My airline has now banned the circling approach….heavy jet international ULH.
HOWEVER…whilst the ban was in place an important management type deemed the approach in question in HND NOT a circling...

Certainly would be unable to transmit on a radio to let out a mayday, let alone tune...

Below 1000’ RA if the reported RVR drops below minima you can continue the approach.

Quickest way to approximate required rate of climb is gradient times ground speed.
ie just say V2+5 is 160 kts IAS, 2.4% gradient is 384 fpm required rate of climb.

Can't remember whether it was my S/O or F/O training, but first sims were done in the Ansett sim in Melbourne. We arrived a little early one night and the sim was still configured in the Ansett mode....
