rousing is for the collective good. It's murky out here, trust me.

If this sounds defeatist, well, it is. The system is subversive and undermines any improvement, both from within and out. It's crazy alright. If you guys are truly amazed by what ails us then how is it that the FAA auditors didn't really tighten the screws on these guys? It is quite obvious we do not have the intestinal fortitude to shake up the system, well what was the FAA doing? If it is that obvious to the rest of the world then here was a chance to send the DGCA a loud and clear message.

Office bound.

Paper infatuated and and overwhelming respect and fear of exposure to bright lights and anyone further up the greasy pole than themselves.

Inertia and corruption. An entire government department without a licenced, current pilot on full time staff? What a field day for cartoonists! India's DGCA - the corrupt penguins.

A legal framework from 1937 - how about sending an airliner picture from that year to every polly and paper in India.

An exam system with no syllabus - letter writing campaign surely plus the law.

Writ's, legal challenges, personal naming in law suits result in sheer, abject terror. The rice bowl may be snatched from them.

As do social networking sites devoted to each department and their capricious, timewasting, corrupt nonsense copied in to every newspaper and politician. Get off your arses - it's not as if 4 or 5 thousand of you have anything better to do?

Rob

PS I trust it hasn't escaped the notice of the jingoistic, foreigners out, India can sort itself out just fine brigade that the post above ended with: "Anyway, why couldn't America (FAA) come and sort it out on our behalf." Sort it out yourselfs guys and regain some honour for Indian aviation.

Towers

Well said indeed.

av8r76

It is that fear you are exhibiting, that is keeping their snouts in the trough. The Indian people have proved in the last day or so, that they are sick to death of corruption and been willing to do something about it. Good, now strike while the iron is still hot and clean up that cesspit that is called the DGCA, for the Indian pilots sake.

I look at the DGCA as an authority, as I would a pedophile loose in a children's playground. With total disgust.

Only time will tell whether Mr Hazare actually achieves anything tangible. The powers that be didn't get there if they don't know how to hold onto it. That's another issue.
I myself have nothing but contempt and disdain for DGCA.

You have completely misread my post concerning expats. I don't care if they are here or how long they stay. On the contrary, they bring a fresh and different perspective on how to fly and how a real airline should be run. The experience they bring to India is invaluable and prevents the inbreeding of rote learning and memorisation of manuals with no idea of practical application of knowledge skills and experience.

Bottomline is we need help. And it has to come from outside with real expertise and experience. We would fix our own mess if we could, but it's obvious we can't. Is that jingoistic enough for ya?

Lots of people around the world discovering they can recently.

Let's see DGCA: less than 300 employees admitted to and how many unemployed pilots who can write - 10, maybe even 15 times that.

I'm pretty sure the unrest in the ME has a foreign hand behind the curtain directing the action. I certainly don't want to take anything away from the Jasminers. I watch with amazement everyday what they are achieving in hitherto submissive and oppressed regimes. Good on them.

I guess there is hope for us as well.

@punkstar - i suppose you didnt read the ads that came out for pilot recruitment for Blue Dart. They were looking for 9 First Officers for their B757 positions....

Start reading newspapers.

I got into DHL-BDA. Both are the same company with all the employees working with DHL attire which I saw at Bangalore airport cargo ops.

All the Blue Dart pilots will be trained at British airways flight training and we are phasing out the 737-200s for the 767 in this year so hiring will be on later onwards. So do watch out for that to come.

Company pays for your type initially and then you pay it out over a 5 years and you get an opportunity to go on to work for DHL Europe based on a JAA license if you wish to continue on.

cheers

So finally they are phasing out the 737-200, I still remember doing a ferry flight on VT-BDG some 10 years ago when I was still at alliance, real jet flying. That great bird is over 30 years old now. Any idea when the 767s are coming? I heard its a great company to work, stable and trouble free.

@pulk

Good for you young fellow !

From my knowledge of Indian aviation and inputs that I get from some of my friends, BlueDart Aviation is one of the best companies to work for !

Their pay is really good I hear and they do not ask for money upfront unlike the other frauds. In the present scenario, you could not have asked for a better start to your career than this. (Im assuming this is your first airline job)

Hi Friends,

I owe my success to all my friends infact Cyril Roy who showed me the Ad. If not for him, I would have never come across.

Friends at the right time told me to apply and I did. I owe my success to all of you on pprune who gave me a lot to think and study even for the Indigo exams, and it all paid of.

I want to be able to help you all and I will.
