My semi-educated guess would be that ATC will clear the meatbomber to climb and descend out of the way of lanes of traffic in the area, likely over the bay depending on which rwy is in use at YMML...

I did work experience with QF and JAL in 2002, was mostly office based but did get to chat to pilots, learn about the cadetship and went out airside a few times and got in the cockpit with the guys...

Qantas at least I know will ask for a pre-requisite report from you before they employ you which records all passes and failures from PPL onwards. Dont stress though, just prepare well for the exam...
