Intersting (un)developments for the cadetship
I too am getting more dismayed by the dimming hope of getting into the flightdeck. More applicants, cost-cutting, spiralling fuel prices, etc.
I did consider paying for the CPL, but its really a huge gamble. I've worked for the past 2-3 years after graduation and probably have enough to pay for half of the CPL. But without a reasonable offer of a flying job, I would be a an arse to plant all my savings into a CPL. Flying schools are as desperate for money as we are for the golden cadetship.

True though, getting your own CPL/MEIR at M'sia will be more "affordable", but i guess it'll still incur around S$100k, personal expenses not included.
No part time, full times courses spanning 18months, it's a huge gamble to take. N at the end of it, if u can't get a gd paying flying job, it's really a smack in the face.
At the end of the day, u really gotta ask urself how strong is your passion in this field, it is worth all that trouble

Yes definitely sia cadets will come from non aviation backgrounds. What seems impossible is that 80% of cadets eventually leave the profession to pursue other jobs. If you tell me flight attendants end up this way, I'd believe you. But pilots giving up after spending so much time and money on training? Unlikely it seems

if sia announces publicly that it has excess first officers and below, i dont think they will be opening up their cadet programme anytime soon.. it just doesnt make sense if they are asking their qualified pilots to take no paid leave while hiring new inexperienced pilots to fill the rosters.. their roster seems overloaded..
even though they need to fill for the pilot positions in the future, i dont think they are in any rush to do it. it has happened before.
if i were an investor, and they say that they have too much manpower, and yet are hiring new ones, i would just be ?!?!?!?!?!?!?
just my 2 cents.. of course i hope that im wrong.. so if ur like me, graduating in a months time or two, best to look for a job or look for alternatives. you only turn 26 once..

from what i understand, SFC has cadets all year round.
Think the question on everyone's mind is however, when will SQ open up its ab initio recruitment again.
Flying.Monkeyz bro, any light to shed on that matter?
