how could u have 500fpm as the criteria for a stable app?
A normal glidepath of 3 deg would give you approx 700fpm if u ur speed is around 150kts wouldnt it?

I have (flying a 738 NG) started to use LNAV instead of LOC during NP-LOC approaches since it is much more stable. The autopilot don't have to chase the localiser all the time.

You just always have to put the level off alt in the crz-page as new crz-alt. I found the fmc really hard to manage in descend at the beginning, but when u realize how it works it's quite easy.
