I wanted to be a pilot because a friend took me flying in America, and although I felt sick by the time we got back to Rio Linda, I thought, "Hey, that's something I could enjoy doing". What a fun...

Hey kids

Another one bites the dust.

After 8 years of trying, it's now game over for me. I am now officially too old for any of the other sponsorships and this was my last shot. Goes to show...

Good call

AJ - That's a good call which sums it up correctly. The key here has to be that rare thing called 'a good likelihood of getting a job', something rather scarce in other self funded routes.

Good...

Slow down!

Gary

I have three things to say:

1) Slow down
2) Slow down
3) Slow down

The quick answer

Shop around the banks. HSBC are certainly making a packet out of all the wannabes.

You should stand a better chance than many given your track record and demonstrated commitment.

What do you want to do?

Hi Becki

Obvious question... what do you want to do? It's a small industry, but the variety is huge.

I'm assuming you want a flying job?

If you're young, what about fast jets in the RAF? ...

I remember the days when I was reluctant - or it just didn't occur to me - to ask my instructor these sorts of questions. But remember that IS what they are there for.

Modular definitely

My personal opinion is as follows:

If you're under 26, apply like mad to the sponsorships/ bonds, or better still join the RAF. Don't pay out any money for self-sponsorship until you've exhausted...

Interviews

When someone asks you as an ab initio why you want to fly for an airline rather than just for pleasure - and let's face it, there is a great deal of pleasure to be had from aeros, racing, bumbling...

Another lamb to the slaughter

Hi Davieboy

My goodness are you in for a shock.

Typical thread

Hello everyone

This is a typical thread for the Wannabes section. Rambling, incoherent and filled with intrigue, anxiety and contradiction. I'm now going to add to it.

Tirty tree?

Hi

Since when was the CTC age limit 33??? I thought it was 26. Or are you talking about 'self-funded' training rather than the 'sponsored' bond option?

If it is 33, then that raises three...

London Girl

I'd advise you to stay in your job and go modular. You can have the best of both worlds then, rather than a mountain of debt and no job.

Best of luck!

Best of luck whatever you decide.
